In tonight's diversion en route to the tips Hockey Night in Canada's Don Cherry brings his avant-garde piano stylings to his "Coach's Corner" segment.

Let's face it, the guy is good.

The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

Obamacare glitch good not very.

Incroyable.

Re: Don Cherry!!

He may be good--but he does tax one's nerves!

Yes, Don Cherry is a pretty good stylist, but Stephen Harper is better. More mainstream, yes, and less imaginative, but a better pianist overall.

Obamacare glitch?

Still,
you have to give the Canadians credit for peddling this turkey website to Obama.

634 million, with more being paid out each month..

stick it to his dumbness for not passing Keystone.

No one believed it was a plot the last time either. Have times really changed that much or is history repeating ? Love a good conspiracy theory.

Thank-you for the excellent link peterj.

"Designed to fail" Makes one wonder why anyone would believe or trust the words of known liars. Past conduct gave people ample warning.

Entertaining ourselves to death; panic during the rogers blackout:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/five-tales-of-panic-from-the-rogers-outage/article14844718/

I thought we'd have people talking about having to pick up their child/ren from daycare and not being able to get through. Or, children at home trying to contact their parents; or, people in a bidding war for a house and having to close their deal by a certain time; or a pregnant woman going into labour and trying to contact their husband.

What "tales of panic" are we treated to? Check out the link. One has to do with a signed Backstreet Boys CD and another, a text to a girl not returned. Oy vey.

Fiddling while Rome burns ~ texting in vain while Washington implodes.

Language matters.

Obama's taken Western Civilization to a new low. In fact, he's taken it so low that it's about to disappear Stateside. That Obamacare question is excruciating. How is anyone supposed to answer it? Obamacare = Obamascare.

While taking Western Civ down, Zero's raised Catch-22s to new heights. 'Wrong kind of see-saw, Obumbles.

Just found this short speech by Putin on cdnfirearms mailing list. Again, Putin demonstrates a far better knowledge of who is the enemy and how to deal with that enemy:

Putin's Speech on Feb. 04, 2013
This is one time our elected
leaders should pay attention to the advice of Vladimir Putin....
how scary is that ?

On February 4th, 2013, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, addressed the
Duma, (Russian Parliament), and gave a speech about the tensions with
minorities in Russia:

"In Russia live Russians. Any minority, from anywhere, if it wants to live
in Russia, to work and eat in Russia, should speak Russian, and should
respect the Russian laws.
If they prefer Sharia Law, then we advise them to go to
those places where that's the state law. Russia does not need
minorities. Minorities need Russia, and we will not grant them
special privileges, or try to change our laws to fit their desires, no
matter how loud they yell 'discrimination'.
We better learn from the suicides of America, England, Holland and France,
if we are to survive as a nation. The Russian customs and traditions are
not compatible with the lack of culture or the primitive ways of most
minorities. When this honorable legislative body thinks of
creating new laws, it should have in mind the national interest first,
observing that the minorities are not Russians."

The politicians in the Duma gave Putin a five minute standing ovation.

It is a sad day when a Communist makes more sense than the US President, but
here it is!

Adventures in Obamacare

... No remotely competent IT person could have composed that logically incoherent statement of the requirement for a username.

OK. Who's cousin, nephew/niece, brother/sister got the multi-million dollar contract to design the Web site for the Obamacare rollout? Jarrett's? Moochelle's? Sharpton's? Jackson's? It most certainly defies logic.

At Conservatives4Palin, Doug Brady quotes Moody's Investors Service:

We believe the government would continue to pay interest and principal on its debt even in the event that the debt limit is not raised, leaving its creditworthiness intact. The debt limit restricts government expenditures to the amount of its incoming revenues; it does not prohibit the government from servicing its debt. There is no direct connection between the debt limit (actually the exhaustion of the Treasury’s extraordinary measures to raise funds) and a default.

(emph. mine)

"The memo offers a starkly different view of the consequences of congressional inaction on the debt limit than is held by the White House, many policymakers and other financial analysts. During a press conference at the White House Tuesday, Obama said missing the Oct. 17 deadline would invite 'economic chaos.'"

Socialism: "the religion of the stomach."

"Shelves in Two Lousiana Walmarts Cleared When Welfare Recipients Thought They Were Getting Free Food"

"But the entitlement mentality is a myth!

Shelves in Walmart stores in Springhill and Mansfield, LA were reportedly cleared Saturday night, when the stores allowed purchases on EBT cards even though they were not showing limits.

The chaos that followed ultimately required intervention from local police, and left behind numerous carts filled to overflowing, apparently abandoned when the glitch-spurred shopping frenzy ended."

Ex-Israeli Soldier Denounced on US Campus for Not Raping Palestinian Women

"Is the relative lack of IDF rapes a noteworthy phenomenon,...?
“the lack of organized military rape is an alternate way of realizing [particular] political goals.”

http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/ex-israeli-soldier-denounced-on-us-campus-for-not-raping-palestinian-women/

Apparently, not raping Palestinian women shows that you do not consider them worthy of rape, and makes you a racist.

A slow news day at the CBC,or business as usual?

They have resurrected Brigitte DePape, the silly senate page, and featured her as the lead story on their politics page.

Regarding the comparison of the Stalin's treatment of the Ukrainian peasantry and the Obamacare website fiasco. Stalin's war on the peasants was intentional, especially so on the Ukrainians as the vast majority resisted collectivization, particularly the Ukrainian and Siberian peasant farmers. They also had been very cool toward the Bolsheviks and resisted Lenin's collectivization policy.

Obama's fiasco is just plain incompetence. Bolsheviks never did know how to competently implement any policy, except doing away with or marginalizing opponents, as the interests and needs of the people was never important, just the socialist ideology.

Loki, "It is a sad day when a Communist makes more sense than the US President, but here it is!". Exactly, however it does appears that ex-communist might be a better descriptor. I had my doubts about Putin's support of a democratic transition from communism to democracy. Under Yeltsin the Russian mafia was taking over the country and I thought Putin will take care of the mafia, but time will tell, so I gave him lots of rope. A people that has never known democracy except for a brief period in 1917 can not learn what we did over hundreds of years. I have moved from 50% to 51%. It is obvious that he is very concerned about the Russian nation and not a Marxist global village.

"It is obvious that he is very concerned about the Russian nation and not a Marxist global village."

Same as Stalin.
On 9 August 1999, Vladimir Putin was appointed one of three First Deputy Prime Ministers, which enabled him later on that day, to be appointed acting Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation by President Boris Yeltsin. Yeltsin also announced that he wanted to see Putin as his successor.
On 31 December 1999, Yeltsin unexpectedly resigned and, according to the constitution, Putin became Acting President of the Russian Federation.

The 2011 Democracy Index stated that Russia was in "a long process of regression culminated in a move from a hybrid to an authoritarian regime" in view of Putin's candidacy and flawed parliamentary elections.

Putin has basically been running Russia for 14 years. As I said, he is more like Stalin than Trotsky, however, corporate fascism is back in vogue in many countries as it was in the early 20th century.
Putin wrote his dissertation on that very topic, euphemistically calling national fascist corporations 'National Champions'.(example Gazprom)
Like Stalin(and Hitler), Putin is also cultivating a personality cult.

Time will indeed tell, but democracy is not exclusive to western liberalism.

"Democracy is indispensable to socialism."
~Vladimir I. Lenin

"It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything."
~Ioseph Stalin
