The NY Times' Maureen Dowd has quite a vivid imagination about reducing the out-of-control growth of big government. Here's a sampling:

The peeling columns of the Lincoln Memorial, and Abe's majestic head, elegant hands and big feet are partially submerged in sludge. Animals that escaped from the National Zoo after zookeepers were furloughed seven decades ago migrated to the memorials, hunting for food left by tourists.
The white marble monuments are now covered in ash, Greek tragedy ruins overrun with weeds. Tea Party zombies, thrilled with the dark destruction they have wreaked on the planet, continue to maraud around the Hill, eager to chomp on humanity some more.

About the only good line in the entire article,what drivel this woman writes!
What is sad, even terrifying, is the number of positive comments about this vicious hit piece against anyone who disagrees with her politics.
That's the scenario after all the money lenders come to collect the debt owed to them. They will run out of other people,s money, its just a matter of time.

After reading the excerpt I thought "WTF?" and read it again and STILL thought WTF?

To the board of directors of the NYT: Why don't you just FIRE Dowd and print recipes or weather reports in place of her column? It serves no purpose. Readers can get plenty and more insightful political opinion from the internet for free.

The first commenter after that drivel states that she misses Sen Ted Kennedy because he would straighten out the speaker of the house. That was enough for me. Nobody misses drunken philandering Ted and the family of Mary Jo Kopechne especially does not miss Ted Kennedy.
The left looks at government as a shrine of morality, a symbol of virtue, an instrument of equalization of human outcomes. For the "rude" and barbaric classes who have the gall to attack it and actually shut it down, it is an event for example, equivalent to Christians seeing their Churches burned to the ground by savages. Hence the hysteria masquerading as an informed opinion.
The reality is despite their "enlightened" intentions, the left enables their beloved state to increase coercion over the citizenry to an eventual level where the human condition has returned to de-facto feudalism. The political means is by pimping the mindless into slavery (addiction to "free" stuff), an indulgence of all progressives of all parties.
The enemy of the progressive is a free born citizen, knowledgeable of the Constitution, content to self-govern in almost all aspects of life save collective defense, police and a system of Courts. The Tea Party and a hand full of Republicans working for them scare the hell out of the progressives for this reason. As botched as the GOP has made this, a long "shutdown" will be more enlightening to the mindless than their pimps.

After reading a few lines in each paragraph, I realized that I had already watched the movie and that this gal was stealing it as her own idea. The movie called "The Road" is her template. Never accuse anyone in the msm of having an original thought! "The Road" was a middle of the night on the West coast filler type movie; grey, depressing,empty....but this gal saw it and she put it to paper in her own name. She could not even stretch her imagination to change the son and dad to mom and daughter!
The name calling and finger pointing are not in the movie.
