The writer seems to think we should bargain with ISIL. Not likely. All negotiations will prove is that beheading Westerners for propaganda work.

About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Not surprising as the Rideau Institute is a collection of leftists that collectively suffers from acute Harper Derangement Syndrome.
Here is a link to its web site showing its directors and senior advisers.
http://www.rideauinstitute.ca/directors-and-senior-advisors/
So, how many Neville Chamberlains do we need to spout drivel before we pound the $#!+ out of these terrorists?
What exactly do they suggest we negotiate with?
And where do they get the brain fart ISOL's would bargain in good faith?
These nitwits who so glibly and quickly call for "negotiations" with terrorist organizations rarely, if ever, volunteer the opening position for the "negotiations" never mind the end result they're seeking. Seriously, will we allow them to behead, rape, and forcibly convert half the population in exchange for (what exactly)????
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Perhaps Burke should have added, "or negotiate ad nauseum"
What exactly do we negotiate with terrorists, what's up to barter? Do we sit back and tell them we will not interfere with their cruelty to their fellow man if they will promise not to attack us? That seems to be the plan Trudeau and Mulcair favour, how that would end is not something they've figured out but for certain they're sadly lacking in empathy for the people who are being attacked, beheaded and other unspeakable cruelties.
If this had been our tact during the two world wars we wouldn't be enjoying the wonderful country and it's freedoms we have today.
Sorry fellas, when innocent people are attacked by mad monsters, we fight back, we come to their aid, that's what we've always done and this one calls for fast action to ensure not one more victim is slaughtered by these butchers.
An ambassador to the un for disarmament. Appointed by Joe Clark.
2 strikes.
Churchill said "Talk talk is always better than war war" and it is. However, that being said, walk softly and carry a big stick. You don't negotiate with a bully. You take him down.
well, I happen to disagree with all you folks, I say knee-go-tea-ate with troubled mooselimbs, send Justine, mad Thomas, the Lizzard, and most of the rest of the lefty pols, but for god's sake use an old DC-3 to deliver them. You know what they say, waste not want not.
Thanks for that link, Brian. I was unaware just who these clowns are - and now I wonder why anybody pays any attention to them. Ah, but then I remember all the left-wing sychophants in the press...
Perhaps if someone could come up with an example where Arabs negotiated anything to a successful conclusion. They seem to still be fighting 1400 year old wars.
Peggy Mason is Canada’s former UN Ambassador for Disarmament and advisor to then External Affairs Minister Joe Clark
Says it all really.
Yes it does have an ideology - Islam. And it foes have goals: World Domination
Muslims only negotiate with infidels when they are weak. And when they become strong, it's convert, submit or die.
No, it's the same war for them. They want to dominate the planet; all infidels, Hindus, Christians, Jews, Bhuddists, Atheists etc. are to convert, submit or die.
Same old story.
BTW Kate, can you change the "submit" button to send?
the third strike is they opened their mouth and once again proved they are an idiot!
I just noticed the category this is filed under "insufferable twits" I love it!!!
Never pay attention to the views of any Canadian whose first name is "Ambassador" or "Justice".
Canada’s secret war in Iraq
On March 25, 2003, during the “shock and awe” bombardment of Iraq, then US Ambassador to Canada Paul Cellucci admitted that “… ironically, Canadian naval vessels, aircraft and personnel… will supply more support to this war in Iraq indirectly… than most of those 46 countries that are fully supporting our efforts there.”
Cellucci merely scratched the surface of Canada’s initial “support” for the Iraq War, but he had let the cat out of the bag. As then Secretary of State Colin Powell had explained a week earlier, “We now have a coalition of the willing… who have publicly said they could be included in such a listing…. And there are 15 other nations, who, for one reason or another, do not wish to be publicly named but will be supporting the coalition.”
Canada was, and still is, the leading member of this secret group, which we could perhaps call CW-HUSH, the “Coalition of the Willing to Help but Unwilling to be Seen Helping.” The plan worked. Most Canadians still proudly believe that their government refused to join the Iraq War. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here are some of the ways in which we joined the fray:

Churchill in a speech broadcast in 1940 after Dunkirk
"We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender,...."
The 'To jaw-jaw is always better than war-war" is an attribution, i.e. someone else said that Churchill said that, it is not in any written, taped or filmed record. I find it hard to believe that he did as his use of the language is grammatically perfect. Compare the quote you cite with the one I added which by the way is only half of the complete sentence and you should conclude that they weren't spoken by the same person.
P.S. winstonchurchill.org has transcripts of most of his speeches
Yes it does, along with being with the Rideau Institute.
Then there's this bit:
"Islamic State may be brutally ruthless, but they know exactly what they are doing. Their core is made up of seasoned, motivated fighters and an extremely experienced leadership..."
All the more reason they need to be stepped on, hard, before they grow any more, doncha think, Peggy-dear?
Exactly. She is much more progressive than conservative. She has Joe Clark's leftist mindset. Liberal in disguise.
Robert of Ottawa, well said every time.
cgh, exactly, and the longer we wait the harder the fight will be. Just as WWII was.
"...when innocent people are attacked by mad monsters, we fight back, we come to their aid,..."
Very much so. Even when those "innocent people" being victimised are so far away and so different and strange to us. Because when it seems so mad and so monstrous to us, we should realise that is because the mad monsters think and/or feel very differently from us about life and all else we hold dear, and we should be properly afraid that they will come after us too, eventually. Especially when they keep saying they will. It's in their holy book, in the Hamas charter and various other treatises that keep coming out. People thought Hitler was all bluff and bluster and he didn't really mean all the terrible things he said in Mein Kampf because if they did take him at his word they would have to face doing some hard, expensive and unpleasant things about it and keep it up for a very long time to deal with it. And it turned out he did indeed mean quite what he said and more that was worse.
Stephen Harper doesn't want to go to war and neither do I, an old soldier. But if you are smart, there is one thing you want even more than not going to war, and that is war not coming to you.
"What exactly do they suggest we negotiate with?'
~Joseph
"What exactly do we negotiate with terrorists, what's up to barter?"
~Liz J
Well they're offering to cut all our heads off and our governments have, up until now, offered and given them so many carrots that the only way we could give them more carrots is to literally carpet bomb them with fecking carrots.
"walk softly and carry a big stick. You don't negotiate with a bully. You take him down.
~Olde Spice
There it is. And going down with such a boom that it's an object lesson to not only those of the same ilk, the very action becomes a children's cautionary tale, the kind hinted at in bedtime stories to scare the nightlings away. The stuff of legends and future peace.
Mulcair actually believes his Elite holier then thou BS With Justin changing sides and uttering his usual drivel. He will oppose as to do otherwise loses votes in Que. BOTH ARE ASKING HARPER TO MAKE STATEMENTS that are impossible to know. He has been open far beyond what is prudent. How long will We stay?
The terrorist love such statements , they know our resolve. He has answered the Question why very plainly. How long will it take?? ANS. until we have finished the job. That could be months or years, but if we don't stay who wins? The days of conventional warfare is over. You don't win by taking over a geographical area. Justin even stated what we are doing is probably not enough !Will We go into Syria , the ans. better be Yes if thats where they are going to rearm and rest up and resupply. The Arab states are the ones care for refugees.
"Peggy Mason is Canada’s former UN Ambassador for Disarmament and advisor to then External Affairs Minister Joe Clark. She is now the President of the Rideau Institute on International Affairs."
Enough said.
The worst part of all this parliamentary high-minded noise and melodrama is that we are committing what, exactly? A six-pack or something of CF-18s?
The way Mulcair and Trudeau are carrying on, you'd think some sort of Canadian Expeditionary Army Group was heading over and Harper had a bill for conscription tucked up his sleeve.
Children.
Trudeau is juvenile, and Mulcair is desperate to shore up his position; both are fundamentally unserious on this issue. The question is: will Canadians turn out to vote for adult leadership in the next election? I wish I could be more confident.
