  1. How ironic. The SRC doesn’t want to share the money they’ve earned to help its “less fortunate” sister station.
Wouldn’t it be funny if the ROC decided not to share money with our “less fortunate” sister province?

  2. “With the federal subsidy still shrinking at the hands of a hostile Conservative government”
Apparently showing a bit of fiscal responsibility and common sense and doing the right thing, although at a snail’s pace, is considered “hostile” in some circles.
If the so-called subsidy shrinking was replaced by immediate subsidy elimination, as it should be, would “hostile” become “evil” or “dictatorial” or some other unsavoury adjective?

  3. With the possible exception of “Mitsou”, my Canadian entertainment doesn’t include french programing.
Why should I pay for their entertainment?

  4. The CBC will pull all the stops in next year’s federal election. I can only hope that they go so over the top that there will be a backlash. The CPC truly seems to believe that through sound governance they will endear themselves to some quasi progressives. Those progressives who voted CPC last go around did so through fear for their financial security more than anything. I do not expect the same result.
Again I must question the philosophical and even intellectual base for the CPC. To a great extent they have ‘again’ lost touch with some of their western base. I hope that Harper has a very aggressive platform in the can and will not let the campaign be dominated by forces headed by the CBC who will definitely try that ploy.

  5. “…Apparently showing a bit of fiscal responsibility and common sense and doing the right thing, although at a snail’s pace, is considered “hostile” in some circles. …”
Of course. Fiscal responsibility, common sense, and doing the right thing are hostile to those circles.

  6. “advertising revenues at the English network risk sinking below those brought in by the French side, which draws millions more viewers despite operating in a much smaller market.”
    1) It’s not government money(the government has no money) it’s tax money and the French market takes more than it pays in taxes every year.
    2) The Anglosphere produces far more TV/Radio programing than the Francosphere simply because it’s been more econ0omically successful.
Having more choice means Anglo-Canadians don’t have to consume the CBC’s programming, despite being a larger market.
    3) Of course advertising revenues will be greater for the French CBC, the same advertisers are getting their product ads across to the Anglosphere consumers when these consumers watch American programming. Duh!

  7. The CBC continually bites the hand that feeds them. Slow learners, considering they see themselves as the voice of the nation. In reality they are the voice of only the left and are learning the hard way that the left would much rather receive than give. Balanced reporting is such a simple concept. Too bad they never got the hang of it.

  8. Last time I checked cbc had lost hockey in quebec as well as TROC. Once the hockey revenues are taken out of the cbc quebec figures……
Jr. will puff up and promise all things to the cbc. They will take the bait as it will be the only offer they get. It wont translate to votes though as the the cbc types already vote liberal.
Saving the cbc isn’t a top of mind issue for Canadians. They are ambivalent at best. It’s not a vote getter. Harper has little at risk here and he as well as the cbc know it.

  9. “Saving the cbc isn’t a top of mind issue for Canadians”
You’re probably right. However, if the average Canadian was informed that $1.5 billion per year of taxpayers’ money was being used to feed this parasite, axing the CBC would soon become a top of mind issue. It’s high time for the interment of this bloated cadaver, quickly, quietly and with no ceremony whatsoever. Those that p*ss and moan the loudest (Friends of the CBC) can step up to the plate with their own money and reanimate the giant lamprey. After all, what are “friends” for.
