All things considered, ridding the world of the Knights Templar may have been premature, yes?

About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

When's the last time the Swiss Guard lost a battle? A thousand years ago? More?
when was the last time the swiss guard had a battle...there, fixed that for you.
well we do know that the mooselimbs hate gays..........
"when was the last time the swiss guard had a battle...there, fixed that for you."
......during the sacking of Rome on May 6, 1527, when the Pope's Swiss guards held off troops loyal to the Habsburgs long enough for Pope Clement to escape......
There, answered that fer ya....
Get back under yer bridge.
When Jacques de Molay, the final Grand Master of the Templars, was being burnt,
he called out from the flames that both Pope Clement and King Philip would soon
meet him before God. They did, within a year.
Calling the Knights of Malta, the Knights Templar and the Knights of NATO.
The Popemobile, which Pope Francis prefers not to use, was due to an assassination attempt, nearly successful, made on Pope John by a Muslim from Turkey. The attack occurred in St. Peter's square in 1981.
The Caliph of the Islamic State has according to tradition, the authority to declare aggressive war. The pious Muslims are obligated to respond.
The other jihadi groups only "defensive" war, which is pretty loosely defined mind you.
NATO nations have plenty of warning. Raising their military budgets to 2 percent of government expenditures, as per NATO standards, would indicate they understand the problem.
Turkey is proving to be an unreliable NATO member at this point. Would a greater Kurdistan be a more reliable one?
The Clash of Civilizations is well underway, and has been for some time.
"The Clash of Civilizations is well underway, and has been for some time."
"The clash we are witnessing around the world is not a clash of religions, or a clash of civilizations. It is a clash between two opposites, between two eras. It is a clash between a mentality that belongs to the Middle Ages and another mentality that belongs to the 21st century. It is a clash between civilization and backwardness, between the civilized and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship. It is a clash between human rights, on the one hand, and the violation of these rights, on other hand. It is a clash between those who treat women like beasts, and those who treat them like human beings. What we see today is not a clash of civilizations. Civilizations do not clash, but compete."

I wonder if the Kaaba would melt . other than the meteorite , which already has .
msybe the Saudis ought to take on ISIS before this gets out of hand.
Gotta agree with rich fisher, there can only be a clash if you have two civilizations.
These Jihadists act like bandits and fools.
I get a chuckle out of those who argue we are too civilized to combat this kind of evil.
Civilization is skin deep when your life is on the line. The destruction games these idiots are playing are easy, we too can excel at this kind of activities.
Mostly we choose not to.
Violence is the last refuge of the truly incompetent.
Look at these "pious moslems" in their own words and actions…
One hell of an opportunity here, we can send our progressive Liberals off to negotiate with these geniuses, then we can use the return ticket to import a hard working, properly vetted Christian/heathen refugee.
Cleaning the gene pools of two regions simultaneously.
After 487 years, the Swiss Guard may be a bit rusty. The Pope should hire the best ex-SAS security company in the business, no orders necessary.
I'm glad the Pope's security detail are taking this seriously, because as we all know, the bastards can ambush anyone who appears in a public place.

As a large crowd closed around the scaffold, the last Master of the Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem, 70-year-old Jacques de Molay, stood alongside three of his brothers in arms, listening as the papal legate read their crimes in horrible detail. But mercy would yet be theirs if they repeated to the people of Paris the guilt they had confessed before the inquisition. Five stakes piled high with brushwood and faggots awaited them if they did not.
Two of the knights, eyes cast downward, mumbled their guilt. Then de Molay and Geoffrey de Charney of Normandy stepped forward.
"On this terrible day," shouted de Molay, his gaze meeting the eyes of the crowd, "in my final hour, I shall let truth triumph and declare, before heaven and all the saints, that I have committed the greatest of all crimes." The crowd pressed in.
"But my crime is this: that I confessed to malicious charges made against an order that is innocent so that I could escape further torture. I shall not confirm a first lie with a second. I renounce life willingly. I have no use for days of sorrow earned only by lies."
The King’s police seized the two knights and chained them to the stakes. Brush and branches were set aflame. As the old men were roasted alive, they shouted their innocence and their love for Jesus Christ before falling silent. Thus the last Master of the Knights of the Temple of Jerusalem was reduced to ashes.
Knights Templar win heresy reprieve after 700 years
http://www.reuters.com/article/2007/10/12/us-vatican-templars-idUSL093422320071012
Philip was heavily indebted to the Templars, who had helped him finance his wars, and getting rid of them was a convenient way of cancelling his debts, some historians say.
The Templars went into decline after Muslims re-conquered the Holy Land at the end of the 13th century and were accused of heresy by King Philip IV of France, their foremost persecutor. Their alleged offences included denying Christ and secretly worshipping idols.
The most titillating part of the documents is the so-called Chinon Parchment, which contains phrases in which Pope Clement V absolves the Templars of charges of heresy, which had been the backbone of King Philip's attempts to eliminate them.
Politics as usual...
Another Chinon parchment has long been known to historians,[14][15][16] having been published by Étienne Baluze in 1693[17] and by Pierre Dupuy in 1751.[18] This other parchment is dated August 20, 1308, also at Chinon; it was written by cardinals Bérenger Fredol (cardinal priest of Saints Nereus and Achileus), Etienne de Suisy (cardinal priest of Saint Cyriac in Thermis), and Landolfo Brancaccio (deacon of Sant'Angelo in Pescheria). Addressed to Philip IV of France, the parchment states that absolution had been granted to all those Templars who had confessed to heresy, and that the writers had "restored them to the Sacraments and to the unity of the Church".

The Vatican relies on two organizations for security.
The Swiss Guard is responsible for the security of the Pope.
The Corpo della Gendarmeria dello Stato della Città del Vaticano is a gendarmerie charged with policing and security of the Vatican State and properties.
Both of these are capable of being equipped as the situation demands. Do not be fooled by the traditional uniforms of the Swiss Guard; like the ceremonial guards at Buckingham Palace, they are all trained soldiers (Swiss Army service is a pre-requisite) and have a serious "alter ego" beyond the appearance they project for the tourists in St Peter's Square.
Behind these is the unstated additional support of the Carabinieri and other Italian crisis response capabilities.
I'd join in a minute, except for that pesky chastity thing.
You must be one of those Augustinian types...

1527? so they've got battle experience. gotcha. rolls eyes.
troll indeed.
This will be the last Pope that we see as the modern form of the job. The Islamic jihad wants to nuke Rome, as much as Tel Aviv
The Holy Father seems intent on getting close to the people, and balks at the security that modern Popes have used. Francis has some odd ideas, but this is the oddest. He can't do what he wants to do, if he is dead! I think it time for him to start listening to his security experts. This really isn't his area of expertise, but he owes it to his followers to take their advice seriously - the Pope, many believe, may be inspired on all religious pronouncements (In persona Christi) and many believe that "Roma locuta, causa finite est" but when you're dead, you're no longer Pope.
Richfisher @ 3:19, well said. Although, even here, as we saw in New Orleans after Katrina hit, civilization's veneer is thin.
The last time a Turk tried anything against a pope he was tackled by a nun.
Sisters of the Sacred Order of the Shaolin Temple is what the pope needs.
Pope Francis should not give these emotionally retarded thugs the satisfaction of a near-attempt on his life.
