About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Perhaps Rob is an aspiring ballerina.
"Did you get hurt?"
"No, because he didn't have a gun with him, we were in California..."
Pathetic - the only threat Rob can visualize is his Texan buddy's gun.
This truly sounds like a mental illness of some kind.
A worse symptom of this mental deficiency is that Rob will never be happy by himself choosing to not carry a gun, but only when every other person is banned from doing so as well.
And the worst symptom is that Rob has absolutely no awareness of the concept of "law-abiding" - as in the only people who will actually be banned from carrying guns...
When all else fails...."George Bush"
Idiot!
Perhaps Rob is an aspiring ballerina.
Exactly. No place in the tights to conceal a real weapon.
Dear, dear Rob. His only terms of reference is that he knew a Texan that has a gun. He didn't see the gun mind you but he heard about it and visualized exactly what he wanted to. Having lived and worked in Texas for seven years, I can honestly say that an armed society is a polite society. There, you don't have to wait 20 minutes for police to respond either.
As far as California goes, they are getting tougher with gun control as it it is run by Jerry Brown and the Demo-rats. As far as I know there has been no decrease in criminals... I mean undocumented felons, committing crimes. I'll also bet that Rob never went outside his San Fran hotel after dark either. Hell, even in the daylight there are some panhandlers by Fisherman's Wharf that would have no second thoughts knifing you if they didn't like you.
I love when some weenie tries to tell me what my values are. "Self defence isn't a Canadian value..." he whines. It's so typical of a leftist to immediately discount the opinions of anyone he disagrees with. Good for that Andrew pushing back on the callers pathetic worldview.
You will all have to excuse Rob as he is another Canadian that has received his Liberal Lobotomy Operation, thus turning him into another LIV.
Big bad Texas doesn't actually deserve it's gun-totin reputation. According to the Crime Prevention Research Centre, Texas is way down the list with only 3.65% of the adult population holding cc permits. In contrast: South Dakota 12%; Indiana 11%; Alabama 10%.
Self defense is a UNIVERSAL value. It is your duty to defend yourself. People seem to forget that society gave up their right to defend themself on the condition that the state would. If the state doesn't, it falls down on its duty and the agreement with society has been breached.
Hey Rob, perhaps you should become informed instead of parroting the Liberal loser line. Check out Bill Whittle as he exposes the truth about gun-loving American vs the rest of the world.
Darn how those pesky facts get in the way of the Libtard agenda.
http://therightscoop.com/bill-whittle-exposes-the-truth-about-gun-loving-america-vs-the-rest-of-the-world/#ixzz3Pf02vGAT
...society gave up their right to defend themself on the condition that the state would.
Regarding guns in Canada, it's more like the right to defend was eroded by successive paranoid governments under the guise of "gun control" that was in fact "citizen control".
Correspondingly, fools like the caller are apparently more afraid of their law abiding neighbors than they are of the actual bad guys.
Glasnost,
Come to AZ where no permit is required!
It would blow Rob's small mind.
Armed self-defence is a Canadian value and part of our Common-Law heritage and derived from our Right to Life.
Violating the Right to self-defense is a recent government project of the last four Prime Ministers, including the current one.
The Right still exists in the Criminal Code. If people applied for C.C.W. permits, were then denied and were later the victimized by violent criminals. Then the police who denied the permit would be seen as aiding and abetting the criminal attacks.
The high rate of home invasions, growing organized crime and armed robberies is a result of criminals viewing Canadian gun control as what it is. The Protection of Violent Criminals Act, their version of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
In the U.S., 70 percent of the homicides occur in 3 percent of the municipal districts. Prof. John Lott found that simply by doing a count and comparison.
That 3 percent of municipal districts are in areas of very restrictive gun control.
e.i the L.A. gangs aren't upset by the lack of CCW permit holders in California.
For the 97 percent of the U.S. the resultant homicide rate is lower than Canada's over all homicide rate! 1.62 per 100,000 vs. 1.8/100,000 for Canada for the recent year I used for comparison.
Doing math is way too hard for the MSM's Ken and Barbie types.
The U.S. concealed carry permit system spread from state to state and lower rates of confrontational violent crime followed.
The only reason Canadians are not aware of this is that our MSM lie and deceive.
Those lies have served to support government disarmament policies for 25 years, including, police raids like the ones in High River.
Electing the current government has not reversed that.
Interestingly, the MSM who support civilian disarmament are the same ones too cowardly to publish the cartoons of Mo.
The same Canadian government has ordered the Cdn. Armed Forces to hide from Islamist jihadis, to not show their uniforms in public, rather than to issue them side-arms for their own protection.
Submission to criminal and terrorist violence is a government policy, not a Canadian one.
"We stand on guard for thee." is still a Canadian value.
I'm thinking you probably won't have Rob as a tourist.
I enjoy travelling in the US, and for some reason I've never felt in any way threatened by the thought that ordinary people are carrying.
"Why is self defense not a Canadian value?"
Because that would be inconvenient for the people who view us as sheep to be sheared, not free men worthy of respect.
In truth these people who speak of "Canadian Values" as something special and unique to Canadians are a bunch of moral perverts who view lying and theft as convenient methods for manipulating their neighbors. Their list of Canadian Values is long on government programs like Medicare and short on things like "keep your word" and "don't steal".
Such people are scum and should be reminded of it at every opportunity.
What about the case of self-defence in New Brunswick. A senior citizen shoots one of three teenage home invaders, they're armed with a tire iron, and not only gets charged, the idiot police seize his guns and announce the fact, so he is now publicly outed as defenceless!
Rob simply is a know nothing. He knows nothing about his own country, except his own bubble. He knows nothing about the US except his anecdotal experience which feeds a giant presumption of American life and betrays a not so veiled anti americanism.
Guys like Rob have convinced themselves they are urbane and knowledgeable when in fact they are ignorant to the plain fact that they protected by "people with guns." Whether it is the police in his neighborhood or the Armed Forces fighting bad guys overseas, they create a peaceful place for him whinge about whatever suits him.
Just applied for a PAL. Never owned a firearm in my 60+ yrs. but now have a desire to do so.
Welcome to the club, beefaholic.
Good for you Beefaholic.
It's embarrassing that Lil'Rob shares my first name and my citizenship. He deeply reminds me of soft & hard-core lefties I've met across Canada who openly hate America and Americans. Though they always seem to betray their values when it's cold in Canada and they choose to go down south.
I've been to Texas several times and live in San Francisco now. Lil'Rob has cherry-picked simplistic stereotypes, good little Socialist that he is! :-(
Rob says he speaks for Canadians. I really don't want pajama boy speaking for me.
Rob is a little misinformed about his own country. Canadians are only less gun-loving when compared to our neighbours to the south -- but so is everyone in the world when compared to America. But according to Wikipedia, Canada actually ranks 12th in the world in terms of number of privately-owned guns per capita. We have more guns than 3/4s of the world, including most of Europe (except for Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, and France).
We're a nation settled by explorers. The vast majority of our land area is uninhabited wilderness. In parts of Canada, the nearest law enforcement is not minutes away, not hours away, but days away. But supposedly we have no use for guns?
Canada is bigger than downtown Toronto.
self-defense http://waltherpragerandphilosophy1.blogspot.ro/2013/02/self-defense.html
Rob accuses the host of using his emotions to draw a conclusion. Yet Rob's own conclusion is drawn from one simple emotion - hatred of the conservative side of the U.S. He looks up no facts, and thinks of no scenario other than "I don't want to agree that anything about the U.S. might be okay." We have seen the same reaction to the idea of an elected Senate. People do not look at the idea on its own merits or flaws, but jump to "Oh, you would want us to have American style politics." As in the legal right to defend your property, the perceived origin of an idea is irrelevant - evaluate the idea on its own. If your gut instinct to any new idea is to reject it solely on the basis of what the Americans do, or whether it is perceived by your latte friends as Progressive or Conservative, your actions are just as controlled by the others (the US in this case) as if you slavishly followed everything they did.
One last point - the image of the "Peace-loving Canadian value" can only survive if the facts of history are never learned. Visit Vimy Ridge, or Dieppe, where the Canadians got farther than ANY other forces. This "peace-keeping" phrase BS needs to be scrapped. Prior to Pearson, we never did any of that, and we have an amazing military, capable of keeping the peace BECAUSE they are capable of doing some very, very efficient and violent acts. Sort of like defending your home.
The main thing I noted about this "Rob" person was his repeated declarations of "that's not what I want".....
AS IF WE CARE.......

"Why is self-defense not a Canadian value?"
Well it is - it is such a fundamental Canadian value it is encoded as one of the first sections of our federal criminal statutes CCC secs. 35-37. this reflects the civil right to use all reasonable force in self defense.
However for multiple generations social engineers erecting the authoritarian state, have bred justifiable violence (self preservation) out of Canadians with guilt indoctrinating, media conditioning, police propaganda and aggressive malicious prosecution of clear-cut self defense cases.
The Prog state needs Eloi. Eloi are unarmed submissive cattle with with the self-preservation reflex bred out of them. Citizens, in contrast, are armed and legally empowered to defend their life against criminal attack. In the Authoritarian-Prog-Eloi state the criminal attacks generally come from the power structure so it is a matter of continuity of state that victims of the power structure be passive-submissive and unarmed
Anyone who tells you, you have no right to access the tools of survival (weapons of self defense) are telling you that you have no right to survive - any state which upholds this perverse ideal in law is saying your life has no value to it . React/prepare accordingly.
The really annoying thing about Little Rob there is if he found himself in a tight spot he'd grab the first available gun in a New York minute. He's such a liar, he believes his own hype. A boy of zero self-knowledge, preening his ignorance. Needs a father to fill him in on the facts of life.
Sadly his father is likely as big a self-deluded wanker as Little Rob. Plenty of that going around in Hogtown.
I think from his lisp, I can deduce Rob's interest in San Fransicko.
Sadly, Rob would crawl up into the cattlecar, still spouting utopian ideals.
Hey don't you know he won the argument automatically by being able to bring the specter of George Bush in to scare people......Well, his kind of people anyways.
I noticed a simularity between this Rob person and the Gruberoid in that their voices seem to belong to an immature person ,both in the tone and the wording of what they said...Neither seem to be aware of consequences and talk like they were in some university coffee shop after a really spirited Sociology class(focusing ,of course,on the evils of Western Imperialism) and seem to think that with just a bit more "discussion" the plebs should see the light and follow it . I myself don't have a Gregory Peck manly type voice but I hope to god it never comes out as a nasally whine like this guy.He seems to have metrosexual tattooed all over his forehead.
The caller Rob is wrong on several levels.
Self-defense is a human right. Period. Those who don't agree with it are subhuman.
Supporting the right to self-defense is not an appeal to emotion, it's based on reason. The gun controllers are the ones appealing to emotion.
It's false that the United States is the only place where guns are carried around routinely. In many developing nations, people have guns handy much of the time. It's only in the civilized nations of Europe and its offshoots that people don't feel the need for self-protection all the time, because individual rights are respected by most.
The host did a fair job putting forth his own viewpoint but I think he was a bit too quick to fly off the handle when calmly ripping his caller to shreds would have been preferable.
Rob took his cue from the former Solicitor General, Allan Rock when he said that "Canadians do not have the right to defend their lives with guns". Dear Allan is now the President of the University of Ottawa where mass producing more mindless "Robs" is likely his goal.
Gun control advocates are fascist busybodies who think that adult citizens should out-source their responsibilities to the state, robbing citizens of the means of acting on the most basic of human instincts for survival and natural rights. The term, Canadian value is as hollow and potentially negative as "the public good". Every horror ever perpetrated on mankind has been justified on that basis.
Assholes like Rob need to be asked by what right they deny the rights, motives or legitimacy of law abiding people to pack heat. The act of voting for a fascist like Allan Rock does not make one omniscient. It only makes one a coward who hides behind statist thugs rather than confront fellow citizens as equals.
I am a self defence nut. when younger I did not concern myself with a necessity to defend myself, I knew I could. as an old man and much slower, I do arm myself in a manner that could harm someone else and legally absolve me of any problems were I to be attacked. if a break in occured at my home, and I was awake or woke up I would not have to worry about a long drawn out court case and the criminal getting off. we should always be able to defend ourselves.
I found the police taking DNA of approx. 500 men in windsor ( fishing for a suspect in a murder) to be a much more interesting/scary topic.... But that's just me..... A couple of times we have been to festivals and the police have a booth that wants you to fingerprint your children, premise being: you know because children are always being stolen and unidentifiable bodies litter every corner of the land. Right...
*
in the 1980's i was one of about a dozen ontarians who had a new york state ccw. we applied for the permits because we were shooting combat pistol matches (now sissifyingly known as practical pistol) all over new york state excepting new york city. the ccw, rather than making things easier at the border, seemed to spook the customs guys, who were always suspicious of firearms owners.
i was fingerprinted and the 10 card was submitted to the fbi... and the firearms registrar in toronto had to supply a letter to the ny authorities stating that i had a valid canadian fac. i was also a qualified ipsc black badge shooter which pushed the application along.
carrying a loaded pistol is a huge responsibility. i was aware of it at all times. if you are in a threatening situation and pull a pistol and then are unwilling to follow through, there is a real chance you will lose the pistol and have it used against you. if you shoot, you may take a human life. i don't even hunt deer.
i was only once in a situation where i thought i would have to pull. i will not talk about it here suffice to say it was not at all like tv or the movies. afterwards, i was so full of adrenalin, i could have thrown up.
in canada... despite all the laws... we live by an honour system. anyone you see at the mall could be carrying under his/her coat. the fact that virtually no legal firearms owners are ever arrested speaks to the calibre of canadian gun owners who unerringly respect the law.
as things get more tense, especially in urban areas, that may change.

Steyn was then asked about guns and the Second Amendment.
He said that free people have the right of self defense, when something goes wrong, the state isn’t there for you, what do you do? Call 1-800-We’ll Be There in a Couple of Hours?
Reisman said that she feels safe, and feels comfortable with police being relied upon for law and order, for them to have guns.
"Law and order? The poor fellows in Paris had a police officer present and outside, when the guys with the AK 47 came there was nobody there from them."
He noted that the Sargent at Arms in Ottawa, all ceremonial and in knickerbockers and with the mace, ("it’s Tuesday, I got the mace, Thursday, I cover up the mace"), in a split second he knew to ditch it and it turned real, and he got his pistol out of the drawer and he put a bullet in that killer, we don’t know who he might have taken out."
"The people at Charlie Hedbo didn’t have a pistol in the drawer"
Furthermore:
“Jews are beaten up on the Metro in Paris, cartoonists are killed, a Swedish artist's home is firebombed, a Norwegian restaurant has Molotov cocktails fired at his business, my friend in Copenhagen opened door his front door and was shot, but the guy missed, and the Danish government let him leave the country and the Turks would not extradite him.”
"People have the right to defend themselves; in a crisis the police are not on site."
Quit bringing facts into the story! According to Rob...everyone in the US carries a gun because someone who told him he has a gun said everyone else had a gun too. And because of George Bush. That's why there was no massacre at Columbine....oh wait!
".......I was awake or woke up I would not have to worry about a long drawn out court case and the criminal getting off....."
Fool.......the cops will arrest you after shooting yer dog.....This post of yours will be used as evidence of premeditation.....
There is NO PC WAY TO SUCCESSFULLY DEFEND YOURSELF....SELF DEFENCE IS A DE FACTO CRIMINAL OFFENCE...in practice
Here's one of those "single instances" Rob dismisses:
http://youtu.be/nPeMNiXni7I
Fortunately for that young lady and her boyfriend, she had a father who cared enough about her to get her a gun and teach her how to use it. She was also fortunate to live in a place that respects the fundamental, natural right to protect oneself against violent aggressors.
Gun ownership and self-defense advocacy are enjoying unprecedented popularity in the USA. Thank you, liberals. Your ceaseless hostility to the right of self-defense has so strengthened the pro-gun argument that gun control is politically radioactive.
Now, if we could just get the Left to speak as candidly about the rest of their odious ideology....
Rob's biggest problem is the blind spot on self defence.
He like his idol Leisuresuit Larry, can't seem to concieve of a point in time where they would deem it necessary to defend themselves. In their world view, its just not conceivable that anyone would dislike them, and its all based on their idea of Canadians (liberals) being the epitome of politeness. ...well unless you happen to be conservative or American...so of course in their mind they are loved by all and will go to great lengths to maintain that pov.
They have to be loved and admired by all, and if not, or something happens to challenge this mindset, the only reasonable excuse is one of the various isms in their lexicon.
Opposition to redefining the traditional family- you must be homophobic.
Opposition to universal daycare - you must be part of the 1%.
Opposition to the theory of AGW - you must be a climate denier
Opposition to gun laws - you must be one of those gun nuts.
Rob like Leisuresuit Larry, if asked, will never understand that at some point in time resistance to a threat will require men with guns to go into harms way, that they cannot understand this they will never be able to tell you when do you use force to fight those that would do harm?
