Econonix is hard.

"Some 800,000 government workers could be told to stay home and go without pay. However, they might get paid retroactively once the shutdown ends.

Those missing paycheques would have an impact on individual bank accounts, but depending on how long the shutdown lasts, the loss of income could also affect the broader economy. The affected public servants would essentially be unemployed, pumping less cash into an economy that very much needs it."

Well if they are not writing pay cheques presumably they don't need the tax revenue either; but I wouldn't test that out with the IRS...

Everything always works out ok--until one day--when someone else from another country wants to be your government!

"THE REIGN OF MORONS IS HERE" And guess who voted for, and supports those morons? You guys. (I felt I should answer that rhetorical question, as I couldn't be confident that you'd be able to answer it yourselves.)

Read this, and try to grasp just why this shutdown is stupid, dangerous and damaging.

http://www.esquire.com/blogs/politics/Shutdown_Blues?src=soc_fcbks

There are 4,374,406 Federal employees, so if Government is shut down, how come 3,574,406 are still working?

http://www.usdebtclock.org/index.html

Approx.18% reduction doesn't sound nearly the same as shut down, and would we even miss them if they didn't come back ? Doubt it.

Shutting down a non-productive entinty is stupid, dangerous and damaging? Wow. And you read Playboy for the articles, right? Once again for the leftards, government does NOT produce anything, except debt.

The US gov has shut down more than a dozen times in my lifetime. Trust me, nothing bad happens. There is no 'there' there...

John, Charles P Pierce , the author has a lefty opinion. Millions have a opinion. You and I have a opinion. His favorite blogs all lean to the left and have opinions. I,for one, disagree with his opinions. So your point was ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Pierce

John, the shutdown is just a minor obstacle on your path to emulate the economic miracle of Zimbabwe.

"Find yourself a food truck that serves monkey brains." is okay, but peanut butter sandwiches are racist!?

I am sure the Moron Nation will be quite happy with this acknowledgement (see http://ace.mu.nu/).

And by the way, this is a Canadian blog. I am not sure how any of us here in the GWN are allowed to vote for any morons currently occupying positions in the U.S. federal government. Although come to think of it, democratics were pretty good at getting-out the illegals to vote for O'bumbles. Maybe they trucked CBC employees to Detroit during the last election?

Bad link.

See what happens when you don't pay up to keep the economy rolling?

It would appear that the left bracket inadvertantly became part of the address when I left the reply.

Try this:

http://ace.mu.nu/

If that fails, just type "Ace of Spades HQ" into a search engine. That should get you where you want to go.

Letft bracket = Right bracket - doh!

TOILET, how is that econonix powerhouse, the USSR, working out today?????

and there have bin 17 shutdowns since 1976, so what the hell will another one do?????

Who expects the CBC to ever have an understanding of economics? As far as the CBC moonbats are concerned, money comes from the government and it's always been that way. They're early believers in the "you didn't build that" meme. As far as the CBC moonbats are concerned, central planning creates wealth. Why hasn't this statist obscenity been eliminated?

Hopefully the US government shutdown will go on for months as this would provide a significant economic stimulus given that the kleptocrats can't steal any more from the people who actually produce wealth. The enforcement of idiotic regulations will be curtailed and fewer stupid laws will be passed. If there were any smart politicians in the US, they would fire everyone in government except for the military. This would likely result in massive economic growth in the US following removal of repressive bureaucrats whose only goal seems to be obstructing anything that's good for the country. Let the chimp in chief beg for bananas on street corners.

The left can't even come up with excuses why small portions of the government shutting down is a bad thing.
This event should be a regularly scheduled feature not a bug.

That money's not there to expand the economy, which badly needs it? No worries. Toys r Us and Walmart are still open. Buy several Monopoly games, charter a chopper, and drop the money. Wasn't that what we were told in 2008?

This whole thing is stupid, Obama Care's 2000 plus page document, was written by the insurance companies. If the the republicans were in power, they would of supported it too. They are in bed with the same criminals, and they would of just called it Romney care.
As you squabble about stupid things like this,(divide and conquer) and think that the right left are vastly different, but they vote for the same bills. As they both, push through the the real bills like agenda 21 (carbon tax)(free trade with China, what a joke nothing is free there)and then you sit there and wonder why you have marshal law and the country is bankrupt.

The math question that CBC writers have never been asked.

What is the better deal for Mary?

(a) John (yes, I know it's baiting) pays Susie $50,000 a year and Susie gives him $15,000 back.

or,

(b) John stops paying Susie

Well, since we don't know the relationship between Mary, Susie, and John, we can't tell. If Mary and Susie are live-in lovers, A is better for her. If Mary is Johnny's husband, B is better for her. If Mary is a comedienne from another province who likes to dress up as Xena, a whack with a two-by-four is better for her.

Hey! Shhhhhhhhhhhhh!

You're confusing John (and the CBC).

"Lost productivity" is how some genius analysts put it at one of the big news networks. And they were serious.

Of the 3.5 million employees unaffected by the shutdown 1.4 million are in the military. Which begs the question of who are the other 2.1 million and what do they do? I mean, just how many people are working for the NSA spying on their fellow citizens?

The CBC is full of Keynesian libtards who honestly believe that government spending creates prosperity by injecting money into the economy. It hasn't occurred to them that the government has to suck the money out of the economy beforehand in order to have something to inject.

In other news, bloated bureaucracies are included in productivity statistics by the media's 'Economists' and my grandmother makes fudge.

They get vacation pay, as long as they have any. It will be a couple of weeks until this is much more than a forced vacation for civil servants.

They(CBC) are gov't workers too, and by justifying gov't workers in the USA and the good those workers wages do to the economy, they are essentialy trying to justify their own.

The fact that the US gov't is taking $85,000,000,000.00/month directly from the fed(No bond auction!), I suppose one could say, those gov't workers wages are being pumped in to the economy, and likely aren't being paid from income tax receipts.

When this whole thing crashs, and the dust settles, most people in the first world will begin to beleive in time travel, as it'll seem like they're all living in the 17th century!

Well John "reset buttons" are getting pushed all around world whether you like it or not. "You guys" are gonna do some squealing and that's OK as long as you take your buyouts, early pensions and otherwise stay out of the way.

That's their job at the end of the day, is it? Pumping cash into the economy because otherwise A cannot purchase A plus B?

There's more than one way to skin that cat. Fire them all, mail everyone their national dividend cheque every month and be done with it. The ones who can do anything else an advanced industrial civilization actually needs done will find something else to do in no time.

There will be no economic recovery and no growth in the United States until those 800,000 workers who got told to stay home for the "shutdown" are laid off permanently. They form the fluffy candy coating of the dungball that the US Government has become. They run all the frufru "services" which suckers think they are getting for "free".

Same as our "free" healthcare. If Canadians got refunded every penny of tax that goes to our idiot health system in this country, and then paid cash for the services they actually -USE-, we would see an explosion of prosperity and progress here that would dwarf the post-war boom.

Every media outlet you see the words "government shutdown" on is part of a maximum-effort propaganda push. It is so obvious and so brazen that small children can tell its bullsh1t. The only people pushing it are either idiots who drank the bong water or the ones whose income depends on the scam continuing. CBC would be right up there at the top of both lists.

Democrat Tip O'Neill shut down Reagan's government twelve times. According to Chris Matthews Boehner is a terrorist, but apparently Tip O'Neill was a patriot.

http://m.newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2013/09/29/tea-party-congressman-makes-fool-chris-matthews-concerning-shutdowns

Yes... he has a "lefty opinion", but this part is not an opinion, but fact:

The GOP has "shut down the federal government because it disapproves of a law passed by a previous Congress, signed by the president, and upheld by the Supreme Court, a law that does nothing more than extend the possibility of health insurance to the millions of Americans who do not presently have it, a law based on a proposal from a conservative think-tank and taken out on the test track in Massachusetts by a Republican governor who also happens to have been the party's 2012 nominee for president of the United States."

All fact. All driven by the far right.

Fortunately, they'll fry for this, and you lot will find yourself even further out in the political wilderness than you already are. Just try not to go all Timothy McVeigh or Eric Robert Rudolph on us, please.

Even before clicking on the link I knew it would be either CBC or the Red Star.

Interesting link Ken(Kulak)
Reagan was always excoriated by the left for increasing the debt but whenever the President attempted to deal with the spending he was blocked by the House.

The affected public servants would essentially be unemployed

Oh, the poor babies! "Essentially unemployed"! I've been actually (not just "essentially") unemployed twice. I devoted myself to finding work that needed to be done. I did it, and people paid me. In Silicon Valley, where I used to live and work, you're nobody unless you've been laid off at least once.

It is only cash into the economy because the wages for NON essential employees comes from the sales of bonds in a deficit plagued budget. IF there were no budget deficit, it would be robbing a resourceful Peter to pay a spendthrift Paul. All bonds have been purchased with digital ones and zeros from the Federal Reserve which is a nice way of saying the money was printed expressly for them via a legalized counterfeiting operation. The problem with this thinking by liberals is that the US Dollar is being devaluated and thus hurts the poor the most by driving up core costs of rent, food and energy as all of their income is focused on these core costs.

It's one thing to be scraping by with just a few bucks working a part time job, but it is salt in the wound when someone lives off of counterfeit (the Feds digitized ones and zeros) money on easy street. Where is the equality of outcome when the poor subsisting off of food stamps, Medicaid and unemployment insurance are to be condescendingly treated as a special needs child while liberals shower their operatives (government employees) with superior cash and benefits? Why the distinction? Both receive money from Fed purchases of US bonds and neither produce a product or service anyone really wants. You see the problem here?

I would like to make one distinction here regarding the National Park Service, Congress should consider privatizing it like the US Post Office but without the ongoing pratfalls currently experienced. Is it wrong to think that the fees collected using the Parks should be sufficient to support all of their operations?

pumping less cash into an economy that very much needs it.

You mean pumping less cash that comes from tax payers by overpaid paper pushers who don't produce any thing tangible, but more rules that slow the economy even worse.

paying them retroactively once the shut down is over absolutely defeats the purpose

The health act Romney had has little bearing on on Obamacare as it was a state initiative. Even as such:

"Drawbacks of Massachusetts Health Care Reform
Rapidly Increasing Health Care Costs
Although the 2006 health law has expanded insurance coverage for Massachusetts
residents, rapidly rising costs and expenditures pose a major threat to the sustainability of the
health care system. For example, in 2006, Massachusetts spent around $1 billion on Medicaid
and other health care programs.17 By 2009, this figure had soared to $1.75 billion.18
Additionally, in 2009, Massachusetts spent $9,278 per capita on health care, the highest total for
any state in the U.S.19 These health expenditures, as illustrated below in Figure 1, have exceeded
both the rates of economic growth and cost of living in Massachusetts. This is especially
worrisome considering that health expenditures will consume 54% of the state budget in fiscal
year 2012.20
Figure 1: Index of Per Capita Health Expenditures and Other Indicators in Massachusetts, 1991-2020 21"

Obamacare removes state control and forces one size fits all down their throats whether they want it or not. In its present form it's so complicated no one even understands it, which both sides of the house admit but the worst part is it's unaffordable in its present form. The nation is flat broke and trillions in debt. What part of flat broke dont you understand ? I'm all for basic medical care for everyone but someone has to pay for it. You and Obama have a lot in common when it comes to understanding that little fact. It's Obama that's refusing to tinker with his "baby", but his economic literacy is so poor one would think he has never progressed from his days as a community activist. But then, why should he? He's always been on the public teat and has never worked a day in his entire life. Unfortunately a good portion of his voting base has the same mentality and life experience. Still, someone has to pay for it.
