  1. The Washington Free Beacon:
“The federal government is spending nearly $1 million to create an online database that will track ‘misinformation’ and hate speech on Twitter.
“The National Science Foundation is financing the creation of a web service that will monitor ‘suspicious memes’ and what it considers ‘false and misleading ideas,’ with a major focus on political activity online.
“The ‘Truthy’ database, created by researchers at Indiana University, is designed to ‘detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution.’”

  2. “Vermont Restaurant Removes Bacon Sign Due to Muslim Opposition and Safety Concerns.”

The sign that read “Yield Sneakers Bacon” was removed after a woman, identifying herself as a Muslim, posted in an online community forum, stating she was personally offended by the sign, according to a WPTZ News report. WPTZ wrote that the woman who complained online called the sign “insensitive to those who do not consume pork.”

  3. Lots of art deco in Cleveland and Cincinnati. Unfortunately the “Guardians of Traffic” huge statues on the Hope Memorial Bridge in Cleveland are crumbling as the city is going bankrupt.

  4. Wow EBD…three PC pieces of BS to start us off! If she doesn’t or can’t eat bacon, then don’t effin buy it or shop there! Where the f@@k has common sense gone? Oh yeah…Mooselimbs don’t have common sense, just an over powering urge to destroy Western Civilization, and we let them get away with it.

  5. “astroturfing” is a new one to me–
” Creating the impression of public support by paying people in the public to pretend to be supportive.
The false support can take the form of letters to the editor, postings on message boards in response to criticism, and writing to politicians in support of the cause.
Astroturfing is the opposite of “grassroots”, genuine public support of an issue. ”

  7. While Obama is dreaming about his next round of golf, Russia is debating on how much of the Ukraine he can take without much opposition. Europe is loathe to intervene because their investments in green energy now leaves them at Russia’s mercy for the real energy. Rectifying the situation should start with stringing up Gore,Suzuki, all members of Green Peace and the IPCC. That would be a good, albeit modest start.

  8. Social problems behind aboriginal murders won’t be solved by another public inquiry
    Andrew Coyne
From the RCMP report, we have a good idea who their murderers are: in more than 90% of cases, they are known to or indeed related to the victim. We know why they did it: in more than half the cases, as a result of an “argument or quarrel” or “frustration, rage and despair.” We know where: three-quarters of the time, in a residence. We know how: beatings (32%) and stabbings (31%) predominate.
More broadly, the surrounding social circumstances identified in the RCMP report will surprise no one: from unemployment to substance abuse to chronic violence and abuse. The dysfunction that afflicts many (but by no means all) aboriginal communities has been amply documented, as have its causes, from economic deprivation to the devastating legacy of the residential schools to the cultural trauma of colonialism generally.
The broad project of repairing that social destruction should absolutely be among the first of our concerns as a country, with aboriginal people themselves very much taking the lead. It is not evident what contribution another public inquiry would make to that end.

  9. In states with a medical marijuana law, overdose deaths from opioids like morphine, oxycodone and heroin decreased by an average of 20 percent after one year, 25 percent by two years and up to 33 percent by years five and six compared to what would have been expected, according to results in JAMA Internal Medicine.
Meanwhile, opioid overdose deaths across the country increased dramatically…

  10. Another public inquiry, or even a royal commission will not do anything to address the problems within the “native” population.
In fact, it will only prolong the problem while more die and many more will be sucked into the system that propagates and profits from the myth that they are not responsible for what they do.
The next generation is not off to a good start.
A public inquiry enables those who do not care, to project the mirage that they do.
It is a simple bandage that appeals to simple people.
The cure is nasty, amputation nasty.
BTW, check out the addiction rate on some reserves to opiates. On any given day, 50% of the adults are f’ed up on oxy.
Imagine being a child in that environment. Suicide starts to look pretty damn good.

  12. Every time an aboriginal woman is killed they call for an inquiry. What have they done since the last call for inquiry to address the conditions in their communities that causes girls [and boys] to drop out of school and get involved with gangs, drugs, and risky behavior?
If the aboriginals want to waste their money on an inquiry, nobody is stopping them, however it would be better if they used their resources to address the root of the problem which everyone is pretending to ignore.
This is a predominately aboriginal problem that begins at an early age in aboriginal communities. If these communities spent less money on Chiefs and Councilors and more on raising healthy children, then this problem would be solved. The aboriginal communities are the only ones who can fix this and they already get enough money to do it IF they want to.

  13. Liberal Senator Celine Hervieux-Payette files a complaint against a Conservative senator. Her beef?? CPC Senator Pierre Hughes Boisvenu was dating one of his own staff members.
Imagine, a Liberal who yields from a party that engineered Sponsorgate, legalized abortion, gay marriage, and now want to legalize pot and Doctor assisted suicides is shocked because a Senator dated one of his employees. Liberal hypocrites! (My comment was removed at CBC for writing this.)

PS: If they took their photo together at the Senate–obviously they had nothing to hide. And read carefully before you jump to conclusions that the expenses he charged were illegal.

  14. Stupid sheeple are easier to control politically, and it’s easier to con them into buying stuff they don’t need with money they don’t have.

  15. Hamilton and Windsor are looking more like Cleavland – at least the last time I was there on business they did – I’ve never seen Canadian cities with s many boarded up businesses. With the recent election of a rust belt government Ontario intends to follow in the path of the post industrial US East.

Tax rates cut by Conservative PM Harper.

“Canada has become the latest frontier for U.S. companies fleeing the high cost of business, spurred by low corporate taxes and a policy that keeps international earnings out of the clutches of the Internal Revenue Service.”

  19. Coincidently some friends are in Cleveland right now seeing the Rock&Roll hall of fame and museum. So far all they seem to have noticed is the trendy little tourist area.
I’ll see what they get for pictures.

  20. That was a good article by Coyne, but as usual he had to get in an early dig at Harper (suggesting that his comment was “simplistic”), even though Harper’s position is quite correct. I guess that is to be expected. The journos would alienate their friends if they started looking like Harper supporters.

  22. Video also doesn’t really show the worst part of Cleveland with all the boarded up businesses. You don’t want to be there after dark. Lots of circuses there though (sports) and bread (food stamps). Sad fate for a city that used to be a vital centre in the U.S.
