It's the elephant in the room that everyone wants to ignore. If homosexual people are born that way (as opposed to a combination of nature and nuture), then the same surely must be the same for pedophiles.

Oh god, another thread to bring out LAS and his defense of pedophiles, no doubt including Islam and Al Qaeda.

Regardless the rest of us can hate them all we wish, because we were BORN THAT WAY!

What disturbs me is how much pedophilia is a taboo subject. The lack of proper treatment for victims Canada wide is absolutely disturbing. Hats off to people like Theo Fleury who aren't afraid to talk about it. I'm also concerned about how many people view pedophilia itself a crime, which it is not. Viewing child porn is a crime, acting against children is a crime, but being attracted to them is not. Society needs to understand this so we can get treatment for pedophiles to prevent victimization or re-victimization of children. The problem is each pedophile usually has dozens of victims.

Are people who make and view child pornography classed as normal? It seems to reasonable to assume anyone who enjoys watching and/or taking part in the abuse of children for sexual titillation would have to be classified as either a pedophile or have some form of derangement.

Ruining the lives of young children and even babies with this type of abuse is not done by people who fit the profile for normalcy.

This would matter if the DSM-V were a scientific document and not a long manual on the 'mind alchemy' that is psychology.

I don't really care to debate why these coldhearted sick f*cks are this way.

I would rather discuss why we live in a society where our supposed leaders and the sheople themselves only give lip service to the need to protect our children. The courts now have our police forces in the frequent position where they have no power but to warn the public that yet another predator they KNOW who will re-offend is again among us. The "justice" system has raised the rights of the predator far higher than those of the prey.

Repeat offenders need to be executed, or at least locked away FOREVER.

Until mankind learns a way to permanently "reprogram" these "infected" brains, nothing less is good enough.

I guess I can dial down my outrage a notch or two.. But I know whats on their minds.. Testing the waters with their "erroneous phrase" is still activist behavior from so called medical professionals..

It would be hands off the kids.. No adult problems.. No adult politics.. No trying to save the future by indoctrinating them into whatever snake oil your selling.. Just a solid non political education and play time so they can develop the sophistication required to pick sides when they turn 18..

As for the 'Born that way' argument, psychiatrists would also say that kleptomaniacs and pyromaniacs are also 'born that way.' This does not mean that we condone or accommodate their behaviour or make excuses for it. We punish it. When someone commits a crime, punishment should be the first concern, then rehabilitation. If rehab wasn't successful, I would suggest that the punishment was not appropriate.

Unfortunately society seems more concerned about proper outcomes with property crimes than they do about outcomes with murder, rape, and child molestation.

That's what I'm saying. Being a pedophile itself isn't illegal (the attraction to children). Acting on it is. Problem is it's such a fine line between the two, and stepping over it has such incredible consequences. How do we as a society prevent that from happening?

Pedophilia as a "movement" is at about the same point in public "acceptance" as the homosexual "movement" was 40 years ago.

Those of us old enough to remember when psychology rated homosexuality as a perversion know this only to well.

God help us 40 years from now when this "orientation" has the backing of government forced acceptance.

That's part of the problem. How do we deal with pedophilia? The justice system clearly makes it black and white. The line exists and should not be crossed. However with many pedophiles it is just a matter of time before it is crossed. So do we shun pedophiles before the line is crossed? How do we prevent it from being crossed? Are those two questions mutually exclusive?

I don't think any rational human being can say pedophilia is acceptable.

There is one correct response to those who abuse children, sexually or otherwise, immediately upon conviction in a court of law the pedo/abuser is frog marched to the front steps of the court house and beheaded. All television stations will be required to broadcast live.

I suspect that this wasn't an error, but rather a trial balloon to see if there was any outcry over considering pedophilia a normal variant. The manner in which the APA creates psychiatric diagnoses is so warped that commercial sausage making looks like an exemplar of sterile technique in comparison.

First ran into the sordid history of the decision to convert homos*xuality from a psychiatric diagnosis to a normal variant. This was accomplished by a wholesale disregard for medical truth and with considerable pressure from homos*xuals including threats to violently disrupt the APA meeting. Thus, based on a combination of very shoddy research (using much of Kinsey's discredited work), blackmail and threats of violence, homos*xuality disappeared as a psychiatric condition. One of the fundamental myths about homos*xuality is that queers have no more psychopathology than heteros*xuals. This is clearly false as I became well aware of when practicing in Vancouver. The incidence of major psychopathology in homosexuals is 2-3 times that of heterosexuals. This, alone, should have been sufficient evidence to keep homosexuality as a DSM diagnosis. Through a curious bit of coincidence, I googled Jeffrey Satinover at the same time that I was reviewing medical literature on the incidence of borderline personality disorder in males. This is a common disorder in females, but almost unheard of in males where I currently practice. Then it suddenly occurred to me that almost all the male borderlines are queers and have been driven out of the interior and moved to the more receptive and degenerate clime of Vancouver. The reason I googled Satinover was to find out if he'd published an update to The Quantum Brain which is an excellent book on the role of quantum mechanics in biology. It turns out that Satinover is a psychiatrist who rather late in life got a PhD in physics and works with organizations that treat homos*xuality. I was unaware of the junk science that was forced onto the APA when they suddenly decided that queers were really no different than heteros*xuals.

Where the pedophilia comes in is that older homosexuals like young boys and many of these adolescents are quite confused about s*xuality and, through the proper "treatments" at the hands of older males, they can be induced to assume that homos*xuality is normal and that they were born homos*xual. Satinover's thesis is that there is nothing inate about homos*xuality and that confusion about s*xuality exists in adolescents who are readily induced to believe that they are homos*xual. Borderline personality disorder is associated with very rapid changes in mood, over-valuation of people and then suddenly their devaluation. In women, self-mutilation is common as well as eating disorders. Given the striking paucity of male borderlines in the interior and, on reflection, seeing multiple queer patients in Vancouver who I would now diagnose as having borderline personality disorder, it appears that homos*xuality is one of the manifestations of male borderlines. Curiously, female borderlines tend to be overwhelmingly heteros*xual, but often have such a fear of abandonment that they end up in one abusive relationship after another.

Personally, I think it's time to review the DSM4 lack of consideration of homos*xuality as a psychopathologic diagnosis. When one considers the cost of the AIDS epidemic, a clear consequence of considering homos*xual behavior to be "normal" then it's time to have a fresh look at the evidence. I've known quite stable homosexuals and, as a Libertarian, I don't particular care what goes on in peoples private lives. However, when one is dealing with clearly deranged homos*xuals, physicians aren't currently allowed to bring up the psychopathology that often is associated with this condition. Fortunately, they all seem to have moved to large cities and will hopefully stay there as it's very nice being in a largely homosexual free environment. However, there are a lot of adolescent males who are confused about their sexuality and this is likely a target rich environment for homosexual pedophiles.

I would submit that the problem here is not that paedophilia isn't a sexual orientation but that it clearly is one.

But that doesn't mean we're somehow obligated to consider it as acceptable.

The destruction and confusion of the next generation is being accomplished through the behavior of the pedophile community, more than any other.

I see the children as a canvas for painting. But not just any painting, they are more like paint-by-number canvases. The Builder of the canvas has a plan for a beautiful and exclusive, one-of-a-kind masterpiece, full of vibrancy and life, bringing hope and a future to those who come in contact with it.

The responsibility of ensuring that painting comes to fruition lands on the Father and the Mother, to nurture, protect, open doors of opportunity for that canvas to be filled with the right shades, tones and colors.

I see the pedophile as someone who slashes, chars or throws concrete on that canvas, leaving indelible scars, blurring the intended picture and twisting it into something which it was never intended to be.

Those very activist judges and members of the APA would be all over anybody who would walk into an artist studio like Monet, Rembrandt, DaVinci, Picasso...etc and do to the paintings what the pedophiles are doing to the children. For them to say that those who are unleashing their twisted fantasies and reprobate desires on the children are acting out as normal, just a bit misguided, would bring the masses to the streets and drive them to the remotest parts of the earth. Which is where they belong! Not in a normal and healthy functioning society.

FALSE: Ancient Greece was highly diverse but by and large they went from tolerant (in the literal meaning of the word) to quite hostile. Although of course there were some cities which were rather more supportive of it, Thebes being a notable example.

Now pedophilia was actually what the Greeks were fairly broadly accepting of.
