The leaders of the Presbyterian Church in America had an interesting vote yesterday:
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on Friday became the most prominent religious group in the United States to endorse divestment as a protest against Israeli policies toward Palestinians, voting to sell church stock in three companies whose products Israel uses in the occupied territories.
The General Assembly voted by a razor-thin margin — 310-303 — to sell stock in Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard and Motorola Solutions. Two years ago, the General Assembly rejected a similar divestment proposal by two votes.
Is it too far fetched to think that a future vote will have them divesting themselves of everything Canadian, blaming the oil sands as the reason?!

I’d never own Hewlett Packard since the HP Foundation funds radical islam, planned parent hood and other leftist causes.
BDS supporters, Jewish or not, are BROWNSHIRTS!
Full disclosure – not a member of the Presbyterian Church (in America or otherwise), but am a member of a mainline protestant church.
My experience in the church suggests that this will spark a helluva fight, and if it holds, the church will lose a lot of members – maybe even split. Bad plan. Very bad plan.
Well since it’s already in the lefty anti-oil sands groups, you can bet that as they become more shrill you’ll see them try pushing it on the general public.
They got rid of crosses. Denounced Jesus as the messiah, the resurrection, virgin birth. All that makes Christianity a faith. This is no church but a nest of Marxists waiting till the old parishioners who built the churches to die, so these socialist can take over the properties to divest the churches of there assets to enrich themselves.
We seen it with the United Church. With its atheist monitors.Frankly these are political organizations now, that should not be getting tax breaks.
No wonder for 300 years Christians meet in house churches forbidding building houses of worship, least people start looking to the buildings rather than the Messiah as holy places.
They forget the New Covenant was made to Jews not gentiles. We are only unnatural growths included in salvation by worshipping the Messiah of Israel.
These folks would fell more natural at an NDP quarters, or a communist Party parade. Infiltrated years ago by leftists.
They are no ore Christians than a Jimmy Swaggart or Jim Bakker.David Koresh ,or Jim Jones. Socialism is their God. Money now that they have destroyed any semblance of being Christian.
It will split with the socialist council’s taking absolute control as in what used to be the United Church, now the NDP on knees. The real Christians will find homes elsewhere.
Had a good post on this but it was trashed in the SDA dumpster. No foul or uncouth words. Not a whisper of banned words on here, just censorship. Why? No it wasn’t lost either.
Is free speech now forbidden on SDA?
The Presbyterian church since before the civil war, has has many schisms. There is the P(resbyterian) church in the United States, the P church in the USA, the United P church, and a black version. I haven’t been associated with this church in over 55 years. They are the coldest, most judgmental sect I could ever imagine. In the church I was raised in, the minister wanted to integrate the church. He invited some black Ps to come over and join us. About half the god fearing christian members walked out. I have never been in one of those churches since.
Thank you, Presbyterians! Time to add some more Caterpillar shares when the market opens Monday.
Exactly, Jim. If stupid people sell shares for stupid reasons, it makes an opportunity for smart people to buy them. Somewhere, Darwin is grinning.
RD…..try re-posting. I cannot speak for Kate or Lance, but in over 6 years I have not seen any censorship on this site. We have fights,we have agreements and disagreements. You are an idiot,I am an idiot, but as long as we keep it civil, not a problem. Maybe it just hasn’t appeared yet,and try the repost.
this is just one example of “churches” acting like a bunch of retarded lefties. There were 8 protestant denominations that petitioned the house not to cut entitlement programs, there are churches helping the illegals, the RC church is filthy with lefties, but there are some bible bangers that just can’t quite see this nonsense or they refuse to admit it exists, kinda like lefties.
It shows that a slim majority of American Presbyterians are Muslim loving Jew hating scumbags. What other message is there? America is quite comfortable doing jihad for their Muslim friends.
As a Christian(no pedestal here, I’m just a sinner), I think church’s shouldn’t own “stock”. And if a so called “christian” church wants to be biblical, it better be prepared to stand with the Hebrew.
I love Jesus, I just don’t hold a lot of respect towards most churches of the day. They just don’t seem to be what God intended. Stay humble and stay strong.
Tax them all, churches of any ilk should pay into the system like any other corporation.
Trust me I did in about 3 forms. Taking out any content that looked like it might not go threw the filter. It still went to the “we are checking” dumpster. Its Kates blog she can do whatever she wants. I would just like to know what was so offensive it got tossed?
Heck been on here as long as you almost.
RD, I always copy what I’ve written before I try to post. It does not happen often but uploads do fail. When you think of all the things that have to happen perfectly for your thoughts to end up on SDA it’s amazing how the failures are so few.
I think I once got into a moderator delay by criticizing people who were ragging on a Kennedy gal who came up over a picture of her shooting across a snowmobile in the Canadian north. The comment itself posted as normal and I was out of it after the next comment or two.
Is this really a surprise to anyone? They just voted to allow gay marriage Thurs.
Stephen Harper would call this a great buying opportunity.
And I agree.
RD, not sure why your earlier comment was identified as spam but I just released it!
Will the Presbyterians stop using all israeli sourced inventions?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Israeli_inventions_and_discoveries
*not a comprehensive list.
That’s a good point
Thanks (O:}
Well said Revnant @ 9:11, as was Jeol’s @ 10:53. These churches have left Christ and become Marxists at prayer meant to hoodwink people.
MICROSOFT OFFICE will backup your comments ……

Holy mackerel, the Presbyterian Church and Sunday School that I went to (and still belong to) wasn’t anything like that. We learned about true tolerance.
However, I have deep concerns about the route my church is going. A few years back the Moderator couldn’t resist the temptation to follow the disastrous route of his United Church brothers and sisters, and shot his mouth off in a Bad Israel/Good Palestine harangue. I wrote the Presbyterian Church at that time to say that if it ever followed the silly route of the UCC and made this nonsense part of its official position, myself and my family would no longer be Presbyterians.
I haven’t unpacked my bags.
I agree with Revnant Dream’s post at 9:11pm. Whenever you see a church doing this kind of thing, it’s been taken over by a bunch of Marxists at the leadership level.
This is exactly what happened to the United Church of Canada. Leadership is all in Toronto, some of the big churches like the one in Forest Hill are virtually Neo-Pagan drop-in centres and places for old ladies to do Tai Chi in the afternoon. They worship at the altar of Social Justice, NDPee style.
On the bright side, out here in the boondocks of Ontario the United Church congregations continue on as normal, completely ignoring the Toronto scuzzy freak show. On the not so bright side, the churches are full of 60+ year olds and are slowly going out of existence.
The churches that are well attended are new ones, steel buildings that got put up for a cheap price and that’s where the younger crowd seems to be going. I don’t hear much Social Justice coming out of them, more a kind of nutty Jesus-shouting that puffs people up and makes them all missionary and zealous.
Man, I hate that kind of thing.
Revnant Dream is exactly right about the buildings too. This IS why so many congregations split off in the 19th century, like the Shakers etc. They met in each other’s houses and little crappy meeting halls because the big Main Line churches were all about getting money for their building funds.
None of it has anything to do with Christianity, you ask me. I went Galt on that a loooooog time ago as a teenager.
I have often maintained that any church that rejects Israel also rejects Israel’s greatest contributions to the world, Jesus Christ and the Bible. I attended a Presbyterian Church USA here in Edmonton a few years back. They were more fundamentalist and fundamentally wrong than any Baptist or Mennonite Church I’ve ever attended. Some of their misdirected beliefs were down right scary.
Exactly how much money do the Presbyterians have? I am guessing it is fairly little. If not, why aren’t they using it to spread Christ’s message? I knew a lot of people hated Scotsmen. I didn’t know Scotsmen hated Jews.
The Anglicans in Canada are just as crazy as these guys. Every second word in their publications concern guilt about sending Indians to school as if they personally groped each and every one.
Desperately trying to keep the Israel/Palestinian thing in the spotlight. I suspect that there is a enough Syrians that would happily trade places right now with the Palestinians to live under the Israeli thumb
As a Papist I can only shake my head in bemused wonder at the path so many mainstream Protestant churches seem to want to go down these days. I have Presbyterian ancestors in my family tree; that high-pitched whine is probably them spinning in their graves at a high rate of rpm over this.
It’s as if these denominations were bound and determined to drive their parishioners away and into the arms of evangelical churches where the congregational life is wholly focussed on old-fashioned ideas like the, er, Gospel message.
