And "public art" is the saliva test;
After a sun-singed jacket, some software glitches and more than a year with blue construction fence around a beautification project, city officials have removed a $559,000 art sculpture from in front of a northeast Calgary recreation centre, unsure it can be fixed.
From the comments: "Paint it black".

While the sculpture and the interaction with visitors is interesting, I am still of the opinion that taxpayers should not be footing the bill for "art". How about having it and other work donated by corporate sponsors or philanthropists?
I am pretty sure that the artist didn't plan to have it also become a solar cooker either.
As a Calgarian, I'd far rather they took the one percent of money for construction projects spent on "art" and spent it on proper traffic control around those construction projects.
Paint it black.
Good points. If it's public money being spent on art, then the public should get a chance to vote on the options, and not have 'artistic' decisions by some elitist committee comprised of bored wives of rich politicians.
I agree wholeheartedly,TC!
Too many of our tax dollars in Vancouver were wasted on what looks like mangled piles of scrap metal. If political hacks love "art" so much, let'em find sponsors,or pay for it themselves.
Idiots, wastrels, mutter...mutter.
Maybe they can re-gift it to Jordan Mangosan.
I'm sure that there was a HUGE public demand for this masterpiece!
I blame Global Warming!
I think they should move it and hang it inside the blue ring. This large shiny bauble would look just super framed by that other $500 grand piece of, um, art. (If you're unfamiliar with Calgary's blue ring, Google will quickly find it for you.)
The two pieces alone cost us more than a million bucks.
Thank you, art committee!
Anything that relates to the word "wellness" deserves to be destroyed. It replaced a much nicer word called "healthy" which worked just fine.
With any luck, painting it black will cause it to melt.
And it doesn't even generate electricity?
shiny ball(s)
big blue ring
two "designer" pedestrian bridges
rusty "memorial" on 10th st
steel "wings" on 8th ave
fishes on glenmore
people under water at riverwalk
legacy "art" from public $....
I know Art.
He is a friend of mine.
You forgot the paintings adorning the sewage treatment plant.
From neshis co k ring to Farrell's shiney twat. Calgary is nearly an extra million in the glue even at 1%
Duh Farrell was elected with about 3000 votes. Not 3000 extra, 3000 total
