Language Commissioner to keep job despite ridiculous Snowbird recommendation;

After an investigation, the language commissioner's office wrote the air force and recommended that 431 Squadron's Snowbirds nickname be changed when a new aircraft fleet was purchased for the team, the military documents pointed out. The language watchdog also recommended the RCAF ensure that the next nickname be bilingual.

how many languages can we use to tell the word gestapo feurher aka "language commissioner" to f**k off and die.

But, we have a Conservative Gov to protect is.right?

Well they are the dumb as a bag of hammers group that gave OBamBam the Peace prize because! well just because.

How about "Les Snowbirds" then?
Don't think Les Oiseaux Du Neige does it.

Funny you mention this I could not agree more kate.

I have a story for y'all if you hunt or shoot you will want to know this .

Bass pro shops in Canada informed me that they will no longer be able to stock the gun cleaning product BREAK FREE as the company refused to capitulate to the French language police in Canada by putting it's label in French as well as English so stock up while you can, same goes for the Remington squee-G universal gun cleaning kit. look it up on you tube it's getting amazing reviews by people and we can't have it here in Canada because the language police in quebec insist the instructions be in French as well as English.

So Kate I could not agree more with your title .

GO ALREADY!! I'LL HELP YOU PACK , GTFOH, we don't want you leave vamanose,au-revoir shooo , scram, beat it!! screw quebec they take our money but enforce this kinda crap on us? screw them.

How about the Montreal Alouettes? Montreal Canadiens? Change their names to something bilingual!!!

You will never convince me that the Harper party is conservative.

I got it! The Flying Frogs.

How about ... The Mange Le Merde Birds you cultural bigot.

Yep,have to agree!

It's about time we had a government that quit the ridiculous pandering to Quebec. In the late 1960's,my Uncle, a government employee, told me that many departments had surpassed the 25% Francophone level, some had well over that quota, but that was acceptable. If it was under 25%,they slanted all their hiring toward FF's until the target was attained.

In the CAF today, to advance over the rank of Major, an officer must speak fluent French or his career is permanently stalled. We no longer go with the best in the CAF, but with the most PC.

Rwanda is imho,a result of that policy.

Now, while we're on the subject of the Snowbirds, some of the best flyers in the world given the oldest equipment in the world, how about replacing those 1960's vintage trainers and giving them the planes they deserve to have.

Hey Kate,

I think this sort of bilingual naming is already in place in the Canadian Forces --as witnessed by the ridiculous names (and acronyms) for vehicles that have to work in both languages. So a 2.5 ton truck is a MLVW: (medium logistics vehicle, wheeled), etc.

What about 425 Alouette Squadron? Not easy to translate and their motto is in French, where most other squadron mottos are in Latin, ie 'Promptus ad vindictum' 'Ducimus' etc...

You'll notice that the PostMedia story can't even bring themselves to use the term Royal Canadian Air Force, which is again the correct name, but only refers to the CAF or Canadian Armed Forces.

Here's an English nickname for Quebec, "not our problem anymore". Telling them to go away and firing every civil servent who spents more then 50% of their work day sucking up to Quebec would also go a long way toward balancing the budget and paying off the national debt.

Possibly related ....

Can't understand how the attitude generates hostility!

A Montreal woman who moved to Manor SK got an earful from the volunteer fire chief she woke up ... She called 911 to complain about her neighbor's bonfire.

Moves to a town of 250 ... acts like a d----e and gets told off ... now complaining about getting told off.

Cry me a river.

The Official Languages Commissioner should not lose her job, the position itself needs to be eliminated.

Job ? That's a job ? What are the qualifications for this job anyway ? Do Jackboots qualify for tax exemption ? Job productivity would be what ? Employee job satisfaction would be measured how ? Are laxatives standard issue so we can start the day with a clear mind ? Do employees have a transfer agreement with the CBC ? Can one speak english or french at the annual christmas party ?
These are just some of the questions I would ask at the "job" interview. Should impress them, as being a professional busybody is paramount.

What is the point of keeping Quebec? Seriously.

If the Harper Conservative government sent all the federal servants layoff notices and only re-hired the ones doing essential or worthwhile work, the budget would be instantly balanced and the national debt retired in a generation.

But the Timid Conservatives are not all that bold, nor all that conservative.

If the truth be known, the Harper government only has control of about 2 to 5 percent of the federal government.

The vast majority of the federal government is run by an entrenched bureaucracy, a self-appointed elite, who believe they have a divine right to rule over the serfs.

If Quebec left , who would care? I mean really. They are the millstone of Canada. Around its waist. Sinking not only our credibility, future or growth. It acts as a vacuum sucking the money from every province of he Dominion, while being a bastion of the Mob.

with french in my heritage I know I will never be perfect!!!!

Will the Language gestapo seriously go after any Quebec based company/organization on the complaint of an Anglo-Canadian? I doubt it. After 42 years someone finally has a problem? sounds like that idiot who worked at the Human Rights commission and regularly filed claims and collected on behalf of "wronged" parties. his name escapes me but not the disgust I still feel at his actions (and that of the compliant HRC).

It's the Army way to name things. For example, the Enfield rifle of WW1 was the "Rifle, No 1, Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield". Though the name for the Deuce-and-half should be "Vehicle, Logistics, Medium, Wheeled".

Cheers

Most Conservatives forget this, Larry and some Conservatives have 'forgotten' recently because the new batch of bureaucrats (hired after the first Conservative win) are former Conservative minded people who have bellied up to the trough and are now snorting with the same self serving appreciation for 'programs' and writing new red tape 'rules for the rest' etc. etc..

Good catch Larry. Thanks for shedding some sunlight on the facts.
