What We Really Need Is Democracy

Egypt: "He isn't Hitler, but he does look a bit like Mussolini."

"Samuel Tadros: If you cut off the aid money the question is, what happens next? Egypt would be shocked, partly because the government views that money as its natural right. They signed the treaty with Israel for US money. That was the deal. And Egypt kept its end of the bargain. There’s a strong sense of entitlement there."

Heh, what's new.

Anyway there's nothing like paying protection money to the Mafia, to feel like the most powerful nation in the world.

They use taxpayer money to buy off everyone from drug cartels to Liberal multicultural programs and entitlement ghetto's in the idiotic belief they'll leave you alone.

"...It’s tempting to be blinded by Cairo. It’s a humongous city. So it’s not surprising that people who spend all their days in Cairo and only leave to go to the north coast on vacation would mistake Cairo for Egypt"

Gee, glad that doesn't happen in Ontario.

But on to the subject: Egypt. I think there is probably a mathematical formula that says government disfunction and corruption increases at the square of public tolerance for same...oh, sorry...I'm back to Ontario again, eh?

Liberal democracy in the Arab world? It hasn't seemed to work. Let's try it again in 1,000 years.

Democracy and ISLAM are diametrically opposed to each other. Will NEVER Happen. the only time Islamics like Democracy is to use to turn wherever you live into a sharia "wonderland".

Best thing we could do in North America is to KEEP THEM OUT.

Just watched this video...absolutely excellent response by a Bridgette Gabriel who is part of a Benghazi Panel in response to a young Muslim who identifies herself as such with a question that has Jack to do with Benghazi. Sh*t disturber as per usual. But the response she gets is not what she was looking for I bet..!!

Watch.!! Its Awesome.

At a core belief basis Christianity is anti-tyrant, while Islam is anti-democracy. If you want democracy don't expect to find it in an Islamic country. Of course you don't pick apples from thorn bushes either.

Depressing article. Sounds like it's "lift off and nuke them all from orbit" time.

Well it certainly got the attention of perhaps one of the most implacable national entities in history, Imperial Japan.

Here on the interwebs, somebody claimed, with no evidence, that Japan was desperately trying to make peace from March 1945, (after which Kamakaze attacks became institutionalized, and yet even after the Atomic bombings peace, for the Japanese government, was a close run thing...

It's very, very hard to argue against success....

Islam is having it's reformation...back to scripture, but due to the vast difference between the teachings of Christ and Muhamed...back to basics is a poisoned chalice. Fundamentalist Muslims ain't Quakers.

T'ain't right, tain't wrong, just is..........

I am skeptical of the even handed descriptions and obsevations of Mr. Tadros. He sounds like a well spoken marxist or communist, shilling for the cause. Note how he uses the term "revolutionary socialists," which sounds idealistic, lofty and progressive, where most people would use communist.

And look at what he thinks is the best future for Egypt? A combination of the two most oppressive and murderous ideologies in the world:

"It’s a mixture of Islamism and a Marxist discourse on the people in one package. This would be a tremendous development. Sunni Islam has never been revolutionized in this way before."

It's great that the Muslim Brotherhood was overthrown but the new ruler is just as dictatorial and murderous if not more so. Just cut off all aid to that place already.

Just Truth >

But LAS you cheered on the Muslim Brotherhood along with SDA resident Liberal ET throughout the "Arab Spring".

You celebrated Al Qaeda looting Libya's stolen military equipment after Obamba had Gadhafi's corpse raped in the streets with statements like "I hope they put them to good use".

Indeed they have, but not the way you thought.

We remember LAS, you've never gotten anything right.

My thesis is that Canadians are lobotomized Americans. And Americans do not wish to understand the real world.

and STFU.

knight99, U and LAS have some common ground, don't be so hard on him(and don't have one for him). ET's views are supported by history, were as yours appear to be supported by ignorance.

Joe said,"At a core belief basis Christianity is anti-tyrant", ah yup, they had to change just to keep the collection plate from being returned EMPTY. In that it took KRISTIANITY about 500 years to reach modern times in a modern and acceptable form is some thing that also seems to escape Knight99 and menodhimmini.

Further, there are functional polities with Muslim majorities. They aren't all pleasant or fully free but Islam is not lethal to a civil society. Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Kurdistan, Turkey (more borderline), Somaliland.

"Indeed they have, and in exactly the way I thought."

FIFY. Now go back to tard table where you belong.

"ET's views are supported by history, were as yours appear to be supported by ignorance."

My views are supported by the facts, ones that have happened since I argued my points 2 years ago with ET. Coupled with the fact that I've spent over 2 decades living in the Middle East, North Africa, and Muslim SEA to know the things ET can't get from a book.

You on the other hand are simply a trouble maker with no valid opinion on any of it. Snarky empty snipes at random commenters is about all the worthy opinion you've provided.

Kinda sad don't cha think?

Thanks for that, John Lewis.

My read of Egyptian history is that the Muslim Brotherhood gained traction when Anwar Sadat tried to revamp the Egyptian civil service by hiring on merit rather than a seniority list. Traditionally Egyptians graduated from school and then applied for government jobs. this meant a wait of 7-8 years. Private sector jobs are very few and working for government the only alternative.

Most westerners have no concept of life without a job opportunity or failing that government welfare to subsist on. No job means no wife, no family, no future. When Sadat threatened this future by merit hiring there was a ground swell of unrest. Muslim Brotherhood gained traction as it ran a social welfare system and even enforced law and order through Sharia law. Sadat was assassinated. Some of these people went on to form the al Qaeda movement.

More often than not religion is used as a tool to unite people for a cause. Usually that is all about feeding ones self and family. If one cannot feed himself then abstract thought is somewhat irrelevant.
