The Thrill Remains

Postmedia News reporter Stephen Maher, most famous for having giddy-upped his cherished robocalls pony until the springs broke before he could arrive at Grand Central Conspiracy Station, returns to form as he inexplicably resurrects the unverifiable, stale-dated statements of a washed-up former dominatrix:

"If this law passes I'm going to make you guys forget about Mike Duffy, because I've got more information and more proof on politicians in this country than you can shake a stick at, I promise," she said, smacking the table with her riding crop.

Umm, yes, "she said" that three weeks ago, when it wasn't necessarily news, but at least was, you know, new.

So why is Maher now re-writing and presenting as news pretty much the exact same story that was published by other reporters, including in the Globe and Mail, three weeks ago?

Bedford and her supporters have been busy since her committee appearance....She suggests that her plan would keep the issue in the public eye.

You don't say.

"Nothing attracts media attention as much as politics combined with scandals of this kind."

Ride 'em, cowboy. I'm sure this one will pan out.

I've been shopping photo's of Mac Harb and a '73 Electrolux for over a year to Toronto media outlets without any takers... based on my experience this story will quickly die.

I predict that nothing will come of this, but if these ladies push their luck we may see a few dead hookers turning up in dumpsters around Ottawa.

The only politician I am sure of involved in this seamy business was ol' rub and tug Layton.

I still can't understand how McKay thinks he can make it illegal for Johns to communicate with a prostitute. That is again denying the prostitute the right to pursue a legal occupation. Did McKay actually read the Supreme Court judgement? Maybe he is listening to government lawyers who have screwed up every case they have presented to the Supreme Court. I suspect the civil service lawyers have done so in a deliberate attempt to embarrass the government repeatedly.

Stephen Harper - you have to make prostitution illegal before you can legislate criminal law concerning it, at least that's what the Supreme Court says. Why do you want another law to be punted by the Court?

Isn't it a fundamental freedom for two responsible adults to enter into a contract?

"Isn't it a fundamental freedom for two responsible adults to enter into a contract?"

You mean like conspiracy to commit murder? No.

Absolutely right, Scar. He can't. And based on the considerations you've mentioned here, this law will be thrown out as unconstitutional even quicker than the old statute. The government's tactics on this issue have been so utterly stupid as to defy belief.

Except murder's illegal. Prostitution isn't, and wasn't even before this latest legal go 'round.

Isn't it kind of hypocritical to threaten to "out" people who engage your legal and moral professional services, regardless of how they would vote on it? It seems like even Bedford is acknowledging that prostitution isn't a good thing and that it would be bad that people knew which politicians had engaged in purchasing those services.

Trying to fluff this story for all it's worth, but it won't be a happy ending if the only "name" on the list turns out to be Jack Layton.

According the bio for Stephen Maher: "He majored in international development studies at the University of King's College after the journalism school there rejected his application in 1984."

As dire as the journalism program at King's can be, in 1984 they had the good sense to keep him out (though he might be even worse now had he completed the program).

As for his other education, he would have majored in international development studies at *Dalhousie* University, and perhaps slept at King's, which does not have an IDS program.

I saw Peter McKay on TV a while back, state that his new law intended to "end prostitution" once and for all.

A person that naive shouldn't be in politics. When reform amalgamated with the Conservatives, Mckay was one of those reform should have kept out of the Cabinet,if not the new Party.

That's the biggest problem with the new CPC, too damned many progressives conservatives, not enough Reformers left.

three types of prostitutes, street walkers, call girls and house wives. Now which one are they trying to eliminate????

Maybe these politicians should do some governing instead of dicking around

So I thought the case that got all this started, that specifically Bedford was one of the applicants to the SCOC was due to security concerns of the whor... er professionals in the trade and consequently the court determined they had a constitutional argument and the court said, unless the law could be made to protect the who... er professionals of the trade, it would be consider null and void. So to satisfy the court the government tabled the new law that added protections to the wh... er professionals from being victimized by criminalizing those that would victimize them. Because, if you go after the johns, the pros know their victimizers are being targeted.
Now that Bedford is demonstrated that this was a political agenda instead of a social one, she does more damage than good to her cause.

Are you really that stupid?

".....stale-dated statements of a washed-up former dominatrix:...."

Did I miss something? I didn't notice Kaddy O'Malley mentioned once..

are you a failed abortion or just completely lacking in empathy? You seem to be advocating the murder of women
