Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

$$$$$$$$ 634 MILLION. For website development.
Because governments can deliver public services sooooooo efficiently.
It is not like the USA has any budget deficit problems or anything.
Good. Maybe if low information voters realize that election have consequences (sometimes disastrous) they'll start start paying to politics instead of sports scores and American Idol and whatever the hell the Kardashians are doing.
Al, don't hold your breath. Free lunches trump, always.
HAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am beginning to enjoy Obamacare!
BTW the Canadian system worked well from the outset. The real, structural
problems became manifest only relatively slowly.
Ooops.. that should read 'start paying attention to politics....
I need more caffeine.
Is it just me, or does the American personality rely more on bluster than on intelligence as it travels the road of life?
I love going to the States, but listening to the politicians and their stupid analogies makes me wonder ... if these are the best and brightest, then how dumb are the rest?
Ken, I think that having their health premiums triple (or more than triple) while having their work hours and hence salary cut by 25% and eventually being fined by the IRS should wake up a few million people. Not to mention the 'barrycades' at national parks, not paying for child cancer research etc. It won't affect the free stuff army since they don't pay for anything anyway but the last few elections were decided by very slim margins, Obama won the 2012 election with 51.07% of the popular vote.
If three percent (or more) of Obama voters wake up and smell the coffee and vow to never vote Democrat again that changes American politics for a generation or two.
This is why the Donkeys have a pathological fear of "voter ID"......
That's why Dems want Amnesty so badly. They need a whole new crop of voters.
Al, you had it right the first time!
The code link is especially interesting. It is apparently the JavaScript code that is used to register a new "client." Typical JS packages are a few to a few dozen lines. This monstrosity is nearly half a megabyte! That makes it painfully obvious why this codebase will never support a large number of users. Its direct availability is also an irresistable target for identity thieves.
Did they use the same idiots that built the long gun registry in Canada? This thing has the finger prints of Wendy Cukier all over it!
Oh....and by the way...those aren't "glitches"....they are FEATURES.
That's not a bug its a feature. The whole plan from the outset has been Single Payer. Screwing up the website and exchanges along with 'taxes' is designed to heard the masses toward acceptance of single payer.
I understand similar serious start-up problems are still plaguing the launch of veteran studio Rockstar's over $1 Billion GTA V Online.
They must be filthy democrats too then.
$634 million is still less than the $1 billion plus wasted by e-Health Ontario, and the 300 million population USA is notably larger than 14 million person Ontario.
Let's have some perspective here :^)
It will be a monumental task for the US media to hide these failures from the public. It will require all the resources they have, but I am sure they are up to it.
Perhaps....but the meter is still ticking on the Obamacare website and this is just the start. Just wait....it will balloon to about the same cost as sending men to Mars. To say nothing of the "creative accounting" that the Obama administration is no doubt engaging in.
Apparently an IT firm in Canada is a big part of the problem. "A Canadian firm is at the heart of America’s historic health care overhaul – and smack in the middle of a political maelstrom. A unit of CGI Group Inc., the information technology giant based in Montreal, is the main contractor behind the new federal marketplace for health insurance. The system is the centrepiece of the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare." (Globe and Mail: "Canadian IT firm at centre of Obamacare foul-up furor")
how dare you say something that our lord Obama touched is no good!! the IRS will be sent immediately./sarcasm off.
It's also mostly called remotely which means more traffic between the client and the server. One technician counted 56 separate JS calls. What's interesting about all this is that the company that produced the code was extremely proud of it back in June. You can see their comments here and here. Both of these blog posts are well worth reading. I'm surprised they're still up.
Joe said, "The whole plan from the outset has been Single Payer."
I used to think that. I don't anymore. The D's could only get this obamanation off the ground because they held three of the four branches and the R's had a defector in Supreme Court.
The odds of that happening again...which would be required to implement single-payer is not good. At least not in the next demographic memory.
There is this:
http://tinyurl.com/ku6k9w3
Agreed Lance that the Dems don't have the excuse or the support Now to go Single Payer. HOWEVER if they can make the multiple payer system as unworkable as possible while offering discounts to those who go single payer (penalty tax instead of expensive premium and no pre-existing conditions) they have moved the goal posts significantly closer to the Single Payer they so lovingly embrace.
Joey, I couldn't agree with you more that $634 mil is just a start and they're going to burn through/steal lots more. I was simply noting the enormity of the e-Health boondoggle -- a billion dollars just for Ontario and nothing to show for it.
While we're at it, what possible justification can the Obamacare effort have for not trying a limited rollout in just a few states or a couple of area codes at first? Every project I've ever been involved in or just been able to observe has done something like that.
Obama is a total f*** up. Total. It's utterly un-be-lie-va-ble that the POTUS is a stupid, narcissistic numbskull who turns everything he touches to cinders.
I always thought Americans were smart, savvy, and can-do. Their President is a can't-do moron. But his handlers knew this all along and the chaos Zero's wrought is on-target. Confusion is rampant stateside and that's what the Obamanation's puppet masters want.
"I always thought Americans were smart, savvy, and can-do."
Too many have become blinded by the food stamps, free phones mentality, and brainwashed by their socialist teachers. Stalin's goons did their work well.
Not surprising given who the prime contractor is on this gig. Those guys are complete 100% scam artists.
As a commentator pointed out, CGI Group, a Canadian compnay is responsible for setting up the Obamacare website and related software. What no one is talking about , is they are the same software company that designed and setup our former Gun Registry that was supposed to cost 2 million dollars but ended up fleecing us for 2.7 billion.
