It's great to hear a bit of historic, non-partisan Canadian news that lets us momentarily put aside our bickering. Why, even in the HOC the reaction was….

A Prime Minister to be proud of. Just think if Obama gave the presser it would have been me and I and all the credit goes to me, well think hard voters if the little great haired Dud was ever voted into power you would have Obama lite, twice as stupid and far more narrcissistic.

We are fortunate to have a leader like Harper, when so many so-called 'leaders' are nothing more than incompetent, power-hungry narcissists like MrZero the aspiring golf pro.

Hmmm, I suppose it stills belong to Her Majesties government, I guess the question is, is Canada the legal inheritor or do the rights reside in with England.

I'm basing the question on the fact that the Bismarck is still the property of Germany despite being a sunk. Retrieving artifacts from it would be theft if there were no permission.

The Canadian government has an agreement with the UK concerning the ships. Any bodies are to be left in the sea. The Canadian government gets any artifacts except gold or currency which is to be split.

I think the government should pass a law and declare it a special historic site with big jail time and seizure of vessels and equipment for anyone even attempting to locate it or the HMS Terror. Also recovery and preservation of the ship might be nice but the free lunch whiners in Nunavut would probably want the museum there which would make no economic sense. It would make a nice centre piece for a maritime museum.

Yeah I can recall when salvage rights meant finders keepers.

Then governments got greedy.

But the government found it. Greedy?

Scar, they already have stupid laws that do that.
But they should offer an cash reward for whoever finds the Arctic Terror.
Why waste tax dollars?
Let private enterprise enjoy the "warming" Arctic, instead of bleeding the public purse.
That said, I fully support these expeditions on the public dime, mapping the Arctic sea floor, identifying resources and actually having a naval presence in the area.
A Federal responsibility long ignored.
If we want sovereignty over the North, how about No Tax in The Arctic? A sure way to expand the business population of these welfare territories.
