What could possibly go wrong?

Oh well, every princess should have his own wizard to run things.

Another effen "journalist", just what we all need. I hope the Conservatives win in a vote split with the other lulubell ndp candidate.

If she were to be a cabinet minister, would she again run off to daddy seeking approval?
What makes her think she's qualified for anything?

The unqualified employed by the unqualified. Liberal economics...

Apparently she broke the company she was working for. No golden parachute or juicy severance I guess. No wonder she is headed for government where the nasty reality of the 'bottom line' never is an issue.

Funny how the vast majority of politicans on both sides of the aisle are failures in real life. I have always advocated a basic competency test for anyone who runs for public office. It would do wonders for raising the bar for those who spend so much of our money!

CT, very few of them have ever met payroll for employees. their understanding of economics for themselves is non-existant especially in Turdos case, let alone the muddled asses out here who have to vote for the least smelly politician. This case is soooo liberal Toronto, please mummy pay my way, I know I'm 40 but but.

It could have been worse. She defeated a community organiser for the Liberal nomination. Nor is she a Power Corp acolyte.

I don't see that she has any positive qualifications other than being a farm girl from Alberta.

So right away we know she's unwilling to live within her means. Champions of the middle class indeed.

Obviously this federal liberal consortium is manufacturing a caucus with rock star image -Kardasian Libranos as it were - totally shallow and devoid of the qualities/skills/instincts needed to cope with the issues of responsible government and the needs of real Canadians outside the privileged bubble the Liberal leadership resides within.

The choice of Freeland (another gated community detached GTA effete) reveals that the Liberal party operators are still in a "business as usual influence peddling, just fool the sheeple better this time" modus operandi. They have learned nothing on the opposition bench, they have not done soul searching to determine why they were rejected for being so corrupt and reforming the way they do politics. They have doubled down on the dark side of political connivance and are crafting a purely pop star-strawman leadership/caucus so that liberal party operators within bureaucracy and in their effete patronage network actually run policy and craft the "deals" that the rock star cabinet will rubber stamp.

If this lot attain power we will see ad-scams, shawinigates, APECs, tainted blood-scams, Ciprogates ten fold worse than the Chretien regime (the most corrupt federal regime ever). It is my perception these patronage payoffs have already been struck to secure financial and media patronge and the agenda is underway to craft the greatest political fraud of Canadian history - similar to what they suffer under in the US.

If this Strawman Librano syndicate assume federal power expect the public coffers to be opened to every prehensile party toady imaginable, expect a predatory government that will vacuum up every penny of private property and wealth it can, also expect the most authoritarian regime the nation has ever seen with the RCMP acting as a personal policy enforcement army for the Cabinet. Look south now, this is what a rock star inept leadership with an insider syndicate running government looks like - we have one forming here - a political syndicate of Liberal Operators, sycophant media and crony special interests fronted by Pop star leadership.

Just like what we see in the US the unholy triad of Media-insiders-Democrats will yield a uber-kleptocracy with jackboots to shut down evidence of its crimes. I can see that happening here with a Trudeau-led triumvirate. It's obvious he has Obama-like media on the payroll to canonize him and cover his transgressions, it is also obvious his handlers are targeting the same LIVs that the Obama Dems did. It's also becoming evident the future Librano regime is centered out of a major urban center where political cronyism kleptocracy and media cronyism is the culture - here GTA,there Chicago. Obama has his online zombie army, we see the social media network the Trudeau liberals are setting up he needs to strike a deal with the public service unions and the klepto-triumvirate is complete. It is and can happen here people.

See it, fear it and warn others.

'Land title documents list Freeland’s given name Christina, not the Ukranian iteration “Chrystia”...'

What's a "Ukranian?"

People who are happy and successful in "real life" tend to avoid politics. Unfortunately for all of us, politics is a very important part of real life, if for no other reason than it's potential as a playground for those who aren't happy and successful to get hold of levers of power with which they can share their unhappiness and lack of success with the rest of us.

Smart choice, Justine.

Maybe her parents can co-sign for the debt your father got Canada into and that we are still struggling to get out of.

Commies all!

Good comment, occam. This is why I fear the Boy-Prince, LIV's abound in Canada,as they do in the U.S., and the complicit media is about to sell him 24/7 just like they did Obama down South.

I hope we can once again inspire the grownups to get out and do the hard work required to get our people elected in 2015.

And for hunters and other legitimate gun owners, take a good look at what Obama is trying to do regarding guns down there, and remember we don't have Constitutional protection or a "right to bear arms".

In their first term, the Liberals will bring back the LGR and bring in loads of onerous legislation to make owning guns more trouble than it's worth to a lot of us. This will create a situation like England, a few wealthy gun owners with their firearms locked in bank vault type safes.

Second term with a Liberal majority will be our last term as legal firearms owners.

Oh, I'm sure "Chrystia" is well able to pay. Scotia must have insisted on someone with a Canadian address to co-sign on grounds of her insufficient Canadian credit history, and she after spending most of her adult life in New York City.

The real question is why they did it at all. Surely the daughter of a Ukrainian family from Alberta with any self-respect would have disowned her long since for running off to become the trollop of some rich man from New York, whose fat cats bankrolled the Ukrainian famine and whose papers hushed it up---and that before they tried to do the same to Alberta. "She who troubles her father's house...!"

"Freeland’s new home is located in the eastern panhandle of what will become the riding of “University – Rosedale,” a name only slightly less elitist that nickname some have cruelly tagged Freeland with, viz, “the Honourable Member for Davos.”"

My first impression of her based on her past career and status-seeking address is that she's a typical insufferable snob. Obviously that's based on the obnoxious pretentiousness of those who will now be her neighbors and not her. I guess that's a bit unfair but given the arrogant and condescending attitude of her political party and social circle turnabout is fair play. What is amusing to me is that well-to-do Liberal champions of the middle class actually find the lifestyle of the middle class quite icky - where they live, where they shop/what they buy, what they eat, their education or lack thereof, where they vacation, their sports and entertainment choices, etc. In reality, their middle class rhetoric is just a facade that covers up a toxic mix of Big Government and crony corporatism. Their solutions neither help the poor nor the middle class but as an (un)intended bonus those policies do inhibit social mobility and that ensures that the icky people can never afford to live near them (uber-progressive places like NYC and California have some of the worst economic inequality).

The Davos angle is interesting. I've been seeing it more often as the motivation behind progressive, internationalist politics. Reason had an amusing description about Thomas Friedman's evolving relationship with democracy - "This is a bit rich coming from a pundit whose head disappeared long ago into a Davos-shaped ass. Is there any prominent columnist more guilty of living in a bubble than Thomas Friedman?" To answer the question, yes, I believe Canada has quite a few prominent columnists who are just as or even more guilty. Voters need to understand more about Davos - what they believe and which politicians and journalists are pushing these ideas.

A million bucks just doesn't go as far as it used to.

Back in 1969, I bought my first house in Toronto for $25,000. A little 1 1/2 storey fixer-upper. Moved out of that 3 years later into a new house that cost $38,000. Unloaded that one two years later when I was transferred to Calgary.

And that first little first house? It has now been replaced by one of those million dollar models.

Her PARENTS co-sign for her mortgage?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Par for the course......

So? She wrote a book called "Plutocrats"; that doesn't mean she is one.

“After quitting her job to run for office, Chrystia was not eligible for a mortgage so her dad and step-mother stepped in to help her out,”

Makes sense to me.

One ca only hope these insufferable liberal fools loose their money along with the election.

Eastern Paul said,

"Her PARENTS co-sign for her mortgage?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Yes, and if she had lived in the USA that Barry is destroying, she could have stayed on their insurance until she was 26.

Wonderful isn't it?

What makes her think she's qualified for anything?

//The">http://www2.macleans.ca/2013/08/20/cant-hardly-wait/">The Peace River, Alta., native boasts a CV gilded offshore: Harvard B.A.; M.A. from Oxford, which she attended as a Rhodes scholar; successful career as a business journalist based in Russia, London and New York (with a two-year Toronto stint as Globe and Mail deputy editor) [ I don't imagine she "broke" THAT company, CT ...]
Freeland resigned her executive job running digital media at Thomson Reuters in New York, moved country with three children under age 10, and announced she was running for the Liberal nomination in the upcoming by-election for Toronto Centre. //

"Toronto Centre" Seems redundant somehow. Centre of the centre, as it were. Who wouldn't drop London & New York for that?
She'll be running against this guy, who was [quietly] "proclaimed" recently. I imagine she's the faster runner, especially since she had to run for the nomination.
Not that I'd be voting for her.

Sooooo, tell me, is she gonna claim "living expenses" while in Ottawa (or elsewhere) and file the requisite TD-4 exemptions?? Wonder what they claim daily for room and board for her tax free living expenses? Calling Mike Duffy et al.

"Chrystia Freeland on Friday closed on the purchase of a three-storey townhouse in Summerhill, in the Toronto Centre riding she hopes to win in an upcoming by-election."

Uh, there is no "in Summerhill" in Toronto. Summerhill is a street on the far west border of Rosedale, just north of Roxborough Drive. On Summerhill would work.

She's moved in so as not to be accused of being parachuted into the riding -- huh? She's clearly been parachuted in, a time-honoured Librano tactic -- and "to run in the traditionally safe Liberal seat vacated by Bob Rae, who lives nearby her new home."

Who the hell is writing this dreck? Facts wrong and English-challenged: "... lives nearby her new home"???? He actually doesn't live anywhere near Summerhill. Bob Rae lives in the chi chi Baby Point area of Toronto, about 25 minutes and 10 kms away.

Jeesh.

dizzy, mtgs ain't yer forte, are they, nor are they the writters forte. As some one who does not work, I still qualified for a mtg. Ya just gots to know how to do it. Now if'n they said that she could git a lower rate mtg with a co-signator, well I would say it was a smart move, butt then 1.3 mil ain't smart!!!!

I find Freyland's status as a Trudeau advisor disturbing. Trudeau other decisions have been largely sensible. It doesn't fit I don't know what to make of it.

An economist unable to live within her own means to advise how the rest of the Canadians should? Or is this more of a "don't worry middle class Canadians, there is always a way to milk someone for the lifestyle you think you deserve"?
