I detect an air of desperation in the watermelon crowd as, despite of 17+ years of steadily increasing CO2 concentrations, the earth has been cooling instead of warming. All making perfect sense as Svensmark predicted as the sun enters a quiet period, cosmic ray flux incident on earth increases and generates more water nucleation particles which create more clouds which reflect more light away from the earth and we enter a little ice age.

The only sane countries in this classic example of the madness of crowds are Russia and China. I suspect that the Russians deliberately engineered CAGW as a means of destroying N. American and European economies as they are masters at asymetric warfare and play chess instead of checkers like Americans are wont to do. Chinese play Go which is requires even higher level strategic thought than chess. Gorbachev was one of the prime exponents of watermelon policies which have swept the west while Russia and China remain islands of sanity in a world bent on self-destruction.

France has the greatest extent of its power generated by nuclear power plants and one presumes the Gallic smugness represented by the watermelon politician is on the basis of France being the least dependent on fossil fuels. I expect that the European appetite for "alternative" sources of "green" power will disappear this winter if Putin decides it's time to teach the Euroweenies a lesson and cuts off natural gas supplies to Europe during what is likely to be another extremely cold winter. People who are watching neighbors freezing to death because of "climate disruption" are probably not going to be very receptive to statist propaganda that they must reduce their fossil fuel use in order to "save the planet". If one sees EU bureaucrats strung up from lamp standards and a duplication of the recent burning of a tax office by French farmers on a continent wide scale, one knows that the majority of the population has suddenly become aware of the extent of the fraud perpetuated by the oligarchs.

Western oligarchs would probably view a European winter die-off as positive as they view humans (except for themselves, their mistresses, servents and useful idiots) as a plague upon the earth in desperate need of culling. CAGW is just the latest attempt to create a worldwide totalitarian state by these plutocrats and, to counter it, one finds oneself rooting for Putin as Russia seems to be the only voice of sanity in this worldwide epidemic of insanity. (FWIW, I also consider Putin to be a megalomaniac psychopathic dictator but he leads a state where scientific progress is a key goal and, if one has to choose between a watermelon megalomanic psychopath (any of the US or European politicians) or a rational psychopath who believes that technologic solutions are key and discounts junk science, then Putin would be the best of a bad lot to come out on top).

The worst damage that the pseudo-science of environmentalism
inflicts is economic. When they fall for the myth that an
industrial economy can "Conserve" it's way to energy independence, the battle is already lost!

A growing population needs jobs, so without a growing industrial
sector, there are no decent jobs to be had. This damage is
done by embracing insane energy policies that refuse to
build new power plants and oil refineries. Cheap and abundant
energy is the life's blood of industry. Without it, economies
die with the exception of Starbucks and Tim Hortons jobs, but
when nobody can afford their products, what then?

Millwright, maintenance mechanic and industrial electrician.

This is happening in EVERY heavy industry across America
including mining, logging, metals, Aerospace, you name it!

High paying jobs that used to pay high school grads great
wages are now gone. In 1948, 34% of all private sector jobs
were union. Now it is less than 8%. This is welders, plumbers,
pipe-fitters, boiler operators, Millwrights, plumbers,
carpenters, etc.

The brain-dead trolls can rave about solar power all they
want, but they will be doing it on the unemployment line!

PS The people who will be hurt the worst are the college
grads who cannot find a job! While they rail against
capitalism, the one route out of poverty has been closed
to them. An apprentice Millwright makes close to 20
dollars an hour. A Journeyman makes 34 an hour plus
gold plated medical and dental. And every hour they
work, their employer whether working out of the hall or
for a steady employer, has about 4 dollars taxed and thrown
into a vacation fund. This means 2,3 or 4 thousand
dollars every six months.

Every year you work is worth 12 or 15 hundred dollars
a year in a pension fund. This is without a single dollar
contributed to a 401k. If you were willing to work a little
overtime, you could make $150,000 a year! Now, thanks to
the tree-huggers, it is a dying trade. Right now, if you
do not have 20 years in, your ass is on the couch!

Certainly the somewhat Luddite anarco-communism CAGW movement, as one of the modern day radical leftist intellectual icons, Naomi Klein exemplifies, has had to have had some major force behind it. Excellent summary of the world situation today. At some point Canadians should wake up and realize that they have more in common with the culture of the Russians than any others in the world. Whether one likes him or not Putin is a leader, while the others are at best figureheads for the oligarchs that comprise the MIC. Putin is looking decades into the future, not a four year elected term, and will make Russia a major world power. Canada should consider it's allies carefully and not back a dead horse.

Not really, there's never been a shortage of materials for making nuclear bombs. There's nothing for Russia to gain by opposing more nuclear reactors in the US since there is already enough plutonium to kill everyone many times over. They might have opposed European nuclear to increase gas exports, but it wasn't necessary, Europe needs both nuclear and gas to meet current energy needs.

It's much more likely that the opposition to nuclear is funded and directed by international petroleum and coal interests.
