All it needs is a snappy name, like “national energy program”.
Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau confirms he would put a price on carbon emissions regardless of whether other countries do.
The comment came Friday at the Calgary Stampede when Sun News Network’s Rob Gibson asked the Grit chief if he’d take action on carbon emissions if major emitters like China and the United States did not.
Trudeau said Canada’s role is to be “an example,” adding “we need to show that we are taking this seriously.”

“Trudeau said Canada’s role is to be ‘an example'”
Yes, so that other countries can say, “Let’s not do that. Just look at what happened to Canada’s economy when they did it.”
Yeah, it ain’t ‘Canada’ that’ll be paying his carbon tax, it’ll be the West.
The A-holes that vote Liberal live in provinces that don’t have energy resources, and make no mistake, the resources belong to the people of the provinces where the resources, Not to Canada.
These are not Canada’s resources.
This shouldn’t even be an issue.
There is No Global Warming and there is No Energy Shortage.
We already have lots “examples”…..Spain for one. Germany for another…which is moving back to coal fired power plants as fast as it can. But then Liberals really aren’t that bright. Reality frightens them so they live in a fantasy world.
…We already have lots “examples”…..Spain for one. Germany for another…which is moving back to coal fired power plants as fast as it can…
WE will soon have another: ONtar-I-OWE, previously known as the economic engine of Canada – quiicklly turning into the Banana Republic I mentioned earlier…
And I’m with OZs’ last commnet 100%
Yep we are actually experiencing a rather interesting cooling trend in the Oil Sands right now…just a matter of a small forest fire in the territories…temps in the low 20’s here – S/B in the 30’s+ Just imagine a good sized volcanic eruption…??? So much for global warming.
Ice age then warming
Ice age then warming and on and on and on
…sound familiar.??
This scenario reminds me of the Simpsons episode where a consortium unsuccessfully tries a takeover of the nuclear power plant, exhorting Mr Burns to “stop pretending you’re not afraid of us.”
We already have the infrastructure to Separate. We planned that long ago, unlike Quebec.
It will be a reluctant goodbye , but so was the American Revolution.
All we really have to do is vote for it than pick a Capitol. The business & trade regulations are already in place. It would be nice not to send transfer payments the the East like a form of Jizra to Quebec & Ontario’s monetary stupidity , by voting for communists.
I’ll just mention two names: Tommy Douglas and Alison Redford. Brought to us all by the conservative West (and I
very kindly didn’t even mention BC, the Far West).
Well he means an example with respect to controlling CO2 since we are too small to make a difference re global warming. My concern is that there are many naive voters who would go for this pap. It’s embarrassing, and quite foolish — but it has just the right warm and fuzzy tone that will attract soft-headed voters.
To accomplish the objective of a carbon tax, it should be as close to the point of consumption as possible to change consumption behavior. You can guarantee Turdeau would tax our oil at the wellhead, as someone pointed out above. That way you could tax CO2 we don’t create on exports without taxing the Chinese CO2 integral in imports from China. A carbon tax would be a big cluster. Joe Clark ran on a tax increase and got hammered and I honestly think Clark was a genius compared to Turdeau and Clark really wasn’t too swift.
This has nothing to do with CO 2 or global worming or pollution. It is the same reason McGuinty went all green energy and Dion wanted his Green Shift; to turn Canadians into serfs. These guys love the UN and M. Strong. Remember, China already has a dictator, India is teaming with serfs, so their pollution doesn’t matter because they are already under control.

The next election — barring some intervening economic crisis — will not pivot on platforms and issues. It will not be about pipelines or changes in this or that social program. These matters will be present, and they will inform the coverage, but they will not be determinative. It will instead be about a contrast, the contrast between the two strongest actors on the politics stage — Harper and Trudeau. We are seeing this even now.
The storyline in Canadian politics is Harper the veteran against Trudeau the newcomer. It is as much generational and stylistic as it is purely political. I’m not at all sure the leading Conservative players have realized this yet. Their playbook against Trudeau is very much a variant of the tired tactics that blistered Stéfane Dion and Michael Ignatieff. It simply does not fit their current challenger. Trudeau is speaking and performing in a different political idiom.
“””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””
The election won’t be decided by the people who write in political forums like SDA which exist on both ends of the political spectrum. Same sh!t, different names to ridicule at both ends cancel each other out.
Elections are decided by the vast majority of middle of the road Canadians who think all politicians are corrupt and may or may not vote at all. For the people who decide the outcome it’s a popularity contest nothing more, and they will decide in the last few weeks of the campaign who they will vote for, if at all. In the last few elections the largest percent of the eligible voters were those who said “fucq this”, and didn’t vote.
It will all come down to who gets out the vote, not who is best qualified or has the best platform. When it comes to mobilizing people using social media, there is one group who is far more advanced than the others.
The Conservatives had better realize that attack ads and trying to scare people only appeals to the party faithful who will vote for them anyway. Dirty politics will surely alienate the one group who might just give them the next govt, …or not.
It’s time the people take action and not expecting the government to, unless of course we can hire PM Abbott.
Your post @ 5:35. I’m very afraid that you are right about the media touting this empty suit all the way.
A wellhead carbon tax is most certainly NEP II.
A tax on nothing is every politicians wet dream. As his father once said, ” if you don’y like it you can fuddle duddle yourself”. Don’t forget the boy child really admires China because they can turn on a dime. Just like Obama………Forward.
In the 80’s the pgrt hurt Alberta and not Ontario because most the Oil was drilled conventionally and the rigs packed up and left. Since Ontario got it’s oil from sand land they did not notice anything. It is different this time Alberta is strong Ontario is weak and sand land is on fire. Unlike the eighties most of the oil is from the oil sands which can not be sent south. This tax will affect everyone and it does not matter where it is applied it will be added to product and the consumer will pay.
The object is to get yer money. Carbon tax or what ever they may call it will not reduce carbon output.
There are many shifty UN, state and city schemes to get yer money. The actual reduction of carbon is wholly and utterly irrelevant. There is no such effect.
If the drama queen somehow does become a PM and try this scheme on Albertans, he may hit the wall. There may be a referendum just to show the airhead to get some sense. Though having nothing in the noggin, he may miss that.
When he was in Calgary there was a Liberal booth on the downtown walk, there were few people and none that stopped.
Nonetheless the guy impresses the female students and many upwardly mobile females. Of course as the case may be they are giving their brains leave without pay and their infatuation is working overtime.
If what he wants happen, there will be price to pay.
You can take that any way you want, one size fits all.
Some of the worlds largest refineries are on the verge of going off line
Pipelines won’t be built fast enough if the yanks need some oil
With a year to go before the election we have one more winter to see if the Libby/Pandolfi theory has some veracity. If so then we will have nothing to worry about because it’ll be too damned late to build a pipeline to keep the Easterners from freezing in the dark. LOL!!!!
I remain pessimistic. The voters WILL fall for it. Even with Obama’s current train wreck to lend a cautionary example, Canadians still seem to be itching for a messiah candidate of their own, who whispers sweet nothings into their ear.
If a tax is to be levied against Canada as a condition of trade with the US, it would be a violation of NAFTA. Anyone that would campaign on such a platform has either not realized this or is acting in bad faith with voters.
What’s the point of voting at all when a body of unelected judges interpret issues according to the Trudeau Charter and the elected government must go with their decisions?
This is the true-dough kinder speaking out of his “Butts” again.
Wondering when the Pony gets clobbered over his carbon tax plan or NEP revisited if Harvard will have a spot for him like they rescued Rat McGuinty who left Ontario saddled with debt and of course reinstated failed Liberal leader Iggy Poo.
“…For the people who decide the outcome it’s a popularity contest nothing more,…”
Amen, Amen, Amen. The sad fact is, most of the electorate views politics as some kind of spectator sport or TV show like Dancing With the Stars. Pure emotion – no brains.
And the Conservatives simply don’t understand this. When they should be dreaming up some kind of glittering centre piece for the next election – a bauble or two that will appeal to childishness.
Conservatives have to learn how to window dress, put up a glitzy front, forget about the serious stuff like managing the economy or balancing budgets, which Trudeau says balance themselves.
The ditzy voters are more interested in a head of hair and a smile, important matters are too much for their thought process capabilities, much of which is taken up with tabloid journalism which passes for factual news throughout the MSM.
Liz J “Wondering when the Pony gets clobbered over his carbon tax plan or NEP revisited if Harvard will have a spot for him”
I guess they need someone to get coffee and clean up. Iggy was smart but just acted stupid. Turdeau is truly stupid.
Gee, I wonder if the NEP II will give Western Separation the push to actually happen and let the eastern lib/dippers freeze in the dark while they starve to death?
By the way, kids in grade 2 learn that CO2 is required for photosythesis. GRADE 2. I was coaching my youngest for a science test by making him draw the photosynthesis diagrams for night and day….So everyone in Canada is given this really important lesson when they are 7 or 8 yrs old. I believe that most of the morons forget this lesson–yet still get into university. There should be university entrance exams in this country.
“…There should be university entrance exams in this country. …”
Oh, but there are! Used to be called a pulse check.
