We Don't Need No Stinking Giant Fans

At least they're not ducks: More than 600,000 bats were killed in the United States last year by wind turbines, according to a new estimate.

Just wait a few more years. Once the bat population and a few bird populations are decimated, the insect waves will come. Crop failures, lumber industry crashes, and more coming soon.....and no pesticides available to fight them!

Sacrifices to Gia.

Socialism masquerading as concern for the environment.
These schemes to enrich the politically connected whilst robbing all taxpayers, care nothing for bats, birds or people.
They want your money and control over your electricity use.
Electricity being the new "life blood" of economy.
Hopefully as poverty bites, reality will set in for consumers, the basic question, what do we need these rent seekers for?
Then the windmills will become useful.
Think french haircut x 4.
Simple matter to design& build an auto elitist loader, synchronized with the blades.

Where is PETA in all of this?

I want to watch the animal-saving idiots battle the earth-saving idiots.

T'is True John Robertson. as history shows once the masses recognize, from pamphleteers to I Pods the extent of the hypocrisy used by the politicos they will react in fury.

It will not be a correct thing to do; it will not be fair and it will become an unreasoning mob reaction. The closest hypocrite and the most visible will be the main victims of retaliation and to the mob retribution.

Solar panels on roofs or in small and large installations will likely be the main targets because of ease of access and vulnerability. The ground installations of the windmills will be vulnerable. In either situation if history is the future, the people who have jumped on the band wagon of "free money" best stay clear until the mob mentality runs it course.

Just speculating, things like this don't happen in Canada, except possibly Caledonia in Ontario and New Brunswick and British Columbia. Did I miss any recent areas? Cheers

Interesting article about bats in the October 31st issue of The Western Producer.

"...They won't fly in your hair. They're not blind. They don't suck your blood...", dispelling many myths and lore about the creatures.

Nine species on the Prairies, all with very unimaginative names- Little brown bats can eat their body weight in insects each night. Big brown bats can eat up to 600 mosquitoes per hour.

"The real threats to bats in modern times come from white nose syndrome, a fatal fungal infection, and from the proliferation of wind turbines."

And no mention of the 'allowable' killing of Golden and Bald eagles and Condors.

MikeSr, mobs will not attack windmills in Ontario. Its much too far for any mob to walk.

Windmills will be attacked by -lawyers-, and eventually taken down and sold for scrap by the land owners they were foisted upon.

Its easy to take down a windmill. Putting them up is the hard, expensive part.

Bats aren’t as quite as puppies or polar bears. PETA only could rase money, and that’s what they are all about, if they would help kill more of them.

"...mobs will not attack windmills in Ontario..."

That's right. Ontarians are not mobbers. They are cowerers.

If only we were discussing the indiscriminate annual killing of 600'000 lawyers... Within a few years life would get back to normal.

You missed my point entirely.

In a culture defined by political correctness and shallow rhetoric, which cause would win the media's favor?

Much as I despise that assessment, I must say you're not wrong to this point. Ontario has had its entire industrial capacity gutted these last ten years, jobs gone, money gone, taxes higher every stinking year... and they keep voting Liberal anyway. Toronto, thy name is Dumb@ss. Ontario voters, Homo Stupiditus Maximus.

Except for those who live near these d@mn windmills. They don't seem inclined to cower. The Powers That Be had the OPP go around and "visit" people in this area who were organizing or even just attending anti-windmill events. Events carry on regardless:

I'll be surprised if you heard about this one, it was pretty big but vanished down the memory hole without making a ripple.

From a letter sent to three Alberta gov't ministers last May.

Last October, I had asked ESRD about an alleged large number of bats killed at the Summerview wind facility. (Thanks to the staff who help gather information for me.) I was told:

In response to reports of bat mortality, post-construction surveys were carried out in 2005 and 2006. These surveys found 532 bat carcasses in 2005 and 611 in 2006, or an estimated 16 bat mortalities per turbine.

This is an alarming number of wildlife deaths and I understand remedial action was taken to reduce the number of deaths at this specific facility and is in effect today. Research sent from ESRD indicated that bat mortalities can be reduced up to about 60% using suggested management practices such as increasing the “start-up” wind speed. ESR reported that this practice is being used at the Summerview facility today. Still, we might expect that turbines at the Summerview facility are still killing at least six bats per year—or more if the best management practices are not always adhered to. End of quoted letter.

Losing this many bats year after year(surely the mortaliies decline as populations decline) has to affect mosquito populations. If these morts were cause by (say) the oil industry the weenies would be hollering bloody blue murder AND they'd be claiming that the threat of West Nile is increasing as a result.

If you die from something "green" like wind-induced West Nile, then I guess it is okay. Er, well, maybe not. ☺

Doing a windfarm review I discovered that some bats on the west coast actually migrate. The review died a natural death based on the economics of stringing powerline to and from nowhere.

These flying creature killers are made with a rare metal from China. Not only do these things not produce energy and kill creatures, they pollute the environment to such an extent that people cannot live.

One could say wind turbines are equal opportunity killers.

“One could say wind turbines are equal opportunity killers.”

The Liberal left could care less about 50 million aborted black babies in the US alone, they sure as hell aren’t going to stand in the way of their masters globalized profits for the sake of a few million little Chinese peasants.

Environmentalists destroying wild life along with obscene land use for phoney "safe" power.
If memory serves me right they used the deaths of bald eagles to justify banning DDT.Which killed millions in Africa. Now they allow this slaughter of animals in the name of preservation.Which boils down to money for them. Power over our industries. While fining the oil companies millions for 5 ducks, while thousands of birds, bats or flying squirl's die in droves on the blades of windmills.
Environmentalism has become a socialist camp that produces as usual mostly death.
Every thing it touches becomes a worse disaster. Out right lies become a phoney truth that does more harm than good.

Yeah, who cares about those guys? After all, political donors and eco-activists need to make some scratch!

1,600 ducks cost syncrude $3,000,000.
What should 600,000 bats PER YEAR cost the wind power producers?
Then add in yearly cost of killing the birds.

Will that kind of cost be included in the cost of providing us with that "Gaia friendly green power?" If not, can Syncrude claim that not all are treated as equal before the law?

This is the kind of inequality that leads to the downfall of nations.

We're on the path of giving up those institutions that gave us our wealth and prosperity. Somalia here we come!

Too bad they weren't moonbats.

Bat Grinders are only killing bats and not seals.... Whew what a relief !!

Teen charged for allegedly shooting at windmill, Read the original story. Wednesday Nov 6

Great Idea.

Don't look for the news story,
the LSM has already deleted it.

But if hundreds of Bird Lovers put some well placed Armor Piercing rounds into those bird choppers,
after dark,
might it save thousands of our feathered friends?

Found it!

New York..

Teen arrested after gunfire damages Lowville windmill

A Lowville teenager has been charged with criminal mischief after he was accused of damaging a wind tower in his Lewis County hometown by firing a gun at it.

When I find his address I am sending a donation for more bullets..

Me too!

Another environmentalist "solution" killing millions of something. i.e with the DDT ban, at least it's people dying.

JAMIE. I take extreme umbrage to your comment- quote Ontario voters, Homo Stupiditus Maximus. unquote.
You obviously have NO idea what the ROO (Rest Of Ontario) think. Here's a hint. check out the past election results. How may Ontarians outside of the GHTA and OTA elected Liberal MPP's?
The entire problem with Ontario is centered in the GTHA.We in the ROO consider Toronto to be a foreign county that has, through the fact that it has more Morons per square meter than the rest of us, essentially a foreign entity.
In truth, we feel somewhat the same as those Eastern European countries prior to 1989.

Gaylord, I can't speak for Jamie but I think he realizes this as do most if not all the regulars on this site. Unfortunately all the people generally get tainted with the same brush, and as you mentioned Eastern Europe, certainly not all Eastern European were communists nor were all Germans Nazis. Winnipeg keeps the NDP in power in Manitoba, and Vancouver keeps the various shades of socialism in power in Victoria.

How do they count them?

LOWVILLE, N.Y. -- A Lowville teenager has been charged with criminal mischief after he was accused of damaging a wind tower in his Lewis County hometown by firing a gun at it.

Joshua Stocking, 18, using a 7mm rifle, caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage, New York state police said.

The windmill's owner, EDP Renewable Energy, is still tallying the damage but gave that amount an estimate of the cost, police said.

It couldn't immediately be determined if Stocking had a lawyer.

Way to go Joshua,
Don Quixote fought windmills, but all he had was a donkey and a sword.

My check will soon be in the mail.
