Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

They can still get the emails from the whitehouse and if they invoke executive privilege they’d be admitting Obama knew. This is probably the best possible news I’d say. You watch.
I’d bet my eye teeth that B. Hussien would say his hard drive crashed too.
Michael O’bama’s as well. Their supposed offspring that appear to share significant gene material with Scotty Pippin too.
Obumble’s approval rating was already historically low, this should help it go down even more. And just wait till the batteries of those Obubmbles phones die…..
The most openly and transparently corrupt administration ever.
Think of all those snivel servants in the executive branch of the IRS,EPA,FBI,ICE,DOJ fleeing to the failed state of California or Detroit. Of course Valerie Jarrett could arrange a compound for all of them, including Obama, in Iran.. She has the Hillary’s Reset Button!
I’m not an IT guy but I know that emails aren’t stored on the hard drive of the computer that sent them – they’re stored on the central email server that is backed up every night. That is how you can access your email account from any computer in the world while your home computer is offline and how you still have your old email if your computer crashes or is stolen. If you have a google address all your emails are on Google’s server somewhere but large organizations have their own server(s) that backup every night and often have mirror sites.
The subpoena should have been for all messages to or from Lerner that are stored on the email server(s) of the IRS not the electronic devices that Lerner used.
Most IT Servers in the 90’s used a RAID disk configuration, that means there are more than 3 copies “locally”. Very hard to erase all those copies of copies…
Unless a truly shocking number of fellow travelers positioned in multiple gov agencies are involved in the coverup, copies of Lerner’s emails still exist in a number of locations. The Obama admin at this point is being forced to rely on the reluctance of a Republican Establishment, which privately condones the suppression of Tea Party activity, to aggressively secure any extant paper trail, something that should have been done years ago by an experienced prosecutor working at the behest of a select committee.
It’s easy to see how this is going to play out. The Repub Est. will continue to huff and puff as a PR tactic for the coming election, but will not take any substantive action. Partisan sniping will continue through the next presidential campaign during which the Dems will claim that the matter is a manufactured scandal which has already been thoroughly investigated. After the 2016 election, no matter which party captures the White House, the new president will declare that the American People want the politicians in Washington to come together and work in a bipartisan way to solve the nation’s problems and that their would be no real purpose to continuing the investigation of IRS abuses wrt the TP.
I suggest everyone stock up on barf bags.
This is a pretty sloppy cover up, first it’s the “dog ate my homework” excuse, now it’s, “the dog ate my homework and then we had the dog put down and cremated… who are these clowns kidding? For a criminal organization the Obarry administration aren’t too smart are they… Who would’ve thought the mafia would be so incompetent and sloppy.
In addition to the copies of the emails cached on the desktop machines at both the sending and receiving ends, copies which may still be retrievable unless shredder software has been used, there are copies in legally required long-term archives, copies stored at remote sites for purposes of disaster recovery, incremental archival copies associated with one or more mail servers, full dump archival copies from the mail servers, copies from whatever clandestine data sweeping is being performed by the NSA and other cloak-and-dagger agencies as well as copies in records stored for future historians to peruse. There are probably also some copies kicking around in the possession of some private entities working under gov contract. It should be noted that every gov agency that Lerner sent an email to has its own set of archives and that, if she forwarded emails from others or included text from previous emails in order to provide context for a discussion thread, that it will be possible, with enough effort, to reconstruct large parts of her communications even without access to archives of her entire original messages.
Of course, everybody involved already knows all this which makes 99% of the public statements being made just political theater.
Emails are stored in at least these locations:
1) locally by the user
2) locally by the recipient
3) central server storage at user’s location (usually raid with offline back-up)
4) central server storage at recipient’s location (usually raid with off-line back-up)
5) any official intermediary’s server (usually raid with off-line back-up)
6) any official snooping server (like NSA, and these are really, really backed-up and written into stone)
It is just not possible to destroy a single hard drive and lose years worth of emails.
This is total and utter bullcrap.
Sorry, mean unofficial snooping server
Also, my list doesn’t include any archiving functions, as required by law.
“He says that the IRS uses Microsoft Outlook/Exchange systems, which are backed up using Symantec NetBackup”
This is an extremely robust system. The only way the emails are not on IRS backup servers, is if they were deleted off the local computers before the close of business the same day. The only way for them to be off the backup up network is for someone to have deliberately killed the backup files or selectively edited them – not a casual, simple process.
The last resort of a criminal government is to destroy the truth, loot the treasury then seek refuge. Obumbles is at stage 3.
Must be a Democratic/Liberal thing, Ontario Liberals know a thing or two about destroying evidence with their email scandal. Never seems to affect their ability to get re-elected, only conservatives are expected to be squeaky clean.
What was in the emails and when did you know they had to disappear?
When the bureaucrats behave with this level of contempt for their host, it is officially a Kleptocracy.
Time to reinforce the obvious, government is a farce, a morality play put on by paid actors.
The purpose of which is to persuade the LIV that civilization is real and tribal banditry is not rewarded.
As such punishment of actors transgressing against civilization, the script, must be overt and dramatic.
The Obamination Team must be held accountable.
Ontario must be cut off from access to the ROC dollars.
Or civil society falls.
As the message to those who are the “bones” of our civic structure, is “You are meat”.
Your property is ours to take, Your labour is ours to waste.
Pissing away taxpayers wealth is “an investment” by klepto standards.
Problem? Soon there will be no wealth to steal.
Only uneducated low-info liberal voters would believe your emails are stored on your PC.
What did the President know and when did he know it?
“what does it matter now?”
“im peach ment”
And why was Nixon about to be impeached, because of a few minutes of missing tape?
Repeat after me:
RAID is NOT backup.
RAID is NOT backup.
RAID is NOT backup.
Also backup is not an archive. Backup is intended to restore a system and its data to its current state, or to a recent one, and not necessarily to one from two years ago. If you need that, you need to make different provisions.
That being said, I’m still appalled that we’re being told that an organization such as the IRS has no provision in place for archiving the e-mails that flow through its organization. And this is the same organization that still wants you to produce that receipt for $15.95 from 5 years ago.
Inveterate and unmitigated LIARS, if somebody did destroy the hard drives they will be in violation of federal statute, and should be going to JAIL.

U.S. Code › Title 44 › Chapter 31 › § 3103
44 U.S. Code § 3103 – Transfer of records to records centers
“When the head of a Federal agency determines that such action may affect substantial economies or increased operating efficiency, he shall provide for the transfer of records to a records center maintained and operated by the Archivist, or, when approved by the Archivist, to a center maintained and operated by the head of the Federal agency.”
They will be warming up an nice spot down at the crowbar hotel aka Federal Penitentiary.
The “Obama-Nation(tm)” is now a noted criminal enterprise; maybe they should get a RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act) indictment ready…

I smell Obama blood in the water.
The USA now has a bigger crisis on its hands. Thanks to Obama again. I’ve been warning about his for years. As for the IRS & Ontario with missing hard drives & e-mails I guess corruption has become the new fashion of the day. No one seems to care any more who is stealing what. Nope not even the government agency that is supposed to be a tax organization, but is now apolitical gun to bully all folks who don’t meet Government standers politically.
Putin Advisor Proposes “Anti-Dollar Alliance” To Halt US Aggression Abroad
Glazyev’s set of countermeasures specifically targets the core strength of the US war machine, i.e. the Fed’s printing press. Putin’s advisor proposes the creation of a “broad anti-dollar alliance” of countries willing and able to drop the dollar from their international trade. Members of the alliance would also refrain from keeping the currency reserves in dollar-denominated instruments. Glazyev advocates treating positions in dollar-denominated instruments like holdings of junk securities and believes that regulators should require full collateralization of such holdings. An anti-dollar coalition would be the first step for the creation of an anti-war coalition that can help stop the US’ aggression.

“RAID is NOT backup.”
No, it is redundancy, an array of disks to provide a local “backup” in case of a failure of one of the disks so that data is not lost in the way the IRS said it lost the data.
Backup is redundancy, it is a separate place to get the data if the primary place fails. Often out of date and not as good as RAID, but it is there.
The real crime here is that 6 of these hard drives “crashed” after being subpoenaed, independently.
I’m an IT manager who has been personally responsible for mail server clusters at least the size of Lerner’s IRS office’s, and yes, it is entirely plausible that email from two and half years ago could have gone completely missing in its entirety due to a single desktop drive crash or recycling. Many large private corporations have rules about minimizing the retention time of email on the servers precisely to ensure there’s limited amounts of data available should a subpoena come a-calling. And I assure you that restoring an Exchange cluster from backups is sufficiently complex and difficult that it’s an even bet that a) no one in the IRS IT department has done it before and b) no one in the IRS IT department knows how to do it in the first place.
The real scandal here isn’t the crime, it’s the coverup. It’s entirely plausible that ancient emails could go missing, given the way corporate email systems are actually run in the real world. That the systems have been architected and managed so as to make that loss possible is, I would argue, just as damaging as the targeting scandal because for the IRS there is simply no acceptable or legal excuse for being criminally negligent with their records management.
Why doesn’t someone just call the Chinese and ask for a copy?
Not only that, but by going by the statements. They were able to rebuild those RAID array’s but just not those particular emails…never mind that…
I realize the headline is a quote (Nixon, I think?), but it really should be changed to “When a Democratic President does it, that means that it is not illegal.”
Corporations are not obliged to archive, gov’t departments are – a rather vast difference.
Issa should start lining up IT techs at the IRS for testimony – it is rather unlikely that all of them have been paid enough or promised enough to overcome the pressure that can be applied on them for the truth. Many IT techs keep private copies of such requests, for their own protection when the shit hits the fan.
Someone will squeal, it only takes one…..
Eli, It is obvious that some or most IT folks think that you need the Hard Dive to recover the Email “Encryption Key”..NOPE.
