Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

I too, was willing to be a Senator.
However, we have a house at the farm and one in town.
That always gets all your service providers up in arms: Sir, which house is your primary residence. Answer: Both.
That alone probably disqualifies me.
It's nice to know however that our media is focusing on this as opposed to, say, over a billion dollars waste on, say a power station, etc (Sarcasm intended)
I sold the pharm, and could buy a motor home and live in the parlament parking lot and need only a power cord hook up,oink oink:-))))
The irony amongst the leftard talking heads is delicious. They are at this very moment bemoaning the absence of rule of law in the expulsion of these three while only moments earlier bemoaning the fact that there is no mechanism for removing Rob Ford from office. Not to mention Joe Fontana...
NME666, first you would say you 'only' need a standard 110 plug, no different then plugging a block heater... before long the taxpayer would be paying for a 220, 50 amp plug rewire.
This is how it always starts... we've seen it all before...
The trough is too low. I can't bend over enough to eat from it. Can we have a study commissioned on the feasibility of getting that trough raised? By the time they are done putting in that 220, 50 amp plug rewire and have the landscaping all cleaned up and replaced from that work we should be ready to tear it all up again to put in the new trough abutments.
Since that worked, why don't the Conservatives vote to suspend some opposition MPs for 2 years. I'm not how how senators appointed by the Governor General that can only be gotten rid of for 5 reasons can be voted out. Totally ultra vires. Harper has guaranteed this will be in the court and in the news about the time of the next election. I'm a formerly active old Reformer and I'm beginning to think that maybe Harper is a bit of a horses ass. He has done nothing on my pet symbolic conservative causes that are pretty much without cost or contention and he couldn't figure out a way to let the Senate scandal die without taking a hit for it. The Senate has always been crooked and the Liberal senators the crookedest. How did Harper manage to step in the only cow pie in the pasture?
I'm going to submit my resume to the PM.
"How did Harper manage to step in the only cow pie in the pasture?" Hilarious analogy, thanks for the laugh!
The answer is, of course, that MSM selective amplification has expanded the single cow pie beyond the perimeter of the pasture. Harper can't step anywhere else!
The problem with you being a Senator Kate is you haven't got a purse big enough to hold the balls of the male element in this Body trying to hide them.
Otherwise your being a dog breeder would convert this political office into a well run kennel. It would be a plus in this political house of mixed half breeds.
Derek...opps, forgot that my welder needs 220/50, I'll just have to try and not do any side jobs:-)))))oink, oink:-)))
Ready, aye, ready, Kate.
And I just overheard on the CBC a Ceeb talking head pointing out that the Conservative government House leader (I assume for the Senate) pointing out that this sets a precedent for getting rid of deadwood. (My word, not his or the Ceeb's.) So I wonder what the Auditor General has been doing lately and I wonder how many Liberals have been caught?
And let's hope it brings down some (alot?) of the Media at the same time for their double standards.
T'would be nice if Harper DID appoint Kate.Has anyone sent him a recommendation, complete with her CV?
If not, you have as much chance of being called by a Hollywood director to star in a remake of "Gone With the Wind", the story of how the people were fleeced by Ontario Liberal politicians.
I'm hoping Harper will appoint Rob Ford to the Senate,it'd give the MSM fits.
Oh you'll need at least a new pebble based nuclear reactor to help all the beleaguered Ontario taxpayers with their heating bills this winter! You should be good for several GW and about 100,000 amps or so...!
Should be enough to run at least some space heaters to keep you toasty through -25C chills.
Cheers

Let us see now.
Senators were suspended for 2 years.
Hmm.
Seems they do these tricks as though nobody is watching.
You see, the robust guy needs exactly that to hook up the senatorial pension. This could be true of the other two.
It would appear that since they were not fired, just suspended, there is a good chance that they will be collecting even though they can’t show up for 2 years. They are still members of the senate.
Could be wrong on that though.
For those that would like to abolish senate, perhaps you should think it over.
You see, that is what the socialists/fascists need. There would be no stopping them once they got in power. They could pass their totalitarian idiotic ideas and that would be final. Nothing to stop them.
The senate, however flawed is a check on that, as much as it is.
Harper wants to reform the senate, though he has no power to do it thanks to the drama queen’s father. The situation seem to be hopeless in that case.
When will the other Senator's be 'disciplined'? Pretty sure we have been hearing about other pigs at the trough for many years.
That's what I would like to know.
Only three suspended?
I wasn't in favor of this motion because I felt it was putting the sentence ahead of the trial. But now that it's done I'm looking forward to the Auditor-General's report. I'll bet there's at least six more hogs at the trough. I wonder if they will get the same treatment? They won't dare do anything different. And what about the slack-ass administration that have been signing off on these expenses for all these years? Maybe a little house-keeping in that area as well.
Just a few simple questions.
1. How frequently do Senators and MP's submit expense claims?
2. Why did it take 3 years for the expense claims to be deemed incorrect?
3. Was there no one responsible for vetting those claims when submitted?
I have been in the position where some expense claim rules were found to be fairly vague. What one did to verify there claim as being valid or invalid was to submit it and wait for a response from upper management.
Which house is your principal residence? Unless the rules state clearly that it will be the nearest one, as an example, how does one define it?
Often common practice would over rule a vague policy. You just do what everyone else is doing.
This all looks like a Conservative witch hunt on the surface. I have seen nothing that would persuade me to the contrary. The $16 glass of orange juice worked, didn't it. So lets throw these three in the bond fire and save our sorry asses.
The expense claims of the three seem no more outlandish than those of our Left Coast crown corp. executives.
"A fourth senator under investigation — Liberal appointee Mac Harb — dodged the purge after repaying $231,000 in claims and abruptly resigning this summer to collect a $123,000 pension."
LOL - Of course he did.
scar;
I am an original Reformer as well and I have questions about the CPC agenda but still have great faith in Stephen Harper. I do worry about the inevitable infiltration of progressives into the party.
IMHO Harper should have got signed resignation letters from all his Senators when he appointed them. Supposedly the commitment is there that if an 'elected' Senate was achieved they would step down and stand for election. If the resignation letters were in hand these 3 could have been removed for good. I also don't like the retention of benefits. Why wouldn't these people stand by public health care like the majority of us do. Retaining benefits after getting caught with hands in the cookie jar is insulting to tax payers. It appears that being a Senator is more about a career move than serving the country as a public service.
The audit of remaining Senators is still outstanding. There could be further revelations coming. Harper could take a bold move come re-election by advocating the abolishment of the Senate.
Three down...how many more to go?
I don't think abolishing the senate is a good idea. If there were no senate and, god forbid, the son of Trudeau or Mulcair were to form a majority government there would be nothing to stop them from ramming through a progressive agenda and destroying the economy.
The stability that a second legislative chamber brings is a great benefit to a country; many ancient Greek city states had two kings of equal power to prevent one man leading them into ego-driven catastrophes. Let's keep in mind that the total figure for the senate scandal is less than $600,000, which is peanuts when the government spends $272,000,000,000 per annum. Yes, keep a close watch on the senators and certainly have the RCMP lay criminal charges if necessary, but don't throw out the whole barrel because of four bad apples.
