Solar energy - one of the key pillars of the Green Energy and Economy Act (GEEA) - is casting a dark cloud over Ontario electricity bills and is a big factor in recent and future bill increases. In 2013, solar projects caused electricity bills to be about $550-million higher than they would otherwise have been. For a typical homeowner, this works out to $47 per year. Ontario will have an estimated 1,100 MW of solar installed by year-end and roughly 900 MW will be added in 2014. This addition will cause 2014 electricity bills to increase by another $435-million - equal to a typical homeowner increase of $37 per year. By the end of 2014, solar will be costing Ontarians $1.25-billion per year - while generating a paltry 2% of Ontario's total electricity requirement.
How did Ontario get here?
Stupidity. Next question?

Q: How do you cure a socialist?
A: Give them what they want.
Granted, the cure will hurt many others in the process - but hell, socialists couldn't begin to care about others in the first place.
I say we mandate that every socialist be forced to install solar cells on their head and windmills on their ass.
I thought solar power was supposed to be "free."
...and it's the petro-dollar that's hurting the Ontario economy...*snort*
It was not stupidity. These are not stupid people. They are liars and thieves. Solar power was nothing but a scam by which the friends of liberal politicians were able to help themselves to taxpayers money and do nothing for it. They knew exactly what they were doing, and in fancy Toronto cocktail bars are assuredly laughing at the rest of us over their liquid lunch paid with their ill gotten gains.
Frenchie77: A taste of what most champagne socialists truly deserve can be gleaned from accounts of North Korean labour camps or the killing fields of Cambodia.
Ontario, the former economic engine of Canada is now a Have Not Province, living off the charity of other provinces.
All this greenie energy feel good crap is goingto drive industry and business out of the province to locations where energy costs are cheaper and reliable.
Trying to feel sorry for Ontario but the morons voted for Dulton and they now have to pay the piper for their stupidity.
The morons voting for Dulton are a majority in urban Ont, GTA and other cities. Liberals have exactly 1 seat in rural Ont where 100% of the wind plants are located. Wind energy schemes are pushed by Libs and their NDP enablers.
Next Question?
How to FIX the problem.
Gawd,I can't wait to vote against the Ontario lieberals. I will crawl on
my hands and knees to get to the voting booth if need be. Every time I see
a picture of rat faced mcguinty I feel I need to vomit.
"411, whats your emergency"
"yes, I'd like to put out an APB for a "tim hudak"...5"10 with great hair and sounds like the shamwow guy"
According to the IESO, right now th province is getting 123 MW of power from "other". Solar would fall under that. That 123 MW will become considerably less when i gets dark, and starts to snow.
We have included your post in our 'Around the Blogs' section at looniepolitics.com
Upon doing some more digging on the IESO web site, I find other is defined as "wood waste, biogas etc". since they don't list solar as a source anywhere else, solar must fall under the "etc". In other words the 1,100 MW of soar panels is producing nothing.
And, the solar "producer" is getting paid 80 cents a kwh when the market price right now is 1.68 cents.
The only fix starts with a complete and total Liberalectomy. The cancer must be cut out before we can fix the surrounding damage.qdab8s
I live in WA state where the sun doesn't shine much during the winter months. I would think Canada would be just as bad if not worse
These fools waste money at any cost.
The increase is only $47 a year. Worry about something serious.
gas and wind power are causing a far greater increase in energy costs than wind.
What I find most annoying is that they seem to have learned nothing from the same green disaster that England and Europe have been trying to back pedal on for years now.

The inability to admit they are wrong or the desperate hope that they were right against all rational evidence is destroying the very foundation of all that built a thriving economy. Namely cheap abundant electrical capacity. Throw in all the roadblocks to capitalism, stir in the political correctness and add a dash of way too much government and you have the perfect recipe for the downfall of a free democratic society. Too stupid to see that is exactly what Agenda 21 is all about.
$47 a year? Hmmmmm. Seems quite low compared to reality. I lived in Ontario from July 2008 to July 2012. My power bill was about $97 a month when I first got there. When I left in 2012 it was $235 a month! My power costs grew at a rate that a reasonable person would be alarmed at (unless you're a liberal who lives in your mom's basement). I'm glad I left that moronic, self-screwing province. And from what I'm seeing lately, a lot of other people are leaving too.
Don't be a fool! Yes the current and latest increase is about $47. per annum BUT
What is the cost to the taxpayer to subsidize these giant pieces of absolute crap?
What is the cost to the taxpayer to transfer the locations of a useless gas plants that aren't needed and not wanted?
What is the cost to the Ontario economy when long established, well run businesses relocate to the USA because of high energy costs?
What is the cost to other provinces because Ontario is now a have-not, due in part to this ridiculous Green Energy Act?
What is the cost to the healthcare system to treat maladies created by living close by these behemoths?
It sure as hell ain't $47.!!!!!
People absolutely get the government they deserve.
