Coyote has an excellent summary. Spending more money to fence off open spaces than it costs to leave them open.

A vindictive White House picking on WW2 Vets?

Not going to play well in real America, but I bet the New York Times is quite pleased.

Words cannot be found to express the loathsomeness of the present US president. Perhaps these
confrontations will trigger an insurrection; an insurrection is much needed. Let us pray for our
American friends - at least they have plenty of ammo!

So... some parks are more equal than others? Does he have this park ranger's name? What's the source? Where is it written that monuments are treated differently? All this must exist some place, or else it's just "steveworks4you" twittering bullsh!t.

A desperate attempt on the part of the radical right minority to paint everybody else but themselves as responsible for this boondoggle.

John "A desperate attempt on the part of the radical right minority to paint everybody else but themselves as responsible for this boondoggle."

In a Democracy, I thought Parliament or its equivalent passed laws and the administration administered. Congress is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. It certainly should not come as a shock to those who elected them. Obama has never shown an inclination to compromise.

John,

I wonder why it is, when a leftard like you passes a certain point in your pathetic lunacy, that I find it amusing.

My rational mind knows I should be feeling pity, perhaps evan sadness that there are sentient beings on this planet who can not only have such thought patterns but actually espouse them without being locked up as some sort of psychopath, but after a certain point all I can do is close my eyes and hear "no, the parrot's not dead, he's just resting..."

Do not feed the troll.
Big Sis listed veterans as potential terrorists. How much more dangerous must WWII vets be?

All Congress needs to do is draw a "Redline". LOL.

>

Obama needs to send in a SWAT sniper team to clear those WW2 "terrorists" from their memorial.

Still waiting on verification that the White House ordered this. Anyone? Anyone?

And no. Sorry guys. This shutdown is not due to the president's unwillingness to bargain. The ACA is law. It was passed by a previous Congress and Senate, signed by the president into law, and upheld by the Supreme Court. It's life. Move on and pay your bills.

You guys won't see this because you are the far right, and to you, anything looks like communism. And the awesome thing is that this is why you, and they, will most likely fail. They shoulda listened to Rove on this one. He might be a rat f#cker, but he's a smart rat f#cker.

[ At the World War II Memorial on The Mall in Washington, where veterans have been staging protests to keep it open, Washington Examiner's Charlie Spiering reports that at least seven officials were dispatched Wednesday morning to set up a ring of barricades to block tourists from the memorial. That is two more security officials than the State Department had in Benghazi a year ago on the night of the terrorist attack that killed four, including the U.S. ambassador.]

As the headline in the National Post says: ‘Life without nanny.'

Sound like a good thing to me.

John, Obamacare wasn't 'upheld by the Supreme Court'. The fines for not complying were upheld as a tax.

There is no law that can't be changed, ref: business mandates and exemptions for the politicos that all happened _after_ it was signed.

I snagged an unauthorized recording from a university lecture yesterday.. one of those big undergrad politics courses that's supposed to teach the basics. The commie bitch prof was going ballistic. It's getting posted when the time is right.

I'm sure that, like me, most of the people here believe they know better how to spend their hard-earned money than some stranger thousands of miles away.

Sure there are things we agree can be done better by pooling our money ... such as road construction, police, the military and looking after those who are unable (as opposed to unwilling) to look after themselves.

Note of caution to our Saskatchewan friends. Whenever there's a large pool of money, that's where the thieves congregate.

Beware of those who tell you there's a problem to be solved and they are the only ones to solve it. Those slimeballs will rob you blind.

But all of Obama's chefs, dog-walkers, caddies and bootlickers were all deemed "essential government workers".

"We stormed the fortified beaches of Normandy. Did you really think a temporary fence and a sign would stop us?"

Closing a sidewalk is the height of vindictiveness. Probably nary an essential person in the food chain that was involved in this petty act has ever served.

Obama as usual taking out his anger on Americans while imitating hamlet.
This is all an Obama show to rile folks up. Trayvon 2.

I've been to the WWII memorial in D.C. It's not a building, it's an open area. You walk around it. There's nothing to lock up at night. To actually go and put barricades up is an intentional act; it's not like they simply didn't open locked doors as usual. Instead somebody made a determined decision to go find barricades, bring them to the site, and make up a new, specific sign on it to deny access.

This has cry-baby Obama's fingerprints all over it.

Loved the comment by the WWII vet in the wheelchair:

"We have less brains now in Washington than since we became a nation."

Perfect....!

You can say your sorry now john

The White House and the Department of the Interior rejected a request from Rep. Steven Palazzo’s office to have World War II veterans visit the World War II memorial in Washington, the Mississippi Republican told The Daily Caller Tuesday.

I see politicians once again covering themselves in glory by being spiteful and childish. I think that there will be a silver lining - a critical mass of people realizing that politicians and the civil service are working entirely for their own interests and they have no shame or common sense restraint when it comes flaunting their power over citizens.

If a Neo-con is a liberal mugged by reality, then perhaps the new political wave will neo-libertarians - Independents who have been mugged by Big Government. There is of course no hope for partisans.

Scar, he's never shown any ability to legislate either. He's passed precisely one piece of legislation since 2008, his health care reform act. But it was Nancy Pelosi and company who wrote it; Obama was irrelevant to the actual drafting.

As one spokesman for the veteran's group said:
“We have people here that are 80 and 90 years old and they closed down all the bathrooms?” said Tony Nussbaum, a 25-year veteran of the Air Force from Iowa and a leader of the state’s Hero Flight group. “I’m about to just start pissing on the trees.” …

I think that much more pissing on trees is in order.

Oh .... and dumbass john .... piss on you.

Hussien Obama, muslime terrorist enabler perfecting his rabble rousing
instincts upon the US voter! Da getto a comin fo whity!

Hey homeland security told us these guys would be trouble.

Wish I'd been there to join in.

Still waiting for that verification that Obama said "no". Any links that are "Bills Guns and Strong Opinions Blog"?

Because this sounds a lot like another Republican attempt to make people think that this is about veterans being abused, or Democrats not showing up to the table.

Bottom line... Republicans are losing this fight, but the only real losers are the American people, veterans included. You'd just better hope that Al Quada doesn't take a shot, what with 70% of intelligence civilian employees furlonged. (What was that you guys said about those 800,000 being useless?)

I believe the word you were searching for is 'furloughed':

fur·lough noun \ˈfər-(ˌ)lō\
: a period of time when a soldier is allowed to leave the place where he or she is stationed

Thus if the intelligence community you refer to is civilian;

then they certainly don't get furloughed.

fur·long noun \ˈfər-ˌlȯŋ\
: a unit of distance equal to 220 yards (about 201.2 meters) or 1/8 of a mile

most often associated with horse racing; but in your case most associated with horsesh*t...

Cheers

Better treatment would have been nice, but at least these vets got a trophy out of the deal:

http://twitchy.com/2013/10/02/youll-love-the-trophy-world-war-ii-vets-took-home-from-the-government-shutdown-blockade-pic/

"Spokesman for NPS says they were told to barricade the #WWII Memorial by the White House OMB . . . The OMB, or Office of Management and Budget is part of the executive branch and reports directly to President Obama." http://twitchy.com/2013/10/02/barry-cades-confirmed-park-service-says-obama-admin-ordered-closure-of-world-war-ii-memorial/

The WWI memorial was allowed to stay open. The less visited and less popular memorials were also allowed to stay open, and were not "barry-caded;" only the most popular sites were chosen by a spiteful regime that wanted this shutdown to hurt. Playing politics with 90-year-old veterans: so vindictive.

The Republicans offered to fund the parks; this offer was not accepted. The monuments that did not require supervision by federal employess were allowed to stay open in '96.

Obama owns this nasty political maneuver.

"Mr. Obama, tear down those Barry-cades!" http://twitchy.com/2013/10/02/we-can-see-2014-from-the-barry-cades-new-symbol-of-obamas-presidency-photoshops/

@ John. Here you go. It took me 10 seconds to find this story. It was in yesterday's SDA material as well. Guess you are a typical liberal/socialist troll that only reads the CBC et al.

http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/01/obama-admin-knew-about-wwii-veterans-request-and-rejected-it/

Actually since you won't likely read the article - just read the headline.

Your ignorance of the evil nature of liberals/socialists is frightening.

Regarding closing any National Parks in the US. The question is, Why? If you close down the interpretive centre and gift shop so what. People still have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery etc. Having one person at the gate taking the entrance fee would be enough. Along with a sign explaining using the park at this time is at your own risk.

Certainly the daily fee would pay for the employee to man the booth (if the park has one). Regarding the WW2 Memorial. Apparently there is no fee as - like the Vietnam Memorial or MLK Memorial it's in an open space - open to viewing at any time of the day, every day of the year.

By the way John - these closures are all on Obama and nobody else as he continues to act the the petulant child he has always been. He is the worst President in US history and his actions over the past few days prove he does not care about his country....just his own satisfaction.

Hey C'mon, John is quite content, with Generalissimo, El Grande Supremo Dictator El OBarryo!

All Hail El Presidente! Negotiating is for sissies!.

When does his personal military come in and force the GOP, at gunpoint, to give up? In the name of 'democracy'................

So how is it a crisis when the government is forced to do what millions on a limited budget do everyday?

The pres and his democrat party are unwilling to delay implementation of a mandatory government run health insurance plan. Ironically, by granting so many exemptions, is exactly what he's done for many in both houses, and himself..

The argument that Obama was elected on a mandate to implement his health insurance plan is only partially right, he campaigned on many other things. The kicker is that those republican's that got elected, campaigned on a mandate to scrap same...albeit without offering a free phone, having the IRS spy on conservative groups, or having to lie about what happened in Bengazi...but at this point what difference does this make to the extreme left wing minority bigots.

Want to know what the lib-left really fears? Not having this resolved when the deadline passes to increase the debt limit.

If it is not clearly obvious at this point to our friends to the south that Obama is the most divisive President the country has *ever* seen, then there truly is no hope for the future of the USA.

Every FOOL that voted for Obama should be *forced* to use government run healthcare, including all of Hollywood, all of New York including Bloomberg himself, and every other idiot that thought Obama was wonderful.

Never in my lifetime did I think I would witness the spectacle where a president would so eagerly and with such cunning wants to destroy the very country he took an oath to protect.

Thank God the Republicans are finally growing a pair, even if it is currently a rather small pair...

Revealing photos contrasting the sparsely-visited WW1 memorial to the popular WW2 one:
http://ace.mu.nu/archives/343852.php

The twitter comments refered to a suggestion that police would arrest vets breaking into war memorials.

That seems far-fetched, but anything's possible.

It could easily serve as the country's last straw.

Read on twitter ..."More guards at memorial than at Benghazi" ....
