Presumably in SF it's illegal to drive in the rain as all of the dirt on vehicles gets washed into the storm drains. As far as soap goes, it's just a long chain fatty acid which bacteria love to eat. Doubt that very much would make it out of the storm drains. One could counter sue the city because they don't treat storm drain water and all of the heavy metals and, huge quantities of rubber from the steady wear caused by paved roads, are discharged into the environment. All one would need to shut down the SF storm drains would be a single minnow with a latex allergy.

I'd like to see a picture of the official responsible for this asinine ruling. If female, I suspect she's probably a hideous leftist hag who probably detests the nubile fit bodies of cheerleaders.

Calif. alone has 4550 full time employees at the EPA to regulate everything from snot to snowballs. They all stay very busy with their pride in regulation paper pushing.

This is just one small sector but you can see by the relevance of the paperwork that if 4500 were fired tomorrow the State might even be in a position to regain some sanity and stop the destruction of a once vibrant economy. Although I pray to the Sweet Saint of San Andreas as vigorously as any of you, in all fairness I'd like to point out that, in Calgary, you will be fined for washing your car on the street in front of your home. The soapy water runs off into the storm drains and directly into the river system. Presumably Calgary commercial car washes drain into the sewer system.

Here locally, the Country Roads people were forbidden to connect their wash bays to the new sewer.....

Commercial car washes recycle their water for the same reason....the sand settles out and you, in practice are giving your vehicle a brine bath....as if ya washed the sucker in the ocean.....makes vehicles biodegradable.....

It is unpossible for Cheerleaders to harm the environment.

In Switzerland, it's been illegal to wash your car for years. That said, motorsports of any kind are illegal there as well. Whoever said the Nazis lost the war is flat wrong...

Michael Thellig, the team principal just called back. He says circuit racing in Suisse has been banned since 1951 because of the great Mercedes crash at Le Mans. Somehow rallying and go-karting is okay. Hillclimbing too, just not actual racing on an actual track.

Regarding Yop's comment about Calgary, I was recently told I couldn't wash my trailer other than at a truck wash - even on a gravel parking pad.

Hey, I don't disagree. (I even let nature wash my Jeep, although it's pretty obvious that detergents remove a lot that rain won't.) It's quite possible that detergents in storm sewers are especially problematic, but I don't have the expertise to comment on that, and I don't have the time to Google around and pretend I know about this stuff. For all I know, these laws are useless.

However, I do know 1) that it's not illegal to wash one's car in Switzerland; 2) that all motorsport is not illegal there; 3) that the Le Mans disaster happened in 1955; and 4) that Switzerland is a relatively free country. So I commented on those things.
