I guess we are all going to have to hit rock bottom with the mayor. For the first time since Ezra's show began I changed the channel during his monologue yesterday out of shame and embarrassment at what he was saying. This is getting completely out of control and if folks don't snap out of it we will never recover.

Disappointed it turned out this way. Now all those people baying for his blood, have they no compassion for a guy who's afflicted with the disease of substance abuse? Would they not suggest that he get his drugs for free because then he wouldn't need to turn to crime to support his habit. Usually when someone turns to crack and weed, it's somehow society's fault in their eyes. I'm surprised that their lack of understanding.

I don't live in Toronto any more but if I did and the choice for mayor were between Ford and a communist, I would still vote for Ford. Next election you will probably have a choice between Olivia Cow and Rob Ford. Take your pick.

First question that came to my mind is who the hell recorded this and why? It seems to me Ford is keeping some very suspect company.

Are there untold scores of anti-Ford people in Toronto, both on city council and in the body politic who are willing to do anything they can to get rid of him and replace him with yet another "socially-progressive", high-spending mayor? Yes. Would they be trying to get rid of him if he was a perfectly straight-laced teetotaler who behaved impeccably at all times? Yes, because it's his conservatism that drives them batty; they were trying to get rid of him long before the tape came out.

Does Rob Ford need to stop being in denial and get himself sober? Yes, and ASAP. The combination of obesity, alcoholism, the use of powerful, heart-racing stimulants (at least in the past), and an ultra-high pressure job is a recipe for an early death.

He's an alcoholic, IMO, and serious alcoholics - especially large alpha-male types - do things when they're on a bender that they would never do sober.

It's just an unfortunate tale all around.

As for Obama, he's an atrocious human being - a liar of the highest order, a clinical narcissist in all likelihood, and an anti-American president - when he's perfectly straight, which is all of the time, as far as I can tell.

One wonders what these people will do when and if Mayor Ford departs? Will we get the usual pious mouthings about the City of Toronto. Such as we must move forward and a "new" approach for a revitalised council to promote "change" ?
Then possibly there follows a vacuum. No more Rob Ford, just who next to try to destroy.
I heard loosely that "five thousand bucks" was paid by the Toronto Star for that video. Enough to turn the recipient into an alcoholic themselves maybe.

Pols are like kids, they just can't see how telling the truth will keep them out of trouble in the long run. Like a child, they think that a lie will serve until they are caught in the lie.

My advice to both the PM and Rob Ford; man up, tell the truth, take your lumps, and move on. The media hates you both, and if you lie, and are caught in a lie, it only makes it worse. Look into the camera, tell your constituants that you are sorry you lied, and that you will not do it again, and then don't lie again. Tell the media the truth and be damned with what they report, since they will tell only what truth they want to present anyway, and it will not be your truth unless you speak out yourself.

Progs will tell you it is all about the lying, but they are full of crap. They don't mind when their side lies, they support it... look at Obama, caught in a full out lie and being supported by the media in the USA where they say he "mispoke" or "was misunderstood"... he never tried to miss lead anyone. Yeah, sure, uh huh. Do you see the CBC, CTV, Global, Star, etc doing the same for our PM? Not on your life, they see the PM as the enemy, the way the media in the USA sees Obama as their ally. They are powerful and they know it, and they will feed the low information voter just enough to keep them hating conservatives and loving progressives.

Agree with both EBD and minuteman. Ford needs to clean up his act, but even if he didn't, he'd be a vastly better choice than any of the leftists waiting in the wings.

The alternatives for mayor of Toronto must be pretty grim if this guy could seriously continue to hold office.

Woke up at 4:50 this morning as usual, turned on the local news people to catch the weather as usual and what I found was clips of Rob Ford! After those were over, the normal news people were all staring at the camera seemingly speechless for a bit. (Missouri)

My take is simply that the Laurentian Elite have their knickers in a knot because the Mayor of Toronto is not one of them. How much power and prestige have they lost that even in the place they own the one elected is not one of theirs. Yes Ford's personal life is a slow motion train wreck but the media focus would never be as intense were Ford one of the Laurentian Elite.

From the perspective of someone who deals with a lot of addicts in a day I don't see the need for Ford to step down. I wouldn't let him drive a car but in all reality he doesn't have that much power that he can 'wreck' the city. I haven't seen the latest video and I doubt that I will, but from the snippet of what I heard on the radio I had a good yawn. When under the influence people say all kinds of stupid stuff. I can't tell you how many times my life has been threatened by some drunk who wants what I won't give him. Next day or next time he needs something I'm his best buddy again.

People like me who voted for ford knew going into the election that Ford is a highly flawed person and that he had smoked drugs, that he gets drunk, and behaves badly.

So what.

We also knew that he was serious about cutting costs, holding the unions accountable and honestly working his hardest for the taxpayer instead of for the unions and the other interest groups who are only interested in riding the gravy train.

That's right, we knew both these things, and we had many choices in front of us including people who claimed to be conservative and liberals who claimed to be fiscally responsible but had no such track record.

We knew, we voted for Ford anyway, and i have not seen anything that has changed my mind or made me regret that vote.

Do the left really think that they are going to do better with the bums they have been proposing for Mayor do far?

I'll tell you what - get Mike Harris to run for Mayor and I vote for him instead of Ford. Otherwise the "progressives" and the entire media party can go and jump in the lake, all their wringing of hands and moaning about how ford makes them look bad in front of their lefty friends has ZERO impact on my vote for Ford next year.

The new video appears to be different depending on which news outlet is printing or airing it. The context changes it, which makes me suspicious. The video was taken in someone's home....

How unknown is this "dealer"? Without, apparently, knowing who sold this video to them, the Star, apparently, doesn't know whether or not the person who took the video and/or sold it to them is out to get the mayor.

It's pretty apparent, however, that the Star is out to get the mayor. Buying this video and making it public -- not, apparently, knowing in what context it was made -- shows what douche bags work at the Star.

He is the best mayor Toronto has had that I can remember. He has a bit of an odd personal life, but not everyone has the luxury and privilege of going to Harvard or Princeton to lean how to be politically correct and phony with pizzaz.

How's this for a Conservative platform idea for next election:
In order for a more balanced representation of 21st century Canada by the CBC, it's Toronto headquarters be funded half it's current budget and a Western headquarter be set up with equal budget in Calgary.
The lefties could not complain Harper is trying to shut down the CEEB, the same amount of money is being spent and no jobs would be lost. Even more jobs could be promised...If it's going to send a Conservative voice on the air this is a tax I'm willing to pay. Ezra Levant to be put in charge of the west division.
Oh and one other small detail: All the news side would be handled by the West including radio and CBC News Channel. Toronto would keep everything affiliated with TV shows and entertainment.
It's a win win for everyone: The serious stuff handled by the adults and the fun stuff by the "kids in the East".
