  8. On one hand they want to be independent from us and make their own decisions but on the other we’re supposed to show up and check their water treatment plants to ensure they have potable water. They are supposed to be getting an education here so why can’t they see their own inconsistencies? There is no way to reason with someone who is so blind to their own faults or so unwilling to take any responsibility for themselves.

    It’s time to take the native population off the tax payer teat and have them grow up and take responsibility for themselves. That is the problem … the Indians have no pride, low self-esteem and not much ambition. If they were making their own lives, they would suddenly be proud of them selves, their self esteem would rise and they would realize how far even a little ambition can get you.
    In short, it’s time for the Canadian Native Indian to join the great society that is keeping them in an apartheid situation where they are in the government hand out trap. They need to be kept busy making their lives … like the rest of us.

The university throws under a bus a group of young people who just for the fun of an evening party dress up like a Hollywood version of cowboys and Indians but this bunch of bullies demand that they and only they have a right to speak at a public event and the consequence, the university president who hung the students out to dry and orders them take sensitivity classes phones to apologize to Gormley. Its these idiots who need to be dragged before John and ordered to apologize and then ordered to take a course on civility and respect.
    Who were the civilized ones last night, it’s pretty obvious. My respect to John for his self control.

    OMMAG – Yes, Regina has hired someone as “Executive Lead for Indigenization” and made that their top priority in their academic plan. If there are any serious students at U of R (and I didn’t see any in the part of that video I could bear), they need to get out now.
    River Rat – I didn’t they wanted non-aboriginals looking after their water treatment systems; rather they want to be compensated when they mismanage or damage the water treatment systems that the government has provided.

If we closed down the majors this type is studying and we eliminated the minimum wage and reduced unemployment insurance, just think of the competition for low skilled jobs. We could compete with China and India. Canada could become a major supplier of manufactured goods again, because I don;t think this one is even capable of flipping burgers without sliding into the fry vat. sarc/
    I didn’t hang around with Liberal Arts students in university. Found the naivety too maddening. But this is far beyond what I witnessed. Is this young woman the product of too many recreational drugs? Does anyone know what see was talking about?

  34. I lasted for 35 minutes and then had the overwhelming urge to open a vein. How Gormley resisted the urge to strangle someone is beyond me. A whole class of victims blaming all their problems on the evil white man without even contemplating that they might be at fault for their own problems. Takes a good man to put up with that crap for a full hour. Wonder what all those students want to be when (if) they grow up. Whatever it is you can rest assured it will need taxpayer support.

Any notion I once had that we live in a society where civility matters was quickly ripped to threads. “The Barbarians Are Inside the Gates” would be quite apropos to describe the majority of opinions there. 🙁

  36. Someone like that couldn’t survive in the 300 year old world of his ancestors. No, they live in the world of endless renegotiation of their mercurial treaties. There is a huge Indian industry involving lawyers (white pimps) willing to continually push the grievance and entitlement envelope.
    About 22 years ago, I represented a forest company (my employer) on Vancouver Island involved in a multi-sectoral, NDP-indspired land use circle-jerk. An Indian similar to this (representing only himself) would take the floor periodically and rant for a hour or so. The process people who facilitated the meetings wouldn’t say anything. I would always get up and leave the room, usually unaccompanied by my more politically correct colleagues. One time, during a break the renegade Indian approached me and talked to me quite cordially. I got the impression that I was the only person in the room for whom he had any respect.

Then give them 5 years to get a trade or education. After that they’re on their own. Those over 40 are too entrenched to cut loose so let them ride out the old system. He thought I was too harsh.

  39. I figure we should offer every young Indian between the ages of 18 and 25 a one-time payment of $250,000 on the condition that, upon acceptance, they sign away their treaty status for ever.
    In the long run it would be a hell of a lot cheaper. The smart, able ones will survive and contribute, the others won’t do either. It might take several generations, but eventually it would put an end to all this BS.

That’s a recipe for all kinds of abusive behaviour which would lead to taxpayer support in rehab or prison. They need to take responsibility for their own lives and work towards a goal in order to feel fulfilled.

Mommy Indian doesn’t get up in the morning, prepare breakfast for the clan, and see the children off to school while the Daddy(most of the children are from different Daddies and are only half siblings) goes off to work. They all get up when they feel like it, if they’re even home, because they’re on ‘Indian Time’. The children may or may not show up for schooling and Daddy Indian likely does not have a job because if someone hires him his attendance is sporadic too.
    They do not have a nuclear family and a schedule with goals in life.
    They are dysfunctional and have never seen what a functional life looks like.
    Their last best hope was the residential school system which gave the children a schedule with 3 meals/day and schooling.
    Politically it is an avenue which is DEAD to them forever now because they demonized the residential school system as the sexual abuse equivalent of Auschwitz for short term monetary gain.
    I don’t care what happens to them but this wanton harassment, threatening, and interfering with productive society has to stop.

    The Natives would have you believe that they wish for a return to the “old days”…I say lets give it to them.! Indian act dead and gone. No payout, you get what land and homes you live on. You get all the rights and priviliges of all other Candians including the obligation to pay taxes. You also get a Canadian Passport. Dont like the deal…then feel free to piss off to Iran.

    What did the First Nation leaders have to say? Did they think his actions were normal and acceptable? I hope they excuse him as being drunk and least of all as a normal person and someone they are proud of.
    What an example for their children and they thought residential school’s harmed their children.
