I hope the Star is included in the counter-suit for continually harrassing Ford at his home. Sounds like it’s all a plan to sell papers. I don’t think Ford called the dickhead a pedophile. All he questioned was why somebody would be taking pictures that to Ford appeared to have possibly been of his family. Then the dickhead put in the P word all by himself.
A person has 2 weeks upon which to launch a libel suit, meaning as soon as they were made aware of a libel. I have read what the Mayor said, I understand the circumstances the had the reporter near the Mayor’s back fence, and other reported things that have happened. I will not repeat anything that might be in the lawsuit, but the level of proof is truth. In looking at the statements made by the Mayor, he leaves much to the imagination as he never utters the word, that the CBC tried to say he meant or almost said, or made others think. As of now, this is not the standard for libel, but in the Mayor’s experience, he should suspect that new law will be made upon his back by the judiciary in Toronto that hates him.
Sounds like a situation of I said-he said with no real proof either way but if he calls himself non confrontational yet works for the Star that seems a little contridictory.
As to the issue of conflict of interest for the reporter to stay on the beat –
It’s a close call. You’d normally say without hesitation that a reporter actively suing a politician ought not be reporting on that politician.
But in these circumstances, you risk handing the politicians a free and automatic way to unilaterally ban any reporter who is making things stressful for the politician. Just say awful, borderline-libelous things about the reporter and then sit back.
I don’t like any current politicians enough to hand them that power.
“I had no camera, just a phone with a camera function.”
O-tay.
Well he sure looks like a pedo to me.
And the only thing lower than a child molester is a journalist!
“I’m fortunate to work for an employer willing to go bat for its employees, and the Star will be covering my costs”
The editors left out “-shit crazy” in that kooky sentence.
Yeah they sure picked the wrong file photo for that article.
just ask terry mew-les-q about being “re-assigned”
What a thin skinned weenie. They love to dish it out but sure can’t take it. He works for the Star and he thinks he’s a journalist. What a fool.
Amazing a Presstitute stating he will take the high road.
Given his reporting and stalking of Ford& family, does he have any idea how to find it?
What a sanctimonious thin skinned twerp.
Small wonder the Star will be issuing even more pink slips in the new year.
Apparently his senses are so sharp, he can hear words that were left unsaid.
Then sues for damages from these unspoken words.
Must expect service in a different court than the rest of us suffer.
Burden of proof not required?
Sorry Kate, I with the reporter on this one. I used to defend Ford. No longer.
Sean, he has not denied hanging around peeking into the Ford’s backyard when the kids were outside. He was deliberately harrassing the family at the behest of his employer to continue the vendetta. If some perv was peeking over my fence when the kids were playing in the back I would confront and accuse that person too.
Litigation is expensive, is the Toronto Star paying his legal expenses?
“I’m an exceptionally even-keeled person”
At least the guy is a run-of-the-mill pinko half-wit – he thinks he is normal. The idiot is taking pictures in someone’s back yard and doesn’t recognize that society might have a problem with that. Oh, but he’s normal – the other guys have the problem. Funny how a lot of guys serving indeterminate sentences as guests of the Queen think the same thing.
If I were Dale, I would get that in writing.
I don’t see any way he would win. Dale has said that Ford didn’t use the actual term in question. The Toronto Star is despicable.
Well, the prospects of an actual, legitimate finding of defamation against Ford are negligible. The guy was behaving in the same manner as pedophiles notoriously behave, and to point that out is fair comment, not to mention simple truth.
Of course, there’s no shortage of judges in Toronto who would cheerfully pull out all the stops to nail Rob Ford on any pretext, or none. So, the question is whether the fix is in on this one?
Hi cretins.
Just a token progressive looking for a fix of outrage, now that Steve Taylor’s site has gone silent, as he preps for a run at Parliament.
(a favour – Dear Leader Harper is a competent storekeeper, sure, but can anyone here point to anything positive or constructive achieved by any conservative government in the last 5 years? It seems a conservative’s life is restricted to simply finding people and things to sh!t on, if this blog is any example)
Why is reality so abhorrent? Dale did not take pictures of Ford’s yard or his kiddies, this has been proven by the fact that there were NO such photos on his phone which Ford got from him and police examined. And Ford’s own security camera recordings support Dale’s version.
A lawyer who was one of the SUN’s media lawyers for several years (and still does commentary for them) was on CBC yesterday stating that Dale has a SOLID libel case against Ford, and hizonner’s only real chance of getting off the hook is to actually, you know, apologize. Would someone tell Ford what this word actually means?
Jesus – cut your losses, folks. Abandon Ford to his fate and let’s move on. Surely there is one other conservative in Toronto who has more political smarts and doesn’t come off like a fired bouncer.
Merry Christmas or whatever. Give yourself a treat – abandon these blogs for a couple of weeks, Don’t watch SUN, look up a friend you’ve lost touch with, spend real time with family, and try to imagine how occasionally thinking about others and making the world a better place is really not something to sh!t on.
OK, so you don’t like Harper or Ford, you watch CBC, and believe the opinion of one lawyer. On CBC yet. Such a short time Ford has left the throne and already taxes are spiking and the mental midgets on council are returning to the glory days of tax and spend with the old familiar disdain for taxpayers money. I will predict that when the next election rolls around , Ford will be re-elected by a comfortable margin. Faults and all (yes, he has many) he is still the best manager the city has had in decades. The only one shit*ing on Ford are the ones that hate him and anyway , it’s still too early to get into the Christmas spirit, and making the world a better place is not my mission in life. Merry Christmas (or whatever) to you too.
He’s a terrible manager. Late to work, abusive, and deeply flawed.
the “tax spikes” you’re seeing now at city hall are from the Rob Ford BS blanket being rolled back to reveal the emptiness of his one-note policy. Any idiot can make cuts. You or I could easily chop our household budget by 15%. By doing 15% less stuff. Such as not replacing that roof or fixing your driveway. In Toronto’s case, Ford has simply pushed necessary and planned work forward in time, to where the next mayor will have to deal with it… or someone higher up will have to force Ford to act responsibly, in which case Ford Nation will of course blame the grownups who had to step in to clean it up.
The “war against cars” – What has he done to make traffic better in Toronto? Zilch.
Ford has never explained how he’d fund the subway he so adamantly desires, over the more affordable LRT solution. That’s responsible?
The 2015 Pan-Am games are looming. Any real or imagined savings from the last couple of years of Ford’s reign will evaporate like water on a stove in order to make Toronto presentable, and to complete the stuff we shelved for 3 years while Ford overstayed his 15 min in the spotlight.
Cut your losses, or the conservatives will wear Ford like an albatross. Only Kenney’s had the cojones to call it for what it is.
This answers the unasked question. What does the Toronto Star report if no one issues a press release that day?
Sadly ironic that after all of Ford’s empty threats to bring suit for libel it winds up being the maggots that sue him.
A CBC poll that needs your help.

Of course that’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it. I disagree and the voters will have the final say. The Pan Am Games are Wynne’s puppy by the way. Another politician that has no concept of reality, which is fairly standard for all Liberals.
