You call this a shutdown?

The latest big scare - perpetrated by proponents of big government is the so called "shutdown" of the US government. Yes, it will start becoming a more significant problem by mid November when the US won't be able to cover some interest payments on the debt - given that right now tax revenue doesn't even cover interest on the current debt and entitlement spending. But right now..no - to borrow from Shakespeare it is much ado about nothing.

When the House of Reps passes bills to fund things the President himself was bemoaning about shutting down ... and then the President refuses to take the money, what do you call that?

One commentator this morning termed it a strike by the President, who willingly is inflicting ‘pain' on the consumers of government services. IMHO, this is one strike that's going to backfire.

Not only that, the "won" has ordered normally unstaffed parks/scenic pulloffs barricaded shut at extra expense. Even privately operated parks which produce revenue as concessions are ordered shut.

A new term is coined...."barrycades"..........

Spiteful or what?

IMHO it is a 'big thing'! When the day comes that citizens do not blindly accept government assurances that 'everything will workout' the loss of confidence will cause panic. Supposedly financially savvy institutions will start blowing whistles but that has not happened yet in a serious way.

Why depend on somebody else to make your observations for you?

Institutions blowing whistles? Really?

As the headline says: Our moral and intellectual superiors?

Individuals already know their money is being stolen and wasted. No need to wait for somebody else to tell you how you should analyze the situation.

Piss or get off the pot!

Sasquatch, have you seen that the World War 1 memorial down the road a bit has no fence?

It has no fence because all the WWI vets are safely dead and not here to make trouble.

My Grandad was in the First Contingent. He would have kicked over the fence, for sure.

Let's see - IRS, NSA, ATF, DHS, FBI and now NPS. The United States has been conquered by the selective application of the alphabet agencies in support of the unvetted president's agenda.

This shutdown has been orchestrated by the Obamanation and his henchmen in order to discredit the Republicans. He's been blaming them ever since the "shutdown." It's a political ploy, designed to smear the opposition.

Zero's MO is unconscionable.

Andrew Klavan agrees with me!

The interviews [on CNN] with Republicans are hostile and challenging. The interviews with Democrats are opportunities to attack Republicans."

Cobblers. It won't come to that. On Wednesday the banks gave him an ultimatum---make a deal, or face "adverse consequences."

Baldly put, Obama is to see a deal is made and theft bonds continue to be serviced, or is to be replaced by someone who can.

the masses obviously aren't blaming the Republicans enough yet.

Just keep it shut down, endlessly. It's the only way the Yanks may finally understand that they have been living way beyond their means for far too long. It's a real eye opener to see just how much gubmint there is, in the so-called 'land of the free'. It's almost like it has become the new Soviet Union, with its myriad of gubmint agencies, and its endless layers of police and secret agencies to invetigate its own people, for what purpose, other than snooping.

What the insiders and the dinosaur media are afraid of is people getting used to doing without the government and possibly realizing they never needed what they were being sold for all these years.

Yes.. Obama is forcing those 80 or so teaparty Republicans to make @sses of themselves. It's all a clever plot hatched in a hut in Kenya.

He's even managed to trick this Republican congress woman to say something to make herself look like a total jackass. That's how devious he is:

http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/politics&id=9274425

"When ABC11 asked Ellmers earlier this week if she'd take her paycheck, she said she would: "The thing is I need my paycheck. That's the bottom line and I understand that maybe there are members who are deferring their paychecks and that's admirable," said Ellmers. "I'm not in that position."

And yet, she has no trouble f$cking 800,000 people out of theirs. People just like you guys votes for this numbnuts. Bravo.

Yup keep the breadlines and national spy networks operating at full capacity at all costs, Obamba needs his useful idiot “million man army just as strong and just as well funded as the military”.

In case you haven't heard, the 800,000 people will still be paid.

Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

Your next attempt at a point?

I heard the shutdown was so bad even MSNBC had to furlough 50 of their staff.

" the US won't be able to cover some interest payments on the debt"

Nonsense. Federal revenue exceeds debt service by a 5:1 ratio. Debt gets paid first, then social security, then Medicare.

They could keep the debt ceiling where it is indefinitely and we still wouldn't have to default on the debt. In fact, it would LOWER the risk of default, since the economy would grow but the debt wouldn't and it'd be easier to service as a % of GDP.

There is precisely ZERO chance that refusal to hike the debt ceiling will result in default.

You know: I expect Obama, the Democrats and the Dems posing as "journalists" to deliberately lie about this. Seeing Conservative bloggers ignorant about it is very disheartening.

Callawyn, +1. I was planning on making the same point. There is plenty of money to service the debt and it is the only spending that the Administration is legally obligated to make, since it is not a political promise but an incurred obligation.
