Q) And the consequences are? How dangerous a situation is it?
This is analogous to Afghanistan, say, in August 2001. And this time, it is Al Qaeda version 6.0. They make bin Laden’s 2011 Al Qaeda look like Boy Scouts.
They are far stronger; they are far more numerous. They have thousands who hold foreign passports and require no visas to get into the United States or other Western countries.
They are well funded, they are battle-hardened, and they are well armed. And they now control far more territory exclusively than bin Laden ever did. They have the security; they have the safety to plan their next set of operations; and they are a messianic movement.
Believe me, they are planning those operations. That’s why the Saudis moved 30,000 troops up to their border. They know that ISIS wants Mecca and Medina.
They also want to come after us. And I can tell you, as we sit here today in Washington, they’re sitting in Mosul figuring out how they’re going to get at us next.

“…And I can tell you, as we sit here today in Washington, they’re sitting in Mosul figuring out how they’re going to get at us next….”
Well, let me see. On one Border, they’re harassing visiting Canadians about orange peels and Kinder Surprises, and on the other one…..
A pretty chilling read. Crocker seemed far more optimistic about the opportunity for stability in Iraq than I would. Maliki’s comment that the Americans would have to be there for decades appears to be very accurate.
The unspoken reality appears to be the solutions that both Hussein and Assad have used and that is brute force and terror. They used what has always been used in the ME, murder and extreme subservience. Islam appears to be built on this base.
In many ways I understand the world forces that stand against increased Canadian oil production. A Canada that produces 8-10 million bpd of crude would undermine the flow of cash that IMHO artificially supports the core countries in the ME. As more and more crude supply comes on stream these ME economies are threatened. Not only are all these ME governments spending 100% of oil revenue but most of the spending is on social subsidies. Any cutback would be devastating and destabilizing.
I do not see a quick solution to the ME. It suffers from a interrupted history that runs back centuries. The Western world should secure their borders with the ME and have a united front on dealings there. Internal interference with these countries should stop and foreign aid should stop. As long as oil flows there is enough money for the Arab world to feed themselves. As a Canadian I do not want emigration from these countries either. Citizens that originate from these countries appear to have loyalties that do not extend to Canada.
But obama says we have them on the run :

It’s probably nothing….
So Steyn nailed it, eh?
“The Western world should secure their borders with the ME and have a united front on dealings there.” This will not happen as we have too many politicians with the 1930s mentality of appeasement. The West will not confront this threat to civilization until ISIS is marching on Vienna.
Historical scholars have for decades warned us about this threat.
“And I can tell you, as we sit here today in Washington, they’re sitting in Mosul figuring out how they’re going to get at us next.”
I wouldn’t be the tiniest bit worried about these sh1tweasels if it wasn’t for the likes of Kathleen “Dong” Wynne and Justine “Shiny Pony” Trudeau, and the hordes of CUPE and CUPW slime who think they can get a leg up doing deals with them.
Conquer the true enemy, and the Mooselimb Issue will take care of itself.
Indeed. But for good measure, “from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli…”
Sometimes the only language these moon cult thugs understand is when it is spoken to them in turn, only louder.
The US are fluent in it, but they will never do what it will ultimately take, and that is to say, “fine, you will have what you want and we will withdraw from all middle-eastern affairs and leave you strictly alone. But be warned – if one American Airline is hijacked, if one civilian overseas is kidnapped or murdered, if any of our landmarks are attacked, Medina becomes the next best exporter of glass. The next such attack results in Mecca becoming a parking lot. Govern yourselves accordingly.”
Those that say that will only embolden and enrage these fundamentalist fanatics acting in the name of Allah and Islam need to remember that the Japanese were also as fanatic in their belief in Bushido and their Divine Emperor. They insisted upon learning the hard way, but learn they did. Just speak the language louder and louder until they hear.
“Maliki’s comment that the Americans would have to be there for decades appears to be very accurate.”
Essentially, that’s the only way the Iraq experiment could have succeeded. The Americans didn’t just up & leave Japan or Germany after 1945. Truman didn’t leave West Berlin in her hour of need to be overrun by the communists, nor a power vacuum in Japan to be filled by the worst elements of what was left of her society. Obama would have done both, and bragged about it.
But the American people haven’t got the patience nor the stomach for that kind of thing any more, so now they elect preening fools as leaders who won’t get them mixed-up in all those faraway places. Obama is a far lower calibre of president than anybody since Buchanan, if you ask me, and he’s a direct reflection of the vanity and ignorance that has poisoned America’s soul.
Natural consequence of modern western education system.
Taught to rewrite history to suit their need.
Wilfully ignorant of human nature.
Natural Law is unknowable to city dwellers.
Unwilling to self educate, possibly inoculated against doing so, the lessons of history are lost.
Everything is a surprise. Unprecedented.
Eventually we will be forced to repeat past actions or watch trade grind to a halt.
In the interim we can up our export, as in deport the recent imports of haters and send our fifth columnists along to experience the peaceful humanitarian people they keep promoting and covering for.
We need to send the message; “Welcome to Canada, join us, If you cannot leave the old hatreds behind, leave now”We have neither time or space for other people wars..
The interview had a few good take-aways, particularly in what the Ambassador has “learned” about engaging and leaving in that part of the world.
To me it just reinforces the thoughts that Islam is a pathology that thrives on the carrion of civilizations and that the real enemy of Western civilization is loss of reason, progressivism, moral relativism, and statism that create their preferred habitat. Going to that part of the world to confront the future carrion eaters or your civilization is ill-conceived.
I don’t know how thoroughly you read the article. You are correct about the fact that there is no solution. But WE CANNOT
DISENGAGE from them. The nature of our society is an affront to them. They will attack, as they did on 9/11,
but more effectively, and probably with a strong fifth column.
WE CANNOT DISENGAGE FROM IRAQ nor from Iran.
” They also want to come after us. And I can tell you, as we sit here today in Washington, they’re sitting in Mosul figuring out how they’re going to get at us next. ”
Crocker calls them terrorists, Obama calls them DREAMers.
It is easy to get to Canada from the Middle East. The best I have done in 15 minutes searching is from Beirut to Toronto,
departing Beirut 31 July 2014 at 7:50 pm, with one stop, arrives Toronto at 3:45 pm on 1 August. The cost, one way,
is $1331 and at least the first leg is with Emirates.
So our prospective terrorist will enjoy at least the first leg of his flight.
On one Border, they’re harassing visiting Canadians about orange peels and Kinder Surprises, and on the other one….. Jamie McMaster
They harass Canadians, Britons, in fact, every western nationality trying to visit the US, so that they can spout some figures about how hard they make it for illegals to enter the US. As if law abiding visitors from civilized nations were the problem.
Typical non-answer to a grave concern of the American people from the Republican/Democrat fusion party.
Excellent Clear Read.
It mirrors my 61 yr old thoughts…as do those of CT.
I too have wondered often where all the money comes from to support all the “environmentalists” and anti-Israel crowds. It comes from those that would see Canada Hobbled by tighter controls on Oil/Gas production and a climate of fear for our Jewish Canadians.
CT, You are bang on the$$ about social responsibilities…with relatives working for Emirates Airlines..I hear this first hand – Not one emirate “works’ at least in our definition of the word. They get paid and handsomely to basically sit on their collective asses while the ex-pats do the real slugging in the Tech end of things and 1.2 million Indians do the labour/construction/retail work. these people have free social services and cash to spend – & that my friends costs a lot of money..something to the order of around 90% of the price of a Barrel of oil today goes to these social services….cut these guys off ..?? and you will have riots, murder and mayhem in the streets of Dubai..and elsewhere.
So I do like the idea of a complete separation from the ME..the sooner the better.
As for immigration into Canada. All Islamic immigration MUST STOP NOW..!!

I like the sound of that much better than riots, murder and mayhem in the streets of… Toronto, for example. I might get caught in some of that, and I’d like to get through my life without having to send a bunch of cretins off to the arms of their 72 virgins, thanks very much.
I have this thing about showing up at the Pearly Gates with a history. Got enough to worry about already.
