  1. Ace (http://ace.mu.nu) has the most concise assessment of Rob Ford, and the blatant bias of the media. As it is nearly 2 months since word got out, it’s a good time for it. Here’s a snip:
“…he’s a successful conservative whose policy decisions have improved the quality of life for Toronto’s citizens. So naturally the liberals want to see him destroyed.”
When I say bias, I simply mean over-reporting on issues the media wants you to know; and under-reporting – or not reporting at all – on issues they’d rather you not know. There are certainly examples of pure bias – I like this politician, not that one. But it is not as prevalent.
Here’s my take on the whole scenario, which I see as glass half full.
Half-empty: Rob has made it more difficult to get re-elected, and hence a lot easier for a communist to get elected. If the left makes its payoffs, and only runs one candidate for mayor next year, whoever it is will be tough to beat, as many Ford supporters will stay home or switch sides.
Half-full: The Media, especially the Toronto Media, has lost a TON of credibility in the past three years, especially the last 2 months. I sense more people will ignore them, or deliberately vote against their wishes because of their bias.
There was a lot of chatter about Ford at the Christmas table; surprising to me was that most of it was neutral or positive. People are tired of hearing about him. One [liberal] complained: why hasn’t he been arrested? Uh, the Chief of Police broke the story, dummy. And I then asked him if he knew of anyone who was mayor of a Canadian city recently, who HAS been arrested, or a provincial premier whose office was recently searched due to a warrant. Sadly, and unsurprisingly, he was not.
2013 was a crap year for many, I am not sorry to see it go. I do look forward to 2014.

  2. I agree peterj, Black or white….it’s still human garbage. So this guy thinks he’s proving a point by videoing himself knocking out a SEVENTY NINE year old? And there’s people out there nodding their heads in approval? Point NOT proven.

If the media is in your pocket, you can do no wrong.

“Climate-Science Boatpeople, In Search Of Global Warming Signs, Trapped In Thousands Of Kilometers Of Sea Ice!”
“The metaphor just couldn’t be more fitting: desperate true believers of global warming and accelerating polar ice melt now find themselves trapped by thousands of square kilometers of summertime sea ice that wasn’t supposed to be there.
No picture could better symbolize and communicate the intellectual bankruptcy and disillusionment of a faithful group who refuse to believe they have been led astray. This has to be deeply embarrassing, if not outright humiliating.
It’s reported here that many of the climate science boatpeople are actually from renowned media outlets, like The Guardian, who we can safely assume were onboard hoping to capture dramatic images of vast areas of open sea water, or of calving ice sheets with hundreds of tons of ice breaking off and plunging into the sea hourly. And with a little luck, maybe even some photos of a couple of drowned penguins.”
