  1. Rush Limbaugh could’ve given him some tips on how to use and still have your fat face sucking air in the morning.

  2. Paid obscene amounts of money to play wmake believe in front of a camera in order to prove Darwin correct.

  3. ” recently spent time in rehab due to an escalating addiction to painkillers that ended in his snorting heroin ”
Huh, there is no mention of any debilitating injury or disease that would require painkillers.
So, IMHO, cough syrup wasn’t getting him where he wanted to be, so smack me off my horse, but it sounds like he enjoyed getting high, messed up and died.
Honourary pallbearers will include Joan Crawford,Joan Kennedy, Joan Jett, and Joan Baez, with a special appearance by Amy Winehouse.
Amy was originally reluctant to appear because she was just another junkie when she started her dirt nap, but realizes that the show must go on.

  4. Looks like Bloomburg is gonna need to hunt up another Hollywood junkie for his anti-gun commercials

  5. I guess hard drugs is the admission fee to join the “in” crowd in Hollywood. You have to be stoned to use that new superiority complex so you can lecture the working class on the evils of capitalism and global warming, while you leave a carbon footprint the size of New York. To swear allegiance to the great one and anything that leans far left while vilifying capitalism and the evils of anything Republican. Going for any length of time without a fix or snort could sober you up to the point where you realize you are surrounded by fake, shallow, egotistical, hypocritical, uneducated, brainwashed fools who have lost any notion of what a normal life should be and seem bent on pushing a socialist agenda that cost over 100 million lives during the last century. That’s the in crowd, and your membership is like a union that will keep you employed as long as you toe the line and don’t rock the boat. Takes a lot of hard drugs to live in a alternate universe where adoring fans hang on to your every word but success means selling your soul to your union and the possibility of getting that next shot of starring on the silver screen. After a while you’re just not you anymore and a snickers bar can’t help you, but drugs can. I’m not a shrink but I played one once on TV and that’s my take on Hollywood. PS…Clint Eastwood never joined the union.

  6. What’s the difference between dying with a needle in your arm and smoking crack. Apparantly your loved if you’re a hollywood leftist.

  7. Sad for his family. Thought he was good actor. One movie of Hoffmans I enjoyed, although quite depressing was a movie titled, “Love Liza”. Essentially it is the story of man who turns to sniffing gasoline soaked rags to escape from the grim reality of his wifes suicide. She leaves a suicide note that Hoffmans character refuses to read until the end of the movie. Hoffmans portrayal was very good, and very real. RIP.

  8. Don’t think I’ve ever seen him in a movie, but then I watch very few movies. It’s somewhat hypocritical for such an individual to use heroin but support an anti-constitutional program against the second amendment.
As a Libertarian, my view is that he has the right to use whatever drugs he wants but should keep his mouth shut when it comes to the rights of other people to keep and bear arms. What I expect will happen now, that various medical authorities have decided that functionality is no longer a reason for people to be on prescription opiates, is that heroin overdose deaths are going to skyrocket.
In BC we’re being told that no-one should be on more than the equivalent of 200 mg of morphine daily. An asinine policy that seems oblivious to biochemical individuality. Was speaking with a colleague today and he remembered a very functional patient of his who was on 2 gm of morphine daily. Now, she’d be reduced to buying heroin of unknown purity and composition on the street as the BC college of physicians would come down hard on any physician who dared to disagree with their new rules.
My personal view is that heroin is just a more potent form of morphine which is a rather sedating opiate. Most people function best on oxycodone which seems to have intrinsic stimulant effects. That is the best and also the worst thing about oxycodone as, with morphine, people are too sedated to function if they up the dose on their own whereas with oxycodone they function just fine on the higher dose. People who have no use for opiates likely have very robust endorphin and enkephalin systems in their brains. Given the heterogeneity in the mu opiate receptor, it’s no wonder why some people need opiates to function whereas the majority of people find this very puzzling. Similar heterogeneity exists in the endocannabinoid receptors and the most abused cannabinoid in N. America now is linoleic acid which is converted by the body to arachidonic acid and thencefrom to anandamide, the brains own THC. There’s interesting evidence now that the increase in linoleic acid from 1% of dietary fat to 8% of dietary fat is the primary driving force for the epidemic of morbid obesity which N. America is currently experiencing. Treatment for this widespread endocannabinoid abuse consists of avoiding processed food, using olive oil for cooking and taking fish oil which partially blocks anandamide and inflammatory prostaglandin synthesis. In comparison to heroin, junk food is a far more lethal drug.

  9. This list is not at all complete, e.g. Brian Jones and John Bonham are missing.
But what’s your point, that only left wing celebrities are druggies?
In any case, who cares? What can’t we just leave it with the fact that a great actor is dead, and sympathise with his family and friends?

  10. “can’t we just leave it with the fact that a great actor is dead, and sympathise with his family and friends?”
That is to say nothing should be learned from history. Next it will be your loved one whose tragic passing we’re grieving.

  11. please Johan, have consideration for the kristians who are expressing their kristianity
as to clown who offed hisself, never herd(multiples in a single cell) of him before, so to me just another hollyweird Joo, and Obumbles supporter, who offed himself, no skin off my nu…….

  12. I can’t share the delight many here seem to feel for Hoffman’s death. I’m a recovering alcoholic, and I know full well his story could be mine very easily – with a perfectly legal drug, I might add. Every few weeks at a meeting, someone shares a story about a friend or relative found dead in a snowbank, or an apartment, or somewhere, with empty booze bottles littered around. We understand “there but for the grace of God”, and while I’m not one to toss religion in anyone’s face, there was, I believe, an admonition to “hate the sin, but love the sinner” which seems conspicuously absent today.
I don’t agree with those who would overturn the US’s 2nd Amendment, but aren’t most of the arguments here the same type of ad hominem attacks we decry in lefties? Don’t we correctly deride them for arguing (for example) “He drives a car, how can you listen to what he says about climate change?”, or “You’re against the minimum wage hike because you’re rich.”? I wasn’t about to take the opinion of a middle-of-the-road actor on anything, anyway, but let’s at least be consistent in the level of argument we expect from the left, and the level we present ourselves.

  13. …Oh, here we go again. Praise heaped on someone who overdoses themselves out. Lest we forget that THIS guy, a drug addict, however talented he may have been (and he was enormously talented), had the AUDACITY to presume himself qualified to tell me how to live, what to believe??
He was an actor, someone who gets paid (often obscene sums) to pretend to be someone they are not. The more convincing they are, the more money they make.
This leads to the question of how much Hoffman was going to be paid to narrate Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns propaganda? Obviously, we was in agreement with the project or he wouldn’t have agreed to it.
I am sorry for his loved ones who could not control him and now suffer. Otherwise, I have no sympathy. What he did he did of his own volition. On the up side, there’s one less drug addict out there who thinks I shouldn’t have guns.

  14. When I see a heroin overdoes take out a Hollywood/New York show multi millionaire who oh-so troubled .. poor thing …. I get the same feeling as I do when I see muslims killing muslims for incomprehensible reasons.
So the motto for Bloomies anti gun ad from Hoffman should state …
“Don’t use guns … use heroin” because that is the example we just got from the dead actor.

  15. “I thought he was an excellent actor – i’m sorry to see this foolishness destroy him.”
    Yes.

  16. “… his story could be mine very easily”
Well, only if, for example, you had joined a campaign to close hospitals because so many people die there.
Glad to hear of your success; keep looking up!

  17. In comparison to heroin, junk food is a far more lethal drug. Loki
Not if the heroin user is DUI.
And don’t start me on all those murders perpetrated on innocent people by drug gangs.

  18. dj in da US >
“On the up side, there’s one less drug addict out there who thinks I shouldn’t have guns.”
Jeeze that brought a tear to my eye. Nicely put.

  19. Why stupid? Professional competence is no excuse for immorality. Just one more
“celebrity” with too much money and too few internal standards.
Who’s next? There must be a bookmaker somewhere who takes bets on these things.
