This fall semester at the liberal arts college in New York saw a curiously high number of bias incident reports. On Nov. 14, the college sent a mass email to students advising them that Bias Incident Response Team (BIRT) had received at least six reports in the last few months of hateful and insensitive messages being scrawled and spray painted on student residences. Messages included “Avoid Being Bitches,” “Fuck Niggers,” and most prominently, “Hey Tranny. Know Your Place.” . . .
Five days after the email was sent, Vassar President Catharine Hill sent a follow-up email announcing that the bias incidents were hoaxes perpetrated by two students. The students wrote the vile messages and then filed the reports themselves, claiming to be the victims of unknown haters.
When your soul demands attention and acceptance, and your actions are no longer worthy of attention and acceptance, you resort to things like this. In the Indoctrination Camps such as Vassar (do they still call it “The Big Pink”?) you must create the narrative, especially when your peers don’t care what you do – or are not allowed to have an opposing position.

BIRT task force had one student member: Genesis Hernandez, who is transgendered and was also a vice president of the Vassar Student Association (VSA), the student government.
The email noted that the two students had admitted responsibility and withdrawn from the college voluntarily. Their names were not reported.
However, The DC has learned that one of the perpetrators was none other than Genesis Hernandez.

I’m thinking from here on we can assume that all anti-gay hate crimes are fake. Being gay doesn’t even rate a second look these days. Its as mainstream and boring as Cool Whip. Nobody cares. Guys can dress up as the biggest, most obvious drag queen imaginable and prance about, nobody will even raise an eyebrow.
The new “out there” of Transgenderism is more a frantic effort to push the envelope of acceptance than an actual thing. The most shock value you’re going to get is an eye roll and a “Whatever!”

Good rant Phantom. The problem with Christianity is that it’s too accepting of sinners. Aside from that, it’s so far from the mainstream now that it’s the new rebellion.
As a Libertarian, I don’t give a rats ass about what two or more consenting adults do in private. What I do care about is what they do in public, especially if they are creating an environment where my rights are reduced. I don’t like about 90% of homosexuals not because of what they do in private, but rather their political views are so repugnant that I have nothing to do with them. I’ve known a few Conservative homosexuals and we get along just fine. This small latter group also doesn’t have the need to broadcast to the world what they do in bed and demand acceptance and the only part it’s had in our conversations is when there’s a medical need to bring it up.
IMHO, anyone who describes themselves as “transgendered” has a psychiatric illness. Given that divisions between male and female are not rigid, there’s a group of individuals who appear to be either very effeminate males or masculine females. Presumably their wetware is equally ambiguous and the simplest way to deal with this issue is to look at the plumbing and use that to assign them to a male or female category (even this is problematic in some cases). Not the nicest of situations to be in but demanding special rights for such groups is stupid.
What’s very interesting is the perversion of science that occurred when homosexuality was taken out of the DSM. This is a scientific perversion at least as great as official Lysenkoism and the travesty of CAGW. Like it or not, homosexuals have 2-4 times the incidence of psychiatric illness of heterosexuals. There isn’t much literature now on whether treatment of homosexuality and reversion to the proper biologic form of heterosexuality will reduce the incidence of psychiatric illness in homosexuals as it’s considered to be illegal in many locations to offer treatment for homosexuality. Recently I was looking at borderline personality disorder (BPD) and was curious as to why it seemed so much more common in females with my practice population of borderlines being entirely female. Then it hit me – the vast majority of male borderlines are homosexual and, given the social opprobrium for florid homosexuality in small towns, almost all homosexuals in the interior of BC have moved to Vancouver where they can display their psychopathology in an accepting atmosphere. Of the few that remain (and having worked in Vancouver for 20 years it takes me only seconds to identify them when I seem them in my exam room), they are very low key and don’t make their homosexuality the only focus of their existence.
I view the demand by the various groups individuals with sexual perversions for forced acceptance to be a manifestation of their psychopathology. What these individuals need is psychiatric treatment, not acceptance. Any law which prohibits one from telling the truth about this population is absolutely evil and has no place in a demographic society. The individuals who carried out this campaign of “harassment” against themselves should have been involuntarily committed to a psychiatric institution rather than simply being let go. They’re no different than the paranoid schizophrenic who believes that the CIA are bugging them with implanted listening devices and also believe they have an electronic device implanted in their neck which the CIA uses to control their behavior. Every criminal action they perform is blamed on the CIA. Fortunately, paranoid schizophrenics and florid manics are currently either residing in jails or psychiatric institutions. It’s time to extend the same possibilities for involuntary treatment to that sexually confused population with its plethora of Axis II psychopathology.

Phantom, I went into medicine having read Szaz’s books on the myth of madness and was of the opinion that no-one should ever be treated involuntarily. When I had my first encounters with the truly insane, I did a 180 degree turn in what I thought was appropriate. I still use involuntary treatment as a last resort and find that the “good doctor”, “bad doctor” approach can do wonders in getting people to comply with treatment. It’s a case of Libertarian ideals being trumped by true insanity: when one has the choice of either shooting a totally deranged patient and, given the fact that most hospitals consider discharge of firearms on their property to be non-approved treatment, one has no choice but to go to an involuntary commitment and use of liberal doses of antipsychotics. After seeing my first few patients who were grateful that I involuntarily treated them rather than shooting them, I do make an exception for involuntary treatment in the case of insanity. I’ve also been told that I have far too great a tolerance for psychopathology and that I’m too reluctant to commit people for involuntary treatment by my colleagues.
In the area of homosexuality, I would consider involuntary treatment appropriate for individuals who are HIV+ and insist on using no protection for their encounters in “bath houses”. We lock up people who are infected with TB for treatment and the same principle should extend to HIV. A number of these HIV+ individuals are bisexual and seem to have no problem in finding naive females whom, of course, they tell they are HIV-. Aside from that public health menace, I’m in agreement with your proposal to leave the “weirdo crowd” to their own devices assuming, of course, that when they invariably get beat up this will be treated as a case of simple assault rather than a “hate crime”.
What puzzles me is that hemi-transexuals (female from the waist up and male from the waist down) always seem astounded when a heterosexual male they’ve picked up pounds the crap out of them after finding some unexpected anatomic bits during a romantic encounter. Then again, any guy who grows breasts and goes for as feminine a facial appearance as possible, and thinks that they have good employment prospects as a prostitute, should be aware that 99% of guys assume this upper body appearance is connected with a continuation of same below the waist. OTOH, such individuals are great for playing jokes on medical students such as asking a medical student to go and perform a pelvic exam on bed 4 and hearing a WTF or other surprise associated expletives when this seemingly beautiful appearing woman has unexpected surprises in store.

Drilling down to the particulars always helps clear things up. Agree in this case you mention, involuntary treatment for HIV is both reasonable and appropriate, given the damage they cause otherwise. Far worse than a drunk driver, just slower.
People always forget that the HIV epidemic we have in North America was introduced here by ONE GUY in San Francisco, and that when the city knew HIV was a communicable disease they still kept the bath houses open.
We can thank those guys for the fact that now you can get HIV from a blood transfusion. Way to go.
