It has been said that anyone who jumps out of a serviceable aircraft has to be nuts. Here we have a group of nuts that were obliged to jump for a rational reason. The cognitive dissonance must be exquisite.

Yeah well, I'm among those who jumped outa perfectly good airplanes, for perfectly good reasons, but I share your feelings of irony.

You don't have to have a parachute to jump from a perfectly good airplane unless you want to do it again!!

Well, in this care the aircraft were not exactly serviceable.

hint: If you see the pilot going towards the exit with a parachute then you might have a problem.

Took the sky diving course while at UVic way back in the 70's. Back in those days you had to static line 20 jumps before free fall. Jump instructor misjudged the cross winds on our first jump and we ended up 2 fields over. 2nd jump I came down on the bulls eye like I actually knew what I was doing.

On a static line jump the chute opens within seconds. The experience of quiet and drift down was intense. Two jumps and my money was gone and exam finals ended my adventure. I never jumped again but my roommate when on to over a thousand jumps all over the world.
