About Kate
Why this blog?
Until this moment
I have been forced
to listen while media
and politicians alike
have told me
"what Canadians think".
In all that time they
never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio - "You don't speak for me."

That's terrific. I love the mountain goats even while I don't yet know what they taste like.
Yikes! No fear of heights there!
Talk about exploiting ecological niches! Maybe not much food, but also not much
competition, and no wolves!
These goats impress me more than the vast majority of people I've known, who could never do anything so cool.
Wikipedia says that mountain cats and golden eagles (for the kids) are the most
dangerous predators.
I,m ashamed of you Kate. Turning SDA into an Islamic porn site.
The palms of my hands got clammy just looking at the pictures.
Very spectacular pictures even if some of the subjects are bighorn sheep and not goats at all.....
It is like they can defy gravity the rest of us are bound to.
It helps that their bodies are perfectly flat on one side, but then they can only go one direction on the cliff face.
If they had a mountain goat government that imposed safety boots, safety helmets and outlawed taking chances, mountain goats would cease to exist and the mountains would be the more barren for it.
Evolution is a marvelous force of nature. The adaptations that allow mountain goats to fill this ecological niche are most impressive.
In my mountaineering days I was once led down off a mountain to safety by a mountain goat.
It was the middle of winter. I had completed a solo ascent of a waterfall, and had gotten off route on the descent route. I came over a crest and below me, as though he were waiting for me, was a goat which looked straight into my eyes as if to say, "Follow me." I did. The rock slabs were covered in snow, yet wherever the goat put its hoof through the snow, there was just enough of a hold for my crampons. It was as though he could see through the snow. When, once I thought I'd lost the way, I looked up and the goat was looking back at me, waiting. The goat led me down to a safe area. When he saw I was there, he looked at me again, I said "thank you" to him, and at that point he looked away and headed straight back up the mountain.
He may have saved my life. I could never hurt a mountain goat.
Strangely, when I look at these pictures all I see are true conservatives trying to escape the pink horde.
DrD, that is awe-inspiring! The goat was probably admiring your courage for a human.
Thanks for telling us about your experience!
Black Mamba will be impressed.:)
