France’s far-Right Front National was on course for an historic victory in European elections on Sunday night, coming top in a national election for the first time in its 42-year history in a score it said represented a “massive rejection” of the EU.
I’m guessing that “far right” means in France what it means pretty much everywhere else they sell newspapers.
Mr Valls, the Socialist prime minister, described the result as a “very grave moment for France and Europe”.
Yes, so it would seem.

As pointed out even so called, conservative newspapers such as the Daily Telegraph, use the term Far Right (with occasional mention of Neo-Nazi for added spice) when discussing anything that is even slightly right of the centre. And let’s face it the centre is now pretty left anyway.
Want Britain to stay British? You must be Far Right. Don’t like the fact that London is over 50% non-white? You must be a racist. Don’t like that almost 30% of Londoners are foreign born. Clearly you are a xenophobe.
Want France to stay French? You must be Right Wing Extremist. A bit perturbed that over 10% of France is Muslim and whole Paris streets are taken over on on Fridays for prayer. You are a hate monger and Islamaphobe.
And there there is the bonus smear. A few thousand Neo-Nazi nutters are somehow conflated with anything conservatives. See! See! they are all Nazis at heart.
And this, from the conservative Daily Telegraph. The Independent and Guardian (a.k.a Grauniad) see far worse in anything other than complete cultural capitulation.
from the Da Vinci Files:
“You can’t trust the French!”
I guess Allied troops landing a Normandy was also a “very grave moment for France and Europe”, hopefully with equally liberating results.
UKIP and Nigel Farage want nothing to do with Holocaust denying Marine Le Pen. Le Pen’s party is composed of people who buy into “Your problems are caused by Jews”.
France has a few hundred thousand Jews, but LePen tippy toes around the Islam question. She calls it, “The immigration issue”. France has 5 million Muslims. The entire French establishment doesn’t get it.
The surprising vote was in Holland where Geert Wilder’s party came in with 13%. That only means that Holland is screwed.
I want France to stay French. I don’t care as much as I did when I lived in England and was much more likely to visit France, but I hated (still do hate) the EU because it wants to make everything the same for the convenience of the bureaucracy.
Whenever these government-loving, bureaucrat-loving, left-wing commies are threatened they say it is a “very grave moment”.
You can basically split society two ways: those who enjoy freedom, and those who want the government telling everyone what to do, except of course themselves.
Those who enjoy freedom are always labelled far right wing, no matter who they are.
Here’s Tony Blair:
“Of course we should be worried when a party like Ukip comes first in the European election, it would be foolish not to be. But on the other hand we also have to stand for what is correct and right for the future of Britain in the 21st century.”
Yes, heaven forbid the people should have spoken. He always was an asshole.
Some years ago I was in France at election time when LePens father came second in the first round of the French national elections deposing the socialist. Everybody who thought they were anybody professed surprise. They were in the same bubble then that they were this time.
Having read the UKIP manifesto, there’s nothing in there I would absolutely disagree with. I’d term it a moderately conservative, middle of the road platform. Hardly the spawn of Satan, these UKIP folks.
“…Hardly the spawn of Satan, these UKIP folks.”
That’s why the real spawn of Satan keep saying the UKIP is the spawn of Satan.
The party platform of Front National is readily available online. They are mainly socialist. For example, they want to nationalize all the banks. But they want to partially withdraw from the EU, so they are lumped in with neo-Nazis.
A “very grave moment for” SOCIALISTS in “France and Europe”. There, that’s better.
Does that mean Front National is a National Socialist Party?
And all Socialist Parties are enemies of individual freedom. I lump socialists in with the mass-murdering communists. They just haven’t had the power to get their remaking society (killing) done, YET.
Starting in 1732 my forebears left Euroland and I can only thank my lucky stars. The Americans were smart enough to throw the British out in the 1780’s and Canada should have done the same. As much as I can admire the judiciary and democratic government the Brits gave us I detest their inability to govern themselves and their inability to live peacefully among themselves.
A misguided loyalty to Britain bled Canada of her best youth in WW I. A war based on imperialistic protectionism of a newly united Germany. Canada had no interest in that war, neither did the USA. North America refusing to go would have forced a reconciliation which would have prevented WW II.
In the investment world they talk about ‘Black Swan’ events. Events that are not anticipated but when they happen cause global reaction. What is happening to the EU is a gradual disintegration economically and politically. Movements like Le Pen’s are systems of the reassessment being done by many Euros. The basis for these movements is not nationalism as suggested it is financial. Most EU countries are broke and unemployment skyrocketing. When the true extent of their financial reality sinks home the true crisis will escalate, probably out of control. It will happen the question might be whether the Japanese will beat them to it.
Did you see the EC polls for the right in Spain & Greece? they know where there beef is hanging…
😉
Quite so. But it demonstrates how far left the statist bureaucratic elites have gone. When even moderately “not left” is considered widely right wing.
Of course, these elites are simply the new aristocracy.
Interesting, Sinn Fein wins in N.Ireland.

Lets hope UKIP stays on course now that they have power.
My take on it is a little like my take on the mayor of Toronto. Sure hes a mess, but compared to what the alternatives are…
LePan and her party are a bunch of anti-market nationalists that want more protectionism and state interventionism. They are socialists who blame the failures of socialism on foreign people. Alas UKIP seems headed in this direction.
Don’t like the fact that London is over 50% non-white? You must be a racist. Don’t like that almost 30% of Londoners are foreign born. Clearly you are a xenophobe.
Those sound like excellent examples of racism and xenophobia no doubt.
Just Truth,
YOU are wrong. Wanting one’s country to look after it’s native population is not racist, it’s essential to a well functioning democracy. I have never read UKIP manifesto’s where the banning of ALL immigration is a policy goal. UK citizens have been lied to repeatedly by LibLabCon over immigration, as have Americans. We’re sick to death of foreigners having more rights than we do, and THEN being expected to pay for our own disenfranchisement.
It is not the government’s job to ‘take care’ of anybody.
We’re sick to death of foreigners having more rights than we do
You’re sick of a fantasy scenario.
UK citizens have been lied to repeatedly by LibLabCon over immigration, as have Americans.
Yes. We’ve all been told for years that ‘DEY TERK R JERBS’ and that immigration is somehow going to lead to ‘blood in the streets’ (the last one courtesy of serial liar Enoch Powell). In reality, immigrants in NA are assimilating just fine and actually generate jobs and wealth.
