That being the world view of Canada in decline under the Harper Gov't.

Fear? Imagine Trudeau was the one at the helm.

Yeah.

and no one has commented at ctv site, is this article just poorly written to understand? rambling...

If Justin was in charge we would have free trade between BC and Amsterdam only

A surprisingly complimentary article from the Canadian Press.

Mulcair has been saying for the past few days that PM Harper skipped the HofC to avoid answering questions about the senate 'scandal'. He was wrong again.
As for Justin,he's an idiot.I cannot imagine him dealing with anything important that required him to think on his feet.

Imagine trudeau at the helm? I have. God help us all.

Trudeau would make Obama look like a genius so indeed, "God help us all"!

Last spring when the wife and I were taking part in one of Victor Hanson's tours we noted that our
American friends agreed that the only worthwhile politician in the world was Stephen Harper.
And that was a tough audience!

Pierre Trudeau, who was a far smarter man than his son, was regarded as nothing more than
a playboy in western Europe, where I resided and worked for much of his reign.

I think our Loki did. He knows his cheeses.

Terry Anderson is right. God help us.

I sure hope PM Harper washed his hand after shaking hands with the old Marxist Barroso.

The irony in all this is that Harper succeeded where Trudeau failed. The Third Way was Trudeau's attempt to move more Canadian trade to Europe. It died from Euro indifference almost immediately. Unlike Trudeau, Harper has always been interested in economic issues, and it takes persistence and endurance to get them done.

Europe isn't the only one. Harper also broke the decades-long logjam over nuclear trade with India as well, and that's opened even more opportunities.

American and Canadian trade interests are not in lock step as in previous decades. Keystone XL is simply the last example. It is becoming very apparent that Canada under Harper is actively pursuing diversification away from the dominant USA trade relationship. The EU deal is nice but the real target has to be the SE Asia free trade deal and enhanced trade with China. I might point out that the USA actively prevented Canadian participation the Asia free trade talks until about a year ago.

Canada is faced by a international group who are actively preventing oil sands development. The wealth that oil would bring to Canada causes serious problems in the ME and problems for our neighbors Russia and the USA. A rich Canada has an enhanced ability to demand more for resources, defend our Artic sovereignty and ultimately deny the export of fresh water to the USA.

The David Suzuki's of this world are simply useful pawns in a much more serious geopolitical struggle of maintaining access to scarce resources in Canada.

I don't think it is the job of any member of our government to simply raise Canada's international standing.
So far as I'm concerned the job of our politicians and government should be to look after the interests of our citizens, without regard to anyone's regard.
It is our opinions and only our opinions that should concern Canada's government.
I also don't think that they have any business looking after the interests of anyone else but Canadians. Not "Palestinians", not Somalis, not Muslims. If citizens wish to look after the interests of others, they should do so privately.

"...Pierre Trudeau, who was a far smarter man than his son..."

Well that's certainly a put-down for Turdo la Doo, because there is absolutely nothing of substance to support the myth that Turdo le First was a genius.

a) He lacked the intellectual rigour to continue his studies at Harvard,

b) He was universally viewed as a clown on the international stage,

and last, but not least.......

c) He married shaggy Maggie.

Sure ... but you completely miss the point.
IN SPITE of the constant drumbeat of the left in regard to THEIR distorted world view and efforts to demonize conservatives. The lie is exposed.

The goal is to achieve substantial economic and security gains. Respect is the side effect.

Unlike the sniveling attempts to curry favor (liberals) or the faux moralizing of the communist NDP, we have a government that is capable of rising above rhetoric and seeking accomplishment.

If Steven Harper and Justine Turdo were in the offices of Mensa, Justines function would be to carry Harpers brief case.An unemployed Drama Teacher of his qualifications would have no other reason for being in the room.
