Russia is secretly working with environmental groups campaigning against fracking in an attempt to maintain Europe’s dependence on energy imports from Moscow, the secretary-general of Nato has said.
Speaking at the Chatham House foreign affairs think-tank in London, Anders Fogh Rasmussen said Russia was mounting a sophisticated disinformation campaign aimed at undermining attempts to exploit alternative energy sources such as shale gas.
Our governments and officials lie as much as theirs do. So yes someone is running a disinformation campaign. The trick is to find out who. Finding the real truth about anything has become increasingly difficult as the corruption of the western media is complete.
Russia has always been behind environmental groups, this is not news.
The huge CND(Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament) movement that existed during Margret Thatcher’s tenure as PM smoothly pivoted into the movement against CAGW and it’s leaders have always gotten their marching orders from Moscow.

And our politicians are either too dumb to figure this out or have their own reasons for ignoring this. Greg G – an interesting datum concerning the Bakken play in the Torquay formation is its depth – 300 m at its shallowest, 2400 m at its deepest. At 300 m. the oil could presumable be obtained by strip mining the source rock. ( Open pit mines are worked currently at 1100+ meters depth. ) Recovery presumably would be much higher via strip mining methods vs. fracing, I wonder how costs would scale.
I sent a letter to every MLA in B.C. expressing my support for Northern Gateway and urged those on my contact list to do likewise. But I inadvertently sent it to a dear but misguided friend who embodies everything you’d imagine a committed ‘social justice/environmentalist/socialist/union affiliated’ individual to be.
She quite angrily asked that she be removed from my list, claiming ‘she’d be there in the mud’ to stop it. I had pointed out that health care and education required the economic activity generated by industry and her retort was that it was like supporting smoking in order to buy respiratory medical equipment. She’s a nurse and obviously emotively driven and not a deep thinker.
I’d love to send her stuff illustrating that she is not only being used by others(since an oil economy underpins our standard of living), but that there are thus far no alternatives known to man. She’d refuse to recognize that despite the vast amounts of highly subsidized wind and solar projects world wide, ‘sustainable’ energy has made no inroads in terms of percentage of total energy output.
Nor can wind/solar ever create the tens of thousands of products which are oil/carbon based.
But based on my experience, such people would rather stick their fingers in their ears and scream “la la la” than have a conversation with those whose understanding is contrary to their own.

What Russia is doing would be considered illegal, an anti-trust action, if corporations within our own countries tried to eliminate completion that way. Microsoft being sanctioned for similar activities in the ’90s comes to mind.
