The Atlantic photoshops Boehner's head onto arrest photo of Irish Republican Army murderer.

Is "The Atlantic" MSM or now just another fringe like the NYT?

It's what liberals use to whack spiders in their bathtubs...

Good God, where do I even begin?

1. Yes, the toffs negotiated with Dublin and with Sinn Fein. Dublin knew very well that Ulster would be ungovernable by the Catholic government of a United Ireland, short of ethnically cleansing the Protestants (which might have annoyed the EU). Far better a "power-sharing agreement" where Dublin and Rome would have veto power over every act taken by an Ulster government to keep order, promote prosperity and preserve British liberty, but would be excused from coughing up the money for dole cheques addressed to the Falls Road. In the end, Dublin got everything they really wanted.

Why did the toffs agree? Simple. They didn't give a wet fart about Ulster, and wanted to get Northern Ireland out of the papers and have done with embarrassing questions at cocktail parties in DC and Brussels. The fact that Ulstermen were instrumental in preserving British liberty meant nothing to them.

2. The holdouts were the Provos, who were quite open about their plans to rid Ulster of capitalism, British law and the Protestant faith. They knew the hearts of the toffs weren't in defending Ireland from her enemies, then as in 1916.

They only re-invented themselves as Dublin's proxies in the new Belfast assembly when they ran out of American money (one of the very few good things President Clinton ever did was see the money was cut off, over the objections of plastic paddies in both parties in Congress). Adams and McGuinness probably couldn't believe their luck.

Governments negotiate with terrorists all the time. That, of course, only encourages more terrorism. So why do they do it? Because they care more about their standing invitations to the right cocktail parties than the fates of their nations. If things go really pear-shaped, they have second homes abroad and patrons who can set them up in non-jobs at universities and think-tanks.

Obama, meanwhile, is taking a harder line because people whom he cares whether they live or die might be inconvenienced by a repeal of Obamacare (his "community") or a default (Wall Street).

Can nothing be done to prevent the insane blatherings of Dickhead Slater appearing on this site? His rants are way over the top.

Well at least according to you.

No, according to a few people. This article is about the maligning of John Boehner, not what Dick thinks happened in Northern Ireland and the Catholics or Rome or the Jesuits or whatever imaginary bogey-man he trots out because his brain is stuck in the seventeenth century.

I imagine the Atlantic thinks it's being clever. However, the average low-information voter is not going to get the IRA reference and is probably still trying to get onto the Obamacare webpage.

I think people are in serious denial about what's going on right now, or, in the case of Dick, just completely missing the point. This has nothing to do with Sinn Fein, obviously.

The vilification of those who oppose Obama's goals has been ramping up, notch-by-notch, for a long time – at least since mom & pop Tea Party members sitting in lawn chairs at quiet protests were called "extremists" while the actual extremists in the Occupy movement were praised by large media corporations and top Democrats like Pelosi for their "energy" – but this sort of incendiary image in the Atlantic, and the language and tone in the article, which precisely echoes and serves that of the administration, is crossing over into what you might call pre-violence, and is setting the stage for an unconstitutional consolidation of power, for violence and extraordinary measures.

I hope Americans wake up, and don't remain in denial about the nature of the Great Leader, and this administrations vision for America.

"There's a good political reason that the president won't negotiate over the debt ceiling, as we've noted before. Doing so would simply make any future need to raise the debt ceiling an opportunity for similar terrorism."

The inherent threat in this sort of language, wherein rational people who love the country want to stop Obama from destroying it are deemed "terrorists" comes straight from the top, and is promoted/abetted by a complicit drone media.

"(Obama's) goal isn't just to get through this debate with no additional damage; it's to win the War on Political Terror once and for all."

To describe this sort of language as over-the-top is an understatement. It's ominous.

Obamugabe should never have become President. America's in for a rough ride.

Think of him like 'new' except less intelligible.

TNR a while ago made a Twitter post asking what Obama should do about Congressional intransigence and put a picture of the Russian parliament after Yeltsin bombed it. The mask is off.

and that would be hard, less intelligent, to accomplish

EBD...and the house is doing exactly what the constitution was designed for them to do, and that is "check" the power of the executive when it goes beyond it's mandated authority

My point was that the Provisional IRA would have had better luck getting the likes of Obama to the bargaining table than the Republicans have had, because the Provos only caused trouble for people who worked for a living, feared the Lord and were loyal to the Queen.

Contrast the treatment of Sinn Fein to the treatment of the Golden Dawn, whose caucus were hauled off in handcuffs because an agent provocateur was found to kill a communist thug and claim Golden Dawn put him up to it. If there's any real risk of default if nothing is done about the Tea Party, rest assured Obama has his orders from the banks to do likewise. And don't tell me the MSM wouldn't jump for joy at the sight of Boehner being picked up by the FBI.

Sinn Fein MPs to Westminster, meanwhile, get paid for refusing to take their seats at all, because nobody on Wall Street or in the City cares about Ulster and none of them are loyal to anything but their bank balance themselves.

EBD is absolutely correct. Republicans are now the American left's equivalent of the "kulaks" and "enemies of the people".

As I and others have said numerous times, this has been building quietly for decades in all our institutions, and now they have come right out into the open with their aim of remaking American society, and ours by extension. The Alinsky cabal chose Obama to pull this off, and in fact Obama told us in 2008 that he was going to fundamentally change America.

America in for a rough ride is so right.

He could be banned, but if you do that to people you tend to lose sight of how many insane blatherers there are out there.

Well if Boehner is photoshopped onto an Irish terror suspect; it is quite obvious that the Atlantic does'nt give a tinker's damn...

Cheers

Um Dick do you know that as a Christian the Church of Rome is not your enemy? I don't agree with a lot of what the RC Church says but in the great grand scheme of things we Christians are all on the same side. How did Jesus put it "I have sheep of other pastures". We are not all one flock but we are all sons of God.

As to the Irish conflict: I once asked an Irish medical doctor what all the fighting was about. I had been led to believe it was a war between Christian sects. His words taught me a lesson. "No one likes a bully", which meant that the conflict was the direct result of the English invading Ireland. Yes the English brought their Anglican faith while the natives held to their RC faith and this served to define the conflict. The Dogans didn't hate the Protties near as much as the Irish didn't like the English. A sentiment I understand from my Welsh aunt who told me about being caned in school for speaking her native Welsh to her school chum.
