About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

Maybe I don't remember this correctly, but didn't Obama say ''if ebola ever reaches these shores, you can call me Mohammed''?
I'm sure the proximity to the southern border is strictly coincidental.
I can't tell you how good it makes me feel that the very hospital that my elderly parents go to has the distinction of being the location of the first confirmed case of Ebola in the USA.
Go Dallas!
From the article: "the unnamed patient had been in the West Africa area where the Ebola virus exists". He's flown from Liberia.
Yes, coincidental.
Yet again, Tom Clancy seems really, really effing prescient.
I am surprised that
A) it took this long and
B) suicide terrorists did not try (yet) to get infected and bring ebola to North America...
I'd bet a herd of goats that this was seriously discussed in terrorized circles. Could still happen.
Imagine you are in a position of power. You are at a crossroad called EBOLA.
You have two routes to choose from......
1st route- Do everything imaginable to prevent this disease from arriving at your door.
2nd route- Open your doors and allow it and all other diseases to flow through the door, then distribute it evenly among every geographical region of your country.
What would (did) Obama do?
The patient was probably a missionary or with a charitable NGO. No good deed goes unpunished.
With all the money that the U.S. gov spends, I'm really surprised that the CDC doesn't maintain a high-tech quarantine facility on one of the Aleutian islands for just this kind of a situation. We don't want to just let U.S. citizens die of a horrible disease in a foreign country, but we don't want to endanger the rest of the population either. Meh, I guess an isolated quarantine facility makes too much sense.

It's probably been discussed. But it's such a devastating disease, it's unlikely they'd infect themselves to do it.
This continent was Ebola free - until the infection was welcomed here by executive fiat - If one American dies of this there is only one way to point a finger - jail terms, or better yet exposure to the virus, should await the government scum who did not seal the border to travel to the countries where this virus is active.
I am surprised it showed up here first. I would have bet on Europe, since the air routes all go through Europe.
My apologies for the OT comment, this was the question today at Sunnews, "Do you think law enforcement officials should stop using the term 'Islamic terrorism'?"
Can someone link me to an occasion when they have ever used that phrase to describe an act of violence?
an isolated quarantine facility makes too much sense.
Yeah, I was thinking the same. It's obvious that it's not important to control Ebola or any other virulent diseases that Mr.Zero the aspiring golf-pro has let loose on America with his overreaching incompetence. But then he's from Kenya, which is part of Africa, and nobody does incompetence better than African blacks, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised. "Hope-and-Change" couldn't happen to a more deserving group of idiots.
Probably brought here by some do-gooder who went to Africa for their quixotic crusade to drag that place out of the Stone Age.
I guess the greenies are getting impatient on downsizing this planet in order to save it. Trying the disease angle to get what they want. Mitigating CO2 by wrecking national economies just isn't fast enough for them, I guess.
Funny, Don! But as someone who has been watching this issue
for the past decade, my initial observation was that we have
nothing to worry about because the history of Ebola was that
every year it would strike, kill about a hundred people and
go dormant.
When the shit started to hit the fan in Northern Africa, I
was still not worried and referred to it as a breakout and
not an outbreak. Now, I am not so sure! I then began to
say that America is one Nigerian cab driver away from a
full blown Pandemic.
I cannot be the only one who noticed the victim came from
Africa and appeared landed in a hospital just North of our
porous Southern border. It is now officially time to start
to worry!
I'm surprised really, that vast herds of goats aren't being decimated by this terrible plague, ya know, by the methods of transmission and all...
Americans have a nature to be complacent to a point then panic bigtime.
How would they react if this had occurred in HongKouver? Would they close the border?
Has this spooked Mexico?
Yep,I agree,it IS time to worry.
This person may be just the first of many who comes here from the infected areas of Africa. Eventually, one person who doesn't show symptoms will be let in among the population.
Let's hope the first place he visits is Hollywood, then we will see if the stars are immune to ebola as they are to the economic havoc they would wreak on us peasants with the global warming,anti-fracking,anti-oil sands BS they peddle.
If this should lead to a North American pandemic,I can think of many political leaders that should swing from lamp posts or develop sudden lead poisoning.
Have no fear. Homeland Security is on the job...
As much as I love my Northern brothers, should this case
have occurred in Bozeman Montana, I would be calling for the
government to seal the Northern border!
Since this occurred on our porous Southern border, it is a MAJOR
concern for both America and Canada. Even North of 60 should be
concerned with a disease with a 50-90% mortality rate.
The world just got a shit-load smaller and damn site more dangerous!
Could this be the latest "Weapon of Mass Distraction"?
You can fly DFW to YVR for as low as $469.
Is it too soon to talk about suspending flights to Canada from Africa? And Texas?
> When the shit started to hit the fan in Northern Africa
West Africa
> one Nigerian cab driver
Nigeria (and Senegal) have Ebola under control. Demonstrating that even minimally advanced countries can manage this.
> America is one Nigerian cab driver away from a full blown Pandemic.
The definition of "pandemic" is an epidemic that has spread across a very large area - multiple continents or worldwide. (I.e., not just "America".)
> a hospital just North of our porous Southern border
You don't understand Texas geography very well. It's well over 600 km from Dallas to Laredo.
> in Bozeman Montana
Did you pick Bozeman because it's about as far as in Montana as you can be from Canada?
> I would be calling for the government to seal the Northern border!
I'm sure you would. Because Ebola is rampant in Canada. (If they did, I hope you'd enjoy the ensuing depression.)
> Since this occurred on our porous Southern border
So now Dallas is ON the Mexican border.
> a disease with a 50-90% mortality rate.
The mortality rate in the US us (so far) zero.
Please, try to keep at least some tenuous contact with facts. This is cause for concern, not panic.
Ebola isn't the real concern.
Rare respiratory virus, paralysis spreads among US kids. It is not possible for over 40 states to be experiencing EV-68 all at once until you factor in the one new factor - Obama's transporting illegals to all 50 states this summer. Quite apparent he wanted to leave no state untouched. This is what happens when the President of the country lets in 60,000 kids from Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, etc., etc.,without conducting a single background or medical check.
The current Ebola outbreak is just another vastly over-hyped virus story by the media, and that includes Drudge.
About 1,500 deaths so far in Africa. That's it!
If it's not global warming it's Ebola. I'm tired of the scaremongers.
I have been teaching my kids basic statistics from a young age so that they don't fall for this nonsense.
Is this just another way of meeting your 72 virgins.......................?
The way to stop Ebola from spreading is to quarentine the affected areas. That means anyone who has the urge to travel there will spend a month in quarentine before being allowed to get on a plane. Better yet, have them take a month long sea voyage rather than flying and, if Ebola starts to spread on the ship, nuke it.
I have no concerns that a cure for the various hemorrhagic fevers will be found fairly quickly once there's a reason to throw some of the best virologic and immunologic minds at the problem, but what does concern me is that this may be a totalitarians wet dream as the possibilities of curtailing civil liberties because of the Ebola crisis are just too tempting to let pass.
Quarentine works and we've had over 100 years of experience in applying this simple public health measure. Instead of making large areas of Africa no-go zones, instead people are being allowed to travel to various parts of the world unimpeded. This is probably just what the totalitarians want as when Ebola starts spreading in multiple parts of the world, suddenly they have the excuse they need to put in harsh police state measures all in the name of "public health".
As noted by John Galt, EV68 is now around and had a likely case of it in hospital a couple of weeks ago. Of course, given the speed of virologic testing available to us today, I probably won't know if the patient (who has now completely recovered) had the virus until a couple of months from now (that's if they've put a rush on the serology).
Given that the Kenyan idiot who is currently TOTUS sees no need to increase border security in the south Eboloa may just be one of the numerous third world plagues that come to the USSA.
Ebola is being over hyped to distract people from the diseases spreading across Amerika as a result of MrZero's immigration policies.

@BC
According to the CDC these are Ebola numbers:
As of September 23, 2014
(Updated September 29, 2014)
Total Case Count: 6574
Total Deaths: 3091
Laboratory Confirmed Cases: 3626
http://www.cdc.gov/vhf/ebola/outbreaks/2014-west-africa/index.html
As Mayor Larry Vaughn of the movie "Jaws" might say: "It's all psychological. You yell illegal alien, everybody says, "Huh? What?" You yell ebola, we've got a panic on our hands on the Fourth of July."
If fruit bat animals are carrier of this virus then spray bbats with gasolin then burn thoose. animaals ,,used doctor chart who sawThose patinet scan to computer. Give data to reseearcher to get similarity of. What they eat or touch can be mosquito be Carrier too. Use vikine spray. Fumugation by help of pest control or clean africa use pine solee chemicals and burn dead and hot steam clean hot air or use. Freeezer containr to kill virus
And in 2010 nearly 1.2 million people in the US died of either heart disease or cancer.
Yet 3000 Africans die from Ebola in a few tinpot countries and it's a world crisis that demands front page headlines for weeks.
Check out this resourceful gal over in Africa:
http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/25/health/ebola-fatu-family/index.html?hpt=hp_c4
...but of course it's all about creating fear, paranoia and distractions.
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken
SARS from China and that Middle East one MERS. Celebrate diversity.
Obamba needs to be charged with the murder of each American that dies as he spreads the plague.
#1. Crimes Against Humanity.
#2. Treason
#3. War crimes against the American people
and on.......................
The one "silver lining" to all this (if you can call it that)...is that large metropolises tend to be a den of left-leaning denizens...with the largest concentrations on either end of the social ladder. Perhaps an outbreak of incurable ebola hitting all our large cities, like Toronto, Vancouver, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec will be a blessing in disguise. Having grown up in Windsor, ON I can imagine if Detroit gets hit and 75% to 90% of the population dies off...it may become habitable for people who are more inclined to be law-abiding and tax-paying....just saying. But I'm going to make a call that Obama will use the domestic Ebola outbreak to hang on to power past 2016--"for the duration of the emergency"--an "emergency" that will never end. Never let a crisis go to waste.
BC...Butt Communist????
just because the govt uses it to scare you doesn't mean you shouldn't be scared of it. This shit, ebola, has been around for a while, try reading news on a regular basis, and a "cure" has not been developed yet???? And then there is the possibility of it transforming, which may have already happened. Yup, they over state things, but then with Obumbles at the helm they may just be understating things.
"NEVER LET A CRISIS GO TO WAIST"
Oh, and I don't think its a Joo this time!!!!
In discussion with sister in law, the nurse, of the afflicted people being brought back to the US, she insisted that it was right thing to do.
Your agent suggestion was that it would be better to treat the people and build a whole new hospital on the spot, was rejected as mean.
OK.
The suggestion is that it would help everybody involved and keep the contagion from spreading, help the Africans with new hospital and associated training. This would cost less than treatment of one person in a US hospital.
No.
Ok maybe it would cost just slightly more, just a little bit.
Understand that this would be prejudiced, nasty, mean, unkind, harsh, hostile, chauvinistic, racist and an endless lot of synonyms.
It may be better that the infection was imported.
You got to be inclusive.
Matt Iglecias has learned his lesson.
Wait for the big brother’s instructions.
No freelancing with ideas here.
He must be thinking that he lives in free country or something. Sheesh.
anyone who has been in western Africa in the last 2 months must be barred from entry into Canada!
Abut 8 years ago a West African female arrived in Hamilton Ont. with serious flu like symptoms. She had flown directly from Africa to Europe and on to Canada. She was placed in isolation pending further tests. Almost immediately the the usual suspects in the community
organized a rally claiming it was racist to have done what the medical community did.
After several days it was shown that she did not have Ebola but another kind of illness not
indigenous to Canada. The protests did not stop until she was released from hospital.
If this is any indication of what will happen when Ebola arrives here, get ready for a fight
because these "Anti-Racists" are relentless.
..... and in that time Pharaoh Barry said unto his inner circle of evil:
"God alone created a few plagues in ancient Egypt, but I, your greatest
ever leader, have created them all across America. How do you like them
apples? It's time for me to go tee off. See ya later."
denis >
"anyone who has been in western Africa in the last 2 months must be barred from entry into Canada!"
Absolutly!
It's the only humanitarian thing we could do so that we don't need to use Napalm and flamethrowers.
Oh I know the Liberal Left would love that!
We're better than that, screw the Left close the borders and save some Africans!
The one "silver lining" to all this (if you can call it that)...is that large metropolises tend to be a den of left-leaning denizens...with the largest concentrations on either end of the social ladder.
Yes, a "silver lining" and an ironically just comeuppance. Cities are mostly populated by 'takers' and the hinterlands are mostly populated by 'makers'. A few plagues running rampant through cities would be a good 'societal enema'. It would cause economic chaos for a while, but those of us in the hinterlands would do OK. There's very little that I use that comes from any big city.
Hey, when both Vox and Matty are telling you not to panic...
