Paul Martin, anti-keynesian.

Economists are still trying to explain Canada's economic success of the 90's. The old Liberal fiscal policies prove that doing the opposite of Keynesian economics is successful. I'd add that I think Mike Harris and Ralph Klein had a bit to do about that time period, too.

This kind of thing won't go over well with the new progressive Liberal party of today.

Hmmmmmm.

Back in the 90's, I seem to remember some old, arrogant screwfaced fwench politicians mumbling something about '...da pwoof is dah pwoof of da pwoof...' as he presided over a nation where a buck Canukistani could buy you 65 cents American.

The so-called 'Brain Drain' was a torrent; our medical people were going south across the border the second they got out of med schools, and the Search and Rescue guys were making their wives into widows with the help of the Sea King. If memory serves, our syphilitic cretin of a prime minister bought a couple executive jets to help alleviate the problem and gave himself a 42% raise. That's what the 90's looked like to somebody that didn't smoke pot with Kinsella and the cool kids I guess.

Today, America is run by a commie chimp and they have the economy to show for it. He blames Bush for all the problems as he peels out for the golf course. When Obutthole Care kicks in - we'll probably get all our doctors back and then have to mine the southern border to keep all the destitute Americans and their pet Mexicans out.

Screw it. I am going back to the fifties when it was still legal to call 'em as ya see 'em...

a crowd by CBC standards is 100

""Who's the best economic manager?" began Martin, who was then interrupted when someone in the crowd answered, "Stephen Harper!"

"Paul Martin is an embicile when it comes to managing money. He steals from the EI fund, then declares a 'balanced budget' when in fact he did not have a balance budget.

The economy was booming and he was unable to control the purse strings without stealing for every unemployer worker in this country that was denied coverage in those years."

Speaking of balancing budgets...Ontario Liberals plan to balance their extreme, record breaking debt ridden mess...in their dreams and the nightmare for those of us who live under the wreckage.

And I'm old enough to remember "A dollar is a dollar is a dollar"...
Same guy...pretty sure.

Sponsorship Scandal - you mean that Paul Martin?

The multimillionaire Liberal Prime Minister who registered his Shipping Company (Canada Steamship Lines) in the Dominican Republic - but then - transferred the registry to Liberia when the Federal government cracked down on offshore corporate tax avoidance in the Dominican Republic.

A slut is a slut is a slut - Don't think gender should be brought into the picture. We let an effete M.P. assist a woman in self-murder, and many thought it was the moral thing to do. The same jerk stole a ring and NDPer Adrian Dix said that he was a very "moral man". Seems to me that someone who steals, does so because he is a thief. But of course the moral malaise has always been difficult for pro-aborts and similar ilk!

Actually Vanuatu

Ralph and Mike, yes. Also the U.S. economy boomed through most of the 1990s and falling interest rates helped government budgets to balance.

Some of us can remember why it worked so "successfully".
But one item is always ignored. The most feeble and
tentative initiatives by Wilson in deficit reduction always
provoked hysterical media party outrage against Mulroney&Co.
When Chretien took power there were onerous tax increases,
upped pension contributions, offloading on the provinces, plus
billions in unfair and wasteful contract cancellations.
The media party ignored all of it.

Awesome post Glenfilthie! You nailed it!

I will never as long as I live forget that sorry lying crooked low-class pig of a bastard Chretien saying there was no brain drain when even a fool could have seen there was. Every last colleague that I had at university in engineering, as well as myself, left for much greener pastures in the US! It was only many many years later after Harper had finally started to clean up the sorry mess left behind by the Liberals that I returned. Not *one* of my colleagues, all very smart people, have to this day returned.

But no no no, that piece of rotting filthy sewer scum Chretien said there was no brain drain.

God help us all if we ever go back to those dark days of Liberal rule.

Thanks for you post Glenfilthie.

Canada, no matter what you do, you have the good ol' librul marxist saturated USA right next door to make you look good. Unless Canada really screws up, businesses will always have a good reason to do business there, because every time a business succeeds in the USA, the politicians and 47 percenters try to shut them down. If a business is not completely PC in the gospels according to libruls, they must be destroyed. They go after your guns, your children, your lively hood, your speech, and then tax you into bankruptcy. Why would any sane business person want to do business in these circumstances. Maybe that A-Hole OK troll can explain it all to us.

Paul Martin had the help of the GST

Paul Martin the economic reformer veered hard left when he became PM. The neo Grits will wax nostalgic about Martin's sensible work as Finance Minister while ignoring its lessons and enacting their own redistributionist "Justin Society" egalitarian BS.

Won't work. Canadians didn't cooperate with the progressives, they worked hard and generated economic growth during the Harper era and he won't let them forget.

Will Canadians take a chance with and Obamaesque hope and change approach, or will the stick with what's worked. If history is any teacher, they'll likely go with the incumbent.

Then again JT may say more really dumb things and the progressive will fail, once again, to get their act together by driving a wedge between rural and metropolitan Canada to achieve victory.

..."Will Canadians take a chance with and Obamaesque hope and change approach, or will the stick with what's worked.? If history is any teacher, they'll likely go with the incumbent..."

Let ua all hope that the latter is the end result. If not expect Stage 2 Jihad in this country sooner than later, s quiet squashing of the Oil Sands thru regualory means and a large increase in persoanl taxes for the "rich" That would be those of us earning more than 75k annually.

As for economics: The elephant(s) in the room are the Public Service Unions...they always have been..

..You cannot continue to give Public Serviants, whether they be: Municipal, Provincial or Federal, Continuous annual raises of 3% + more sick days.." Mike Harris, Ralph understood that...the crowd today may understand it, but have zero cojoness to tackle it. But as Thantcher said: Socialism is great until you run out of other poeples money. Remember Greece, Spain and the soon to be other countries in the EU where they inmplode from socialist insanity - we are on our way there as well.
