Via Hot Air:
Did the White House just blink on the debt-ceiling fight? After weeks of insisting it won't negotiate on either the budget or the debt ceiling, a top White House adviser said this morning that Barack Obama would sign a short-term lift in the latter to gain more time for a longer-term agreement.
Needless to say, I'll believe it when I see it.
It should be noted that the Democrats had two other options instead going head to head against the House of Representatives and playing their part in the shutdown.
- They could have passed a budget
- They could have paid their bills.
The first would have necessitated negotiations with Congress and highlighted the shortcomings of the Democratic spending machine. The latter would have taken away obama-phones.
Can't have that, can we?

Gallup's recent poll numbers are forcing the Spite House's hands. Plus word's filtering out to the sheeple about the WWII vets, NPS shenanigans..
Oh no, can't take away the obamaphones from the free stuff army. They might not vote ten times each for the Demonrats.
Yeah well, coupla days past a poll indicated the "won"'s approval rating had dropped to 41%........
"spite house" ?......that'll leave a mark....
Obama is a serial liar. He is saying: "Give me what I want now, I I'll deal later". - again.
My word, every bankster-controlled newspaper is pulling out all the stops, frightening the gullible with the debt ceiling. Default will bring the global banking system to its knees, we keep hearing. The federal government owes 23 times what Lehman owed when it failed, the National Post screams. Every bank in the civilized world will be wiped out several times over.
If that's even close to being true, it's just possible the Lord has finally delivered the banksters into the hands of his people. I'm sure the banksters had expected the Tea Party leaders to be interned by now, along with the Golden Dawn. As it is, they're clearly starting to fear that they will be the ones stuck with nothing to pay unpayable debts but stacks of worthless paper, and the ones being picked up in the middle of the night and their passports shredded.
(No, they're not fleeing, yet. It's possible there's nowhere in the civilized world for them to go.)
Pray for the good men in the United States Congress. They may yet go down in history as the men who vanquished the global monopoly of credit.
"Spite House" That was good, and so accurate. Harry Reid is a weasel.
Aren't they all?
Ah, yes. Here we go. Straight from the mouth of the beast:

(Catastrophe only for those who reap where they never sowed.)

There's another view on this --
As I have argued before, the president has the constitutional authority to lift the debt ceiling on his own. If Congress won’t vote to do this, then it will have commanded him to spend vast sums on valued programs, but not given him enough money to do so. Where the president is given conflicting commands, he can use his discretion to resolve the conflict, bolstered here by his inherent administrative powers and his emergency powers to protect the nation, both sanctioned by constitutional tradition. Since a default on public debt would result in an economic catastrophe, he can borrow with or without Congress behind him.
And if this comes to pass, Congress will have little recourse.
