  1. “Remember that movie Invictus? The one where Morgan Freeman played Mandela?”
Yes, good movie,AND if that really WAS Nelson Mandela, what a great man he truly was!
But that was just an actor,a onetime character on Sesame Street, although he’s done some great work,”Shawshank”, “Unforgiven”,”Driving Jessica Tandy”,etc.
Hollywood should do a movie about some of the great people in our past, even if they are White! Or are there no whites who contributed anything ?
I wonder who they could get to play Winston or Albert Schweitzer, maybe Sylvester Stallone is available to do both roles.
I hope I live long enough to see who Hollywood casts as “The Messiah Returns”, the story of a black sharecropper’s son who rose through hard work and diligence to become the first black President of the USA.

  2. TF does not write his column; the actual work is farmed out to an industrial park in China.

  3. Friedman’s ‘quirk’ of treating movies as the REAL THING, real life history, is something I’ve lately noticed other people doing while being interviewed. It’s struck me that those isolated from the world ‘ordinary’ mortals live in, with the struggles, small triumphs and daily interactions, live in an alternate universe. It’s no wonder that they become puffed up and irrational. Case in point, Oprah.

  4. Honoring a two dimensional picture of a three dimensional man.. This is how greatness is defined.. History is full of it, literally..
I would reach for the DVD myself.. If your of the mind to let honesty get in the way of all those photo ops.. You can just fire yourself and walk yourself to the parking lot..
    On a lighter note..

Some insane man pretending to do sign language at Mandela’s memorial..
Right at home with the politicians!

  5. The real question is . Except for a few notable exceptions. Why does anyone follow these “expert” journalists? Including Media. Knowing their record of fraud, omission.Political partisanship.Out right lying.Including interviewing people who knew these people. Lack of any real information, or even using Google. Are wrong in every social or economic prediction. The almost slavish attitudes towards anyone claiming authority on subjects. Including fawning of all socialist politicians, no matter how heinous. Not least of all any originality, even believe these folks about our World?
People using movies for History or even events is a symptom of an illiterate lazy age. Where people are seen as not fallible beings, but demi gods.
Much easier for folks to watch a political propaganda film than actually read some salient facts of any time period. It started I noticed when Jerry Springer was viewed as a reality show.

  6. Let’s not forget that Mandela befriended and helped Tim Robbins survive brutal incarceration after Robbins had been falsely convicted of murder.
Secondly, the entire world, including Conservatives, owe Mandela our eternal debt… it was he, during his American Presidency, that singularly galvanized the effort that saved the planet from comet Wolf-Biederman in 1998.

  7. The house is gorgeous! So big, enormous! Can you imagine someone cleaning it? Poor guy! I don’t envy him) I’d like to live in such house during Christmas holidays! To decorate a new year tree, his one in front of the house, with colorful balls and garlands. I think it’s spring or autumn at the picture, just imagine snowy winter and the same house! It’ll look fantastic!
