Star of the story, breast cancer patient Gonzalez loved Chavez and voted for him. You can't make sure everybody gets what they deserve in life, but it's a comfort to see people somewhat deserving of what they get. That is the government, the economy, and the medical system she helped to choose.
I suspect that if one were to poll the professoriate from any liberal arts faculty in Canada, the vast majority would agree with a statement that the people of Venezuela are better off now than under Chavez's predecessor. It's the "equality" that counts not the overall condition. This is pretty much boiler-plate progressive doctrine. I also suspect that a slight majority of all Canadians would agree.
And that differential would be even bigger if not for QE Infinity. Next time, think.
