Israel is fuming with the White House for confirming that it was the Israeli Air Force that struck a military base near the Syrian port city of Latakia on Wednesday, hitting weaponry that was set to be transferred to Hezbollah. Israel has not acknowledged carrying out the strike, one of half a dozen such attacks widely ascribed to Israel in recent months, but an Obama administration official told CNN on Thursday that Israeli warplanes had indeed attacked the Syrian base, and that the target was "missiles and related equipment" set for delivery to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Israel's Channel 10 TV on Friday night quoted Israeli officials branding the American leak as "scandalous" (and) "unthinkable."

As long as Israel doesn't admit to these types of actions, then Assad can pretend he doesn't know for certain what happened and who to blame, but when the cats is publically out of the bag it could force him to need to retaliate just to save face, and Isreal will not sit by and let things just happen, and so others could be drawn in and things escalate into a larger war. Was this a matter of stupidity or design? Obozo's plans to lob cruise missiles at Syria were decisively shot down by the American public. So, why not do the next best thing and get Israel involved in Syria? This would result in taking out Assad as well as getting the Israeli's and Russians in direct conflict which might result in Obozo's desired outcome of having the Russians take over that pesky Jewish state which has singularly refused to adoringly stand in awe of his brilliance. Also, given the average Jewish IQ, the only occupation Obozo would be suited for in that country would be toilet attendant (Israel, wisely, doesn't believe in affirmative action and meritocracies are probably viewed as exceedingly evil in the eyes of the TOTUS).
That wouldn't achieve Obozo's goal of having Al Qaeda as the dominant power in Syria, but it would result in the elimination of Israel which would likely be considered a satisfactory outcome by the chimp in chief.

More and more, all this seems deliberate. Backstab one's friends, demoralize the military, turn the country into an international joke, so the bad guys can run rampant without having to worry about US retaliation or even censure.

Re George's comment: there is plenty of violence in Syria at present, so that blowing
up an ammunition depot might be put down to an action of one or another of the
Syrian rebel groups. Nothing unusual.

Between Israel and its neighboring countries, I certainly prefer the Israelis and think American policy should favor them, but it's a bit rich for them to act all righteous and indignant. Israel sells American technology -- including military technology provided to them ostensibly for their defense -- to people like the ChiComs. They conduct espionage against the US and run spy networks.
Obama's embarrassing foreign policy isn't the only thing "scandalous" and "unthinkable" in US-Israeli relations.

Why would they do that, the only information they'd get out of Harper is how to properly run an economy and conduct foreign policy diplomacy, which is obviously counterproductive to their goals.

IMHO Canada has been betrayed by American interests who see more value in importing oil from the ME or Venezuela dictatorships. It is in Canada's national security interests to diversify trade relations away form the USA as quickly as possible. PM Harper is doing that but whether he will survive another election to complete the job is questionable.

Although Israel has historically had the US as an ally....since 1956, they allow for the US to betray them....they harbor no illusions of automatic/unquestioned US support. Too many embargos in the past....
