EBD: Re: Ontario elementary school pulls out of Remembrance Day ceremony.

This video makes up for it.

Since this is the day to acknowledge real men and woman, not white poppy weenies, I would like to wish Dorothy a happy birthday.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2500759/Whisky-15-cigarettes-day-secret-good-health-says-Dorothy-celebrates-100th-birthday-glass-favourite-tipple-course.html

Take that all you health nuts.

Yes it does!

What a great link.

But...but…wasn't she was the one she was waiting for?

“I was really shocked,” said Colorado Obamacare supporter Cathy Wagner upon receiving her cancellation notice. “All of my hopes were sort of dashed. Oh my gosh, President Obama, this is not what we hoped for, it’s not what we were told.”
Wagner says the same coverage will now cost her and her husband 35% more and that they will have a higher deductible.
“Our premium for next year is going up to over $1,000 a month for two of us and we’re two fairly healthy individuals,” said Wagner..

France is thinking of celebrating big next year for Remembrance day but I had to read the following passage twice to believe it :

"Of course it is difficult for Germans, who are now France’s closest European partner, to help commemorate a French military victory, a victory that had dramatic and eventually catastrophic consequences for Germany."

See what revisionist history can do to a nation that doesn't even understand they have handed over their country to Muslims ? Must be nice to live in a dream world.

Let us see now.

There is this thing the French call coup d'état, Germans call it putsch, overthrow in English.

Here is what the Wikipedia collected on the subject.

A coup d'état (/ˌkuːdeɪˈtɑː/; plural: coups d'état), also known as a coup, a putsch, or an overthrow, is the sudden deposition of a government, usually by a small group of the existing state establishment………to depose the extant government and replace it with another body…….. A coup d'état is considered successful when the usurpers establish their dominance. When the coup neither fails completely nor succeeds, a civil war is a likely consequence.

…….military historian Edward Luttwak states that "[a] coup consists of the infiltration of a small, but critical, segment of the state apparatus, which is then used to displace the government from its control of the remainder."

Now, the circumstances in this case are not national in nature, just local in the town of Annapolis, Maryland. Rather unlikely that there is going to be a civil war over that. Though strange things happen all the time.

“Annapolis Council To Consider Stripping Republican Mayor-Elect’s Power”
http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2013/11/10/annapolis-council-to-consider-stripping-republican-mayor-elects-power/

Democrats (wholly a misnomer) lost the mayoralty race and now are setting up a palace coup.

It seems that Poland no longer teaches history to the young either.

On the subject of Remembrance, here is an oration of Pericles in remembrance of the fallen soldiers.

It is a most eloquent speech.

Meanwhile, we have a lot of people not celebrating anything except our destructive immigration policies.

Joe Warmington writes:

TORONTO - There’s a big contrast in how our current mayor and our former mayor chose to honour Remembrance Day.

Nov. 11, 2013.

“Those who did not return are owed a debt that can never ever be repaid,” said Mayor Rob Ford.

Nov. 11, 2010.

“We will not learn how to live together in peace by killing each other’s children,” said Mayor David Miller.

So what speech did you like better?

"They also serve who only stand and wait" (originally from Milton) was famously used by Churchill in one of his wartime speeches.
We should not forget those who found themselves in positions to the rear of battle. The trainers, technicians, mechanics, etc., who did the hard, often tiresome jobs that made our soldiers superior to the enemy.

In WWl, American military researchers, on interviewing scores of vets, found that over half of them did not consciously shoot at enemy combatants when required. The training of riflemen was refined before WWll to take this into consideration but was not totally successful.
Teddy Roosevelt formed his famous Rough Riders from Western country wranglers and horsemen for the Cuban campaign in 1898, as this deficit seemed to be known well before the Great War. These volunteers were expert horsemen and good shots before being recruited.

In 1871 Union Army records for the Civil War indicate that its troops fired about 1,000 rifle shots for each Confederate soldier hit, causing General Burnside to lament his recruits: "Out of ten soldiers who are perfect in drill and the manual of arms, only one knows the purpose of the sights on his gun or can hit the broad side of a barn." (from Wikipedia)

General Burnside was the first President of the NRA.

Good Soldiers don't just appear like mushrooms in horse sh*t; they have to be nurtured from youth.

OP – thanks for that.

And 19 comments! That's good, I guess. I am however, a bit perplexed.

Without trying in any way trying to start a flame war, could you folks please explain to me how the following relate in any way, shape or form to remembering the sacrifice of Canadian soldiers, sailors and airmen?

1. Medieval swear words. EBD – can you please explain?
2. How the Left spun the Kennedy myth. EBD, how about this one?
3. The 100th birthday of a smoking Englishwoman (no mention of veteran status). peterj?
4. Colorado Obamacare? EBD – yours, please?
5. Kissing your camel goodnight, mid island mike?
6. Annapolis, Maryland municipal politics, Lev?
7. Destructive immigration policies. PeterJ?
8. Twitter being a Halal stock. Travis?
9. O's Cairo speech. maz2?
10. Korean executions. johnbrooks?

I would expect a 50+% hijack rate on an NDP website on Remembrance Day. Here? How very, very sad.

Ontario's top court has struck down an idiotic mandatory minimum enacted by the hoplophobes in the federal government.

There was nothing to say readers tips was dedicated to Remembrance day. The header is often a song or something insignificant. Does that mean readers tips is dedicated to that song or the insignificant ? Readers tips is ALWAYS wide open for ANY subject deemed significant by the posters.

Tim; I appreciate the concern your comments express.
I think though, that those comments not directly related to Remembrance do expose the many ways in which our Legacy of Freedom is squandered by the Left.
Obamacare imposed on Free Citizens? Canadian Medicare the same?
A President's Cairo speech which forgets what nurturers War and the thousands of his own people who died to pound the Bullies back in to their caves. Etc..

"The UN came to Haiti and left behind a disaster. Let's hope they don't do the same after Typhoon Haiyan"

"In the end, the smell lives on as the strongest memory. Back in January 2010, I was sent to Haiti just after an earthquake had devastated the capital, Port-au-Prince. In the aftermath of this calamity, which claimed as many as 300,000 lives, the ruins of the city were pervaded by a particular smell, combining tropical humidity, pulverised buildings, spilled petrol, filth, sweat and – most cloyingly of all – decomposing human remains.

Today, the scenes in the Philippines must be tragically similar."

That's exactly right, peterj. The Reader Tips thread is open for SDA readers' links/comments on whatever reports/posts/points of interest that they've found on the interweb.

The Tips thread is posted 365 days a year, which means that every year there's one posted on September 11th, and on Canada day, Independence Day, Easter Sunday, and on each of the eight days of Hanukkah, etc. etc., but that doesn't mean that readers' tips on any of those days must be limited to those subjects.

My Tips video was a commemoration of Remembrance Day, and eight or more comments in this thread were about this honoured day. Plus, as is the case every year, Tim, there's was a dedicated Remembrance Day post yesterday.

I notice that you didn't submit a comment there. "Can you please explain?"

Can we talk about the weather we are experiencing today, here in the USA? This is the earliest severe cold snap that I have experienced. Here in SW Virginia, we are dropping about 20 degrees in about 6 to 8 hours. I have seen this sort of thing in St. Louis, but rarely earlier than Thanksgiving. And the cold snap seems to cover most of the US. Amazing."

Did he project unicorns too?

Not celebrating Remembrance Day in the schools but still taking the day off, right? Here in BC they added a pro-D day onto the weekend so everyone could have a 4 day holiday. As these people go about their rip off of society they should be forced to watch actual uncensored footage of what Canadian troops endured for their freedom.
