  1. The South African security forces killed a little over 500 people during the Apartheid era. The ANC, headed by Mandela killed over 20,000 including the Church Street bombing that killed 19 and injured 200 which Mandela admitted he ‘signed off’ from his jail cell. I won’t shed any tears.

  2. Necklace Nelson is dead. Can’t say I’m disappointed. Beware though,
    “Apres Moi, le deluge”.

  3. Already sick and tired of these displays of worship for Mandela.
Every freaking hack on the planet trying to pretend they knew him or something.
Nelson Mandela’s death is no loss to humanity.

  4. CBC Headline (seriously):
Nelson Mandela dies: The Lincoln of Africa and just as complex

  5. Good riddance to another misguided black communist who ruined his country. SA is a very dangerous place and it will only get worse as more and more white people flee. Think Rhodesia and you will know South Africa’s Future. America’s too.

  6. It gives me some hope for the future to see that at least the readers of SDA are not brainwashed by the Mandela love-fest.
Mandela had to be dragged kicking and screaming before he would say one negative word about Mugabe. All peas from the same pod these fellows. Marxists, terrorists and racists, the lot of them. The only difference with Mandela was that he figured out how to brand himself rather well.
And look at SA today. Highest youth unemployment in the world. White farmers being killed left, right and center. Affirmative action on steroids in the schools, universities and government. Obama can only dream.
Bono is one of his biggest fans…that should tell you something right there.
Anyone with half a brain left South Africa long ago.

  7. Go here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_rand
and have a look at the currency chart about half way down. The chart goes to 2008, but since then the rand is back down. Today for example it is at $10.34 to the US dollar.
So since Mandela and his later cronies took over, the currency is approximately 1/10 of what it was worth prior to these thugs taking charge.
If you lived in South Africa, 9/10 of your wealth was destroyed.
But Mandela and company are great men.
I wonder how much of that tax-free money Bono has is invested long in South African Rands?

  8. Another terrorist made friend of the Obamba administration, nothing new there.
I guess Obamba won’t need to spend taxpayers money to bury him out at sea within three days this time.

  9. I just love how zero didn’t say “our sympathies to SA” or “the world has lost a great man” but only how it relates to him.
    Narcissistic Personality Disorder writ large.
Via the official WH twitter feed.
And the undertone here is also “look at me consoling my daughter after she learns of the atrocities perpetrated by whitey.”
I’ve been to Robbin Island, descriptions of necklaces do not abound.

  10. 1967, Dr. Christian Barnard performed the world’s first successful heart transplant in South Africa.
Today, AIDS infested men rape infant girls in SA under the medical theory that it will cure them.
Such is the progress of Mandela’s creation.

  11. With its ratings, CNN cannot afford a proofreader. One year is just a trifling error.

  12. Mandela may have “bent the arc of the moral universe”, but it was Obama who “stilled the rising waters and healed the planet”.
Thereby, I stand by my assertion, since deleted, that Mandela was the lesser negro. The term “negro” was used to describe Afro-American people by another bender of the arc, Dr.Martin Luther King, and is not racist at all. Unless King was a racist.
Obama will have to attend Mandela’s funeral, or Oprah would never speak to him again.
People have a distressing habit of practically deifying anyone they admire, from politicians to environmentalists,to showbiz “stars”,and they refuse to hear anything negative about the object of their adoration.
Friends tell me “there was only ONE perfect person who ever walked this earth”.
I’m not sure who they mean.

  13. Mandela, rightfully so IMO, will join JFK as a 20th Century icon from the left. Reagan and Thatcher are 20th Century icons from the right. I’ll take the liberty of adding Hayek and Friedman as libertarian icons.
At death, each of those people has been deified by their rabid supporters and mourned/acknowledged by normal people. Naturally, their rabid opponents will rush in to spit on their memory and dance on their grave – Thacher’s death being a recent example. Being severely and boringly normal, I cringe when I hear the rabid voices on either side but those that cheer about these deaths seem particularly small and obnoxious. I suspect that’s why the post was about the reaction to his death, not the man
Every revolution has victims, atrocities and retaliation. I’m not condoning, I’m acknowledging historical reality. It is the nature of the beast and the war against Apartheid is no different. SA, like the former USSR states, were never going to instantly transform into western style democracies. At best, it’ll take generations to stabilize.

  14. B B B But, Nelson Mandela was a saint. He returned good for evil. He used to give necklaces to those with whom he disagreed and to those who had offended him. Of course, those necklaces did not contain diamonds (for what South Africa is famed) but they all did contain carbon. Famous brand names also – Goodyear, Michlein, Dunlop, etc. He was a great follower of the Doors. He was always trying to light someones fire!
In spite of all the black and progressive adoration, I expect his feet are getting quite warm where he is going. His and obamas award of the Nobel “prize for peace,” defines the value of a worthless hunk of metal.

  15. Meanwhile, added Barry S, looks like I have bent the moral arc of the universe towards chaos. Whoopsie.

  16. Being severely and boringly normal, I cringe when I hear the rabid voices on either side but those that cheer about these deaths seem particularly small and obnoxious.
Yeah, don’t bad mouth the terrorist…or whatisname here will cringe.

  17. Not everyone who reads SDA is as militant and angry as many of the regular posters around here. An echo chamber on the right is as unrepresentative of mainstream opinion as an echo chamber on the left. “Cringe” is a pretty mild reaction to some of the pearls of wisdom dropped around here.

  18. Apartheid was an evil statist system that had to be torn down but democracy has not been good to SA. Mandela was a saint in that he could easily have become a dictator 10x that of Mugabe and he not only didn’t but actually stepped down. He failed in that he inflicted or allowed others to inflict weird ultra PC economic policy on SA and that is causing a lot instability. Overall, the world is better for having Mandela but his legacy should be viewed critically.

  19. South African Whites are very, very lucky they’re not all dead or refugees. If you force 80% of your population to live as second class citizens and resist any attempts at reform, it’s open season on you. That’s not terrorism, that’s common sense. And don’t deny for one second that any one of you would simply accept the yoke willingly of if a minority group took over and forced you to live the way Black South Africans did. You would happily be “terrorizing” the b@stards every chance you got, and rightly so.
That Mandella was able to let go of his very reasonable and justified hate and anger is remarkable. That he helped keep that nation from collapsing into chaos and bloodshed is even more remarkable. South Africa is a mess, but not because of Blacks. It’s a mess because of how screwed up it was by decades of White rule. Much like the way the Southern US is still screwed up by centuries of slavery, and then decades of brutal laws that are still causing damage today.

  20. “That’s not terrorism, that’s common sense.”
You’ve outdone yourself. Do you happen to have a newsletter I could subscribe to?
In all seriousness, you know the ANC murdered blacks as well as whites, don’t you? Explain to me why that’s “common sense”.

  21. Mandela ‘helped keep that nation from collapsing into chaos and bloodshed’?
You do realize that the murder rate in South Africa is 31.8 per 100,000 or more than 6 times the rate in the USA and close to 20 times the rate in Canada? Immediately after Mandela was elected president it hit 66/100,000.
Sorry John, I don’t buy the “it’s because of decades of white rule” BS. Whites built roads, hospitals, schools, railroads, ports, electrical grids, irrigation canals and systems of governance and justice. The ANC version of justice is a mob tying a ‘soweto necklace’ onto you and igniting it.
Under the rule of the majority Rhodesia went from the ‘bread basket of Africa’ to a basket case. It had a dollar on parity with the US dollar in 1980, the currency was abandoned in 2009. The only things propping up the South African Rand, which has fallen to 10% of its value are the gold and diamond mines. The mines require reliable electricity to pump cold air into the shafts to keep the heat from killing the miners. When the electricity becomes more unreliable the mines will shut down and the bottom will drop out of the economy.
    It’s as General Napier said
“so perverse is mankind that every nationality prefers to be misgoverned by its own people than to be well ruled by another”

  22. That’s right John.
That’s why the northern boarder towns between SA and Botswana were ALWAYS overrun with refugees fleeing the big bad white oppressor in SA.
    NOT.
( if they were,,, more than likely they were on a “necklace” list and were tipped off)
You were never there, were you?

  23. Yeah, they really had it bad…
    http://southafricanews.wordpress.com/2012/03/21/blacks-should-compensate-whites-for-giving-them-south-africa/
South Africa had 4,8 million whites and 18,2 million blacks in 1987. The whites paid 77% of the taxes and the blacks only 15%…despite this…56% of the government budget was spent on blacks.
There were 2300 registered companies that belonged to black businessmen, about 1000 private taxi companies. 3% of the 50,000 vehicle owners in 1978 were Mercedes Benz owners. Soweto alone had more cars, taxis, schools, churches and sport facilities than most independent countries in Africa. The Blacks of South Africa had more private vehicles than the entire white population of the USSR at the time.
Personally I think that Prof Pierre De Vos and Bishop Tutu should go get an education about the truth about Apartheid. Theyy can start by reading my Pandora Series.
Whites have given blacks the entire country for free. In tact. There is nothing more to give. Today blacks are destroying all the infrastructure that we paid for and built. Then still has the audacity to tell whites they should leave.
What I want to know is who are going to compensate whites for all the schools, hospitals, dams, airports, harbours, railroads, etc that they have built? It is high time for blacks to start paying whites. Nothing is for free.

  24. I posted this before and I will again, for context.
This is what apartheid looked like.
    http://reason.com/blog/2013/12/06/this-is-what-apartheid-looked-like#comment
While South Africa was no North Korea, it wasn’t free either. Even “free enterprise” didn’t exist there. The apartheid era economy was one tightly controlled by the state to prevent markets from working—because markets didn’t produce racist results desired by the architects of apartheid.
It was a country where the government assassinated critics.

  25. So anyone who points out that Mandela’s legacy is not 100% awesome perfectionness is a neo-Nazi? What about all that nuance smart people are supposed to be into?

  26. John >
“South African Whites are very, very lucky they’re not all dead or refugees”
    LOL, you have your wish.
    http://www.genocidewatch.org/southafrica.html
    http://www.thetruthaboutsouthafrica.com/p/white-genocide-in-south-africa.html
Johannesburg is nothing more than another Detroit; the blacks also kill other blacks in droves especially those seeking “asylum” or refugee status from neighboring countries, where they were butchered by other blacks.
Mandela was a useless Marxist Black Icon with a history written in blood, a poster boy puppet for black victim syndrome and White Liberal racially focused mental illnesses across the western world.

  27. So nobody here is even surprised any more that Obama once again makes a historic moment all about him. His statement about Mandela’s death? All about how Mandela inspired Obama. The twitter photo? Obama. The quote in the photo? Obama’s. It must be so tiring being Obama, with the world revolving all around you every day.
    Yuck.

  28. I won’t speak ill of the dead but his image is a western leftard wetdream of social justice thoroughly manufactured. If Obama “had a father” type of bullsh1t. When the necklacing of the remaining whites becomes fashionable, Mandalas legacy will shine its brightest.

  29. LC Bennett –
You say do not condone the murders in SA, but your indifference to them speaks volumes. Would you be indifferent if it was you, or a member of your family who were the victim?
To any degree Mandela condoned murder in the name of revolution, diminished him, and it is impossible to condemn his tolerance of killers like Castro, Arafat, and Mugabe strongly enough.

  30. And don’t deny for one second that any one of you would simply accept the yoke willingly of if a minority group took over and forced you to live the way Black South Africans did. You would happily be “terrorizing” the b@stards every chance you got, and rightly so. – John
No, John, it is not right to terrorize anyone. The Golden Rule is the only proper standard of behavior. And you engage in fantasy, when you insist SDA readers would terrorize anybody. What basis do you have for that slander?

  31. Thanks,Al. I knew it wasn’t ME,as my mother-in-law helpfully pointed out all my failings. And there were many! 😉

  32. I.M >
“So nobody here is even surprised any more that Obama once again makes a historic moment all about him.”
Yea, and it’s all about BLACK again for the post-racist Affirmative Action President. I wonder if he “….had a father, he’d look just like Nelson”.
Wonder if he’ll be flying together with Al Sharpton, Jessy Jackson, Oprah, Spike Lee et al to save carbon credits?

  33. For me, evaluating Mandela’s accomplishment means comparing it with other countries in the region. By that measure, I think, although he was by no means perfect, Mandela accomplished more than Jonas Savimbi and Sam Nujoma – and certainly more than Mugabe.

  34. The American Revolution, the American Civil War, French Revolution, Crusades, Inquisition, WII, WWII, every empire in human history….atrocity, retaliation, political upheaval, chaos. This is historical fact. Observing is not condoning.

  35. http://phantomsoapbox.blogspot.ca/2013/12/i-was-just-wondering-about-nelson.html
I was just wondering if South Africa was better off while Mandela was still in jail.
I take nothing away from the man himself. But I do question the results of his policies. Because from what we see, it ain’t working down there these days.
Guess that makes me a RACIST.
But you know, at least on my RACIST blog I didn’t put a picture of myself standing in Mandela’s freakin’ jail cell pretending I’m all holy and everything. Stay classy, Barry.
Incidentally, of late I’ve been informed that one of Obama’s nicknames from Chicago was Bathhouse Barry, because that’s where he was often seen hanging out. So maybe being the USA’s first Black President is not the only first he represents.
    ‘Nuff said.

  36. No, stupid, that’s what democracy and ‘Marxoid’ economic policy looks like. Bostwana is better off today than SA ever was and look no Apartheid. Please go back to Stormfront with your fellow hydrocephalics.

  37. Please God, do not let L.C. Bennett be mistaken for Larry Bennett! Even the National Post has given at least 5 pages to his passing! Some respect – yes, but it isn’t the Second coming!

  38. Go hang yourself John. You don’t even have the first clue what you are talking about. You show us all what is wrong with the educational system today.
