And that's why the landmines surround the garden.

The parents will riot. They'll storm the S. Board offices. They'll withdraw tbere kids and homeschool. They will.....

No? You don't think so?

Gee. You got to wonder why they think they can get away with this crap, eh?

Liable chill - pure and simple.

No easy way out of it either.

Yes there is an easy way out....KILL ALL THE LAWYERS...

What the country really needs is tort reform. The ability to sue anyone for anything is making a lot of ambulance chasers happy but is destroying everything that once made the free world proud and independent. The USA, Canada and much of Europe has turned into a collection of weenies, whiners and wingnuts. Lawyers, HRC's,social activists and liberal judges have done more than their share in contributing to the destruction of a once normal society. Todays normal is very sick indeed.

"What the country really needs is tort reform."

What "our countries" need is for ordinary people to get off their arses, get angry, start yelling, and take action.

Weak children are no future. If they want to carry the debt burden the boomers are racking up they will need to be strong.

They should be training like Spartans.

Well said Peter. Jamie is right though, tort reform will not happen until the people demand it. The American people did not seem interested about medical tort reform during the last election. By the time they, and us, wake up everything will be banned except learning how to put on a condom.

The liberals are just doing their best to prepare the youth to submit to the caliphate.

Yes, I agree. Some states have taken baby steps to fight the problem and I think gains are being made.

There is still a long way to go and plenty of obstacles along the way as lawyers see a smaller version of the gravy train :

along with tort reform they need to make administration at these schools do their job, instead of passing another law every time one of the political idiots think we need one

I remember reading about a Sioux Indian game, back in the day, called "Knock them down and knee them in the face till they bleed." Doesn't involve any balls so it may pass muster with this school-LOL

I guess you can still play "murder ball" with a nerf ball. More the elbows, knees and fists that are a concern, but just a minor one.

"...Soon, additional schools may be jumping on the banning balls bandwagon..."

Banning Balls Bandwagon. Boy, did that say it all.

The author probably has no idea of the wonderful double entendre that the phrase brings to the story.

The whole idea of recess was to ban physical inactivity!

Who repealed that? Reinstate it, now.

It's easier to keep the kids on Ritalin than let them have fun. A drugged up student is a good student.

While I definitely agree with the comments about the need for tort reform I have to ask if it REALLY IS about liability?? If so, why did the school officials not simply state that liability was the issue? Why dance around it? They would have received a lot more sympathy, if not actual support, from parents if they simply had stated the insurance costs were too high and/or they were being sued too often.

On the other hand the statements of the doctor (head injuries, bumps, scrapes; worried about concussions) and the school administration about a "rash of playground injuries" are equally evasive since they are either minor and/or they present no data at all to support them.

For info, middle school typically = 11 thru 13 year old kids (a few 14s who were held back).

Actually this insane policy has been in force in Morontario elementary schools for some years.

NO Soccer...no balls...
No running.......

In schools fitted out with indoor basketball nets (gyms) and outdoor basketball nets in the "playground" (where the children are forbidden to play....)

They get away with it because 'Mother' agrees 100% with it. This keeps the children safe. Dad may not agree, but he has learned to keep his mouth shut.

Pretty much it, Bobbye. Pretty much it.

Q: What do you get when you cross cowardice with stupidity?

A: A kid who can't play ball.
