Thank you, Malaysia

NUSA DUA, Indonesia - Prime Minister Stephen Harper arrived in Bali for an Asia-Pacific leaders' summit Sunday bearing what could be called a $36-billion vote of confidence from Malaysia's state-owned oil and gas company.

Update, link fixed....

Here is a better link regarding "$36-billion vote of confidence from Malaysia's state-owned oil and gas company."

Here's the link you meant to provide:

Worth noting in passing that the Canadian press pooh-poohed the PM's visit to Malaysia, saying it was totally overshadowed by the Chinese visit. But I suppose that was before they realized that Petronaas is investing $42 billion (yes, Matthew, that's billion with a B) in Canada ($36 B for gas pipelines, along with a previous $6 B for Progress Energy).

It is interesting to read in the comments in the NP article how the liberals and their commie friends are slagging this deal. Of course if this comes to fruition this deal will put pressure on the US.

Thank you for the link, G.

You got that right cgh. Watched Milewski make a fool of himself the other night, saying Harper was waiting his time. Poor Milewski still can't keep his hatred of Harper in check.

No idea how I ended up with CBC on.

Good call there cgh, heavens actual Canadians might be employed, which would enhance tax revenue, decrease overall standing debt, provide employment and lower tax rates.

I'm sure the 'statists' will all be having a conniption.

I loooooove this story!

Unlike how the Liberal/NDP/'progressive left always demands to use "other people's money" (= our's; not their's), this Malaysian deal REALLY DOES use "other people's money"! ... so of course the left is howling about it!

And Post Media News reporter, Matthew Fisher, in the Friday Vancouver Sun denigrated Harper's attempts at trade talks in Malaysia, quoting a Malaysian director of foreign and strategy policy, saying " ... Canada is absent from our minds .." and that the Chinese delegation "overshadows" Harper's initiatives. Maybe so, but $36 billion, it seems to me, ain't too shabby.

Well, I'm not happy with foreign governments invested in our resource sector, especially goon governments. But then, we are not in a position to be too choosey are we. Thanks to the Green Commies and Liebrals.

Holy Frac!

I wonder which Horn River Basin energy company they will buy up?

Encana is cheap and well situated 17.40$ down from 24$ a year ago

They already bought Progress and started the submission for EA review. they wish to export their first load of LNG in 2018, very ambitious to say the least.

A cynic might look at all the big deals like this taking place around the world
these days and start to muse about how large and powerful a country would have
to be if they were comfortable backstopping such ventures.

Anyone done the arithmetic to forecast LNG prices in these countries after all the proposed production facilities are brought on line around the world? Virtually every gas producing country is planning LNG to capitalize on the $14/K that SE Asia is paying. I suspect that competition will drop that price like a stone.

As our Dear Leader here in BC makes the rounds with promised spending based on anticipated tax revenue I have to laugh.

From Wiki
Revenue US$ 97.35 billion (2012)
Net income US$ 21.91 billion (2012)
Total assets US$ 157.37 billion (2012)
Total equity US$ 89.29 billion (2012)

It makes no sense that a company would invest 1/4 of its total assets in a country with one of the highest costs of production. Why don't they rape Africa like the Chinese? I doubt the Malaysian thing will happen in the scale announced. I think the big number is simply bling to bedazzle the Round Eye.
