“I play fictitious characters often solving fictitious problems. I believe that mankind has looked at climate change in that same way.”
Speaking Tuesday at the UN Climate Summit, Leonardo DiCaprio, who was recently appointed as the United Nations’ Messenger of Peace“, said –
“We need to put a price on carbon emissions.”
He can certainly afford higher fuel and heating costs. Three months ago, when DiCaprio decided go to party with 21 friends in Rio de Janeiro during the World Cup, he did so on a $728 million dollar, 147-metre long superyacht, the fifth largest in the world.
Such behemoths aren’t exactly low-emission:
A boat measuring more than 71 meters consumes a staggering 500 liters of diesel an hour, according to Superyachts.com–and that’s only if the engine is on but the boat isn’t moving….Smaller yachts can hold around 5,000 liters of fuel, while the larger ones have capacity for up to 400,000 liters. It can cost in the region of €500,000 to fill the tanks of the largest yachts.
DiCaprio, who was “murdered by an iceberg in a movie once”, borrowed or rented the super-yacht from multi-billionaire Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, who is a member of Abu Dhabi’s Supreme Petroleum Council, and is chairman of the International Petroleum Investment Company.
Since DiCaprio is calling for global policies that would see people of far less means paying more for heating and transportation in order to reduce emissions and save the earth from disaster, shouldn’t he also set an example and be responsible for his own individual choices?
“This disaster has grown beyond the choices that individuals make.”
You gotta love it.

just when you though that there could not possibly ever be a bigger eco-wanker than Al Gore….
So how much did Lenny get paid for his UN spew and who paid him?
This is why there should be a celebrity apartheid week. These people should be deliberately isolated from the rest of the populace whose means aren’t even a scratch on DiCaprio’s.
Leonardo DiCaprio, hardly a scientist, doesn’t need an enormous yacht to live. Small-business owners need their cars/trucks/ect to feed their families. Does King Leonardo of the House of Excess realise that or not?
If he was paid it is negligible in comparison to what he will reap from his fans who listen to his “activism”. And if anyone criticizes his acting skills, he is doing a fabulous job in his new acting job. But this is just that, acting. He has taken another role to add to his resume. No one can argue this point since when at work he plays a person who is “concerned” about emissions, and after his day of work(and like most people playing the same role) he enjoys a lavish high carbon footprint.
DiCaprio is indeed a great actor.
Isn’t it strange that so many celebrities who hold an anti-fracking, no Keystone XL position are friends of Arab sheiks?
People such as DiCaprio have cast the climate debate as deniers versus those who believe the world is headed towards climate catastrophe.
But the real debate — the important one — is over how sensitive the climate is to CO2 forcing. And recent evidence and work, including work summarized by the IPCC, point to a lower sensitivity than once thought.
Alarmists would like to avoid talking about such things as it would be used as a reason not to implement their radical plans for overhauling society. So they create this false dichotomy of deniers versus believers, their way of barking “Squirrel!”
Talk like this would drive up the cost of fuel and oil, and therefore make his benefactor Sheikh a lot more money.
How many oil products are used in the movie industry and how the hell would ordinary folks afford to go see or buy their freaking movies?
I forsee a day coming, when there will be a price on professional liars, who brought us the economically crippling mass hysteria of Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming.
The world economy is stagnant with unprecedented debt now.
When a real recovery begins, inflation will be rampant. Todays children come to the work force with their futures mortgaged until their children’s deaths.
Now the mob is easily led, herd beasts are like that, but having been led into self destruction usually clears the self delusion out for a few years.
Hence the spread of conservative governance recently seen and the increased resistance to do anything about imaginary dooms.
And the mob can be very unpleasant to those they believe deliberately set out to stampede them into self destruction.
This is how the CAGW people will be viewed, very soon .
They are secular anti humanists.
They will willingly kill the living poor to mitigate an imaginary harm.
They act to impoverish us all, with an emphasis of keeping the poorest people of the world poor.
They enjoy the highest living standards in human history while seeking to prevent the rest of humanity from even sampling this luxury.
An uglier bunch of religious zealots are hard to imagine.
Even ISIS are small fry butchers compared to the Cult of Calamitous Climate.
Lots of movies are filmed in digital nowadays, but the vast majority of films prior to Star Wars Phantom Menace were on celluloid, including a little film where Leo got killed by a stupid selfish woman who wouldn’t move over and share the ample space on her piece of floating wood… I digress. Celluloid is an oil product. So is makeup. And the plastics in ubiquitous use in props. And a lot of the paint used in the sets. Without oil, there would be no Hollywood.
Why does this remind me of the communists of the 70’s and the 80’s. We should all starve and work in the fields for nothing. Then those same people lived the richest lives in the country.
Who really gives a crap? Really!
Other than being a example of the intellectual poverty of celebrity activists and their phony public facade, what is this person?
Gotta wonder how much he paid for the effeminate little hair-ball at the back of his head!

To you and me, he is nothing.
Unfortunately to a great many morons who unfortunately benefit from universal suffrage, he and others like him are everything. This is why we have to care.
Another one of the usual Hypocritical Wealthy Rent Seekers
busy trying to convince the peasants to pay for his castle and
outlandish life style “for their own good.”
“They are secular anti humanists.”
Jeezus John, the first idiot I had to slap down on this bullsh*t was a religious rite wing nut job. And there are quite a few “religious” ppl who believe in this crap, both rite wing and lefties, just sayin!!!!
Poll at the bottom of the Mirror page asking if enough is being done to fight climate change, yes or no. It needs the SDA treatment.
Leonardo is under the misconception that his opinions matter to the vast majority of humanity. He has just reaffirmed his disconnect from reality.
Hollywood. Hypocrisy be thy name, and crude derision your deserve epitaph.
People such as DiCaprio are total lunatics. The Emperor Has No Clothes. There is no warming.
Yeah well I don’t envy Leo his wealth, nor object to how he spends it…it’s his.
In principle, he is entitled to his opinions, whatever….
What qualifies him to address the UN on climate policy? ….more than me for example…
Because he is a celebrity…..however as a responsible citizen, he has a responsibility which goes with the influence he has over the stupid….
It’s like Sting and John Lennon were not quailified as advisors or role models, outside of being successful musicians.
It’s much like a lotta fools attribute great scientific expertise in all disciplines to our famous fruit-fly geneticist.
I happened onto this article which shows what a magnificent scam the wind turbine industry really is. It allows rich men like Warren Buffett to fleece electricity rate payers for billions of dollars in risk-free profits:
http://nlpc.org/stories/2014/05/21/how-warren-buffet-fleeces-consumers-taxpayers-through-wind-energy
This piece shows how the scam ties nicely into Democrat crony capitalism and the voter initiative racket:

Let them eat cake.
Speaking of wankers the whole panic reminds me of the “vanishing peni$” hysteria that grips
Chinese, Japanese, and Korean males from time to time. They think, on the basis of no evidence,
and presumably despite what they themselves see, that their male organs are shrinking into
their bodies. The hysteria seems to recur about every five years. It is like AGW hysteria
of the DiCaprio type, though it is intermittent while his is continuous
Are you sure?
Given the one belief these Eco-nasties all share, is that there are too many people , more than the planet can sustain.
Mother earth is the religion of these people, who claim to be above religion.
All the circular justification they spew attempting to confirm their belief, definitely people haters, without any of the old gods.
So while they may claim to be Christian, Jew, Moslem or such, their actions speak louder.. Godless twits suffused with self hatred, out to reduce mankind.
Their true mark is their absolute certainty and total lack of humility.

You are correct that without oil there would be no Hollywierd.
However celluloid is not a petroleum product, and besides, it’s not used for film anymore.
A typical formulation of celluloid might contain 70 to 80 parts nitrocellulose, nitrated to 11% nitrogen, 30 parts camphor, 0 to 14 parts dye, 1 to 5 parts ethyl alcohol, plus stabilizers and other agents to increase stability and reduce flammability.
Well said. Maybe someone should stop slamming people who think differently than him.
Don’t forget that these Gaia worshiping anti-humanists think that there are 6 billion too many people on earth and a reduction of those who are less equal is in order, one way or anther.
I sit corrected. Nonetheless, the point about props, makeup (not to mention transportation of people and supplies when shooting on location), and paint being oil-based stand.
John, to discount these ppl as you try to do makes you indistinguishable from the eco lunies, just because these “Christians” don’t believe as you do makes them no less Christian from my POV. Fact is many traditional Christians do believe in AGW, and that has nothing to do with population reduction. Population reduction is an added belief that only some eco nuts adhere to. Trust me, there are a few RCs who steer clear of the AGW discussion around me.
The concentrated “stench of sulfur” permeates around this hypocritical imbecile.
As Instapundit says, “Repeal the Hollywood tax cuts”. Well, that and “I’ll believe there is a climate crisis when the people who are telling me this act like there is a climate crisis”.
Wonder if this is a bad time to ask how many of these celebrities even graduated high school, let alone have taken a science class in college.
One scam that Hollywierd producers like to tout is running the generators with biodiesel and claiming it makes their movie ‘green’.
The problem is population density, not population per se. The population densities in the world’s mega slums are not sustainable. If the people can’t grow enough food to feed themselves, then food aid will only enable them to produce more hungry mouths that can’t feed themselves. If they produce nothing of value to trade for food, then let em starve and die till the region reaches it’s carrying capacity. There’s no free lunch on spaceship earth.
Of course if you want to send your hard-earned dollars to the starving 3rd world, then go right ahead, but no more tax dollars for food aid.
